They are coming off a five day break. It will prove something just not a lot. Agree to disagree.
5 day breaks don’t mean anything

Consecutive 5 day breaks do

10 day breaks are harder to manage than 5 day breaks

Bit like horseracing , athletes tend to go well on quick back up but you can’t do it too often

Really good video here I suggest everyone watch where David King goes through the last 2 minutes of the game and the actions by Nicks and Dawson in that period.

Thanks for link. Dawson already showing signs of being a great long term leader from many perspectives and an inspired choice as a captain, even if many deemed it premature after only joining the club a year ago. In hindsight, the fact he was upgraded to the leadership group mid last year (has the club ever done this before?) was probably the tell tale sign right then that Nicks was seriouly considering upgrading him to captain this year. And well done to ex-Pres Sloane for his multi year best performances currently. Now he can be a bit part of the midfield and is showing great signs and lifting / inspiring the team at crucial times.

Dawson - great player relationships/connection, on field leadership and coaching (as per footage) and ability to dominate a game. Could end up with a Brownlow at some point, ideally over the next couple of years whilst lifting the premiership cup :)

Maybe if Negative Nelly could give it a
rest it'd be a happier place around here. The last time you seemed happy with anything crows related was like the Bay 119 project back in like 2007

It's almost like we've delivered a further 15 years of continuous failure since then, and in that time the club has repeatedly shit on its 'pathetic' fans who should 'go and support another club'. I'm glad your memory stretches far enough to remember that I was a kid that loved the club enough to organise cheersquads in my own time- and that was what we got in return.

Reality doesn't alter itself to fit your preferred outlook.

Sure it can happen and be successful, I never said it couldn't, I'd never do it though and I don't think you need to, to find a decent defender.

Its alot easier to develop a defender through other channels than any other position, with perhaps the exception of ruck.

I'd spend that pick differently and I hope we never do it again.
If the AFL hadn't once again intervened to stuff is up giving the GCSuns the priority pick expressly so they could pick up the 2 childhood busom buddies Rowell and Anderson keep them together for retention purposes things would have looked a lot different I suspect.

I'd be very confident Noah Anderson would have been an Adelaide Crow for 2 years at least because it was known a long way out the Dees were all over Jackson for their pick.

If that eventuated we'd never have traded out pick to GWS who were hot on Lachie Ash. The downside to that is it's unlikely Luke Pedlar would have been a Crow.

Next time can you write a story involving dragons?

The biggest positive of the season for me has been the development of Rachele. There was a real possibility he would have second year blues and development would stagnate.

Instead he has come out and it's basically our starting ruck-rover getting a lot of ball out in open space because of his speed.
Once he learns how to get 30D regularly (probably give him 20-30 games) and coaches drum into him to lower his eyes and look side to side for the best option he is going to be an absolute jet.
Think Gary Ablett junior.

Yep, i've said it on repeat this year. All that time we were worried about not spending a top 5 pick on a midfielder during the rebuild. Turn's out we did!

And he's gonna be AWESOME!

BTW, I love the GAJ compo. Spot on. Can't believe I didn't see that before!

There's so many similarities. Elite goal sense, great agility, strong through the hips, break away pace, general football IQ, obviously hates losing as you can see it on his general demeanour.

Gary junior in mind is basically the best I have ever seen so it's probably not a fair comparison, but it's all there.
Does he have a Joel Corey, Jimmy Bartel, Joel Selwood around to help him is the question.

Do clubs get forewarned when umpires are going to adjust their interpretation of rules?

Eg the no holding the ball frees yesterday

Seemed that the Hawks loaded numbers around the stoppages. Very congested. Lots of repeat ball ups. The rule adjustment suited what they were trying to do.

FWIW I like the principle of protecting the ball winner and giving more time & leeway to the guy who's actually winning the footy. I could care less about rewarding the tackler in congested situations. Open field tackles a different story.

However it made for a worse game to watch. Less flow, slowed it down. Hot on htb frees opens things up even if it's a raw deal to the ball winner

Not quite sure where I sit on it overall because if they err towards rewarding the tackler then being second to the ball will become a genuine tactic.

Peak Gary Ablett Jnr was as good a football talent as I've ever seen up close. Actually, no, him and Andrew McLeod we're the 2 most talented footballers I ever saw up close.

They were so good they still beat taggers when they were allowed to hold at damn near every stoppage.

Agreed that's an unfair thing to put onto Josh at this point in his career. But he has the best set of tangible's and intangible's of any draftee we've taken since Danger IMO.

Do you mean Rachele? Or Dawson? Or likely Pedlar in time? All looking awesome and all looking likely midfielders (2 of 3 are already)

Has Hamish and Reidy potentially already delivered us the best midfield in the competition over coming years? ;-)

Yep, it’s plain and simple for all to see - no one eyed glasses required

Rachele = GAJ
Dawson = Pendles
Pedlar = combination of Hodge and Oliver

Rachele has started his career in a far superior manner to little Gaz who was underwhelming and overweight in his first couple of years. Did the occasional freaky HFF thing but without a doubt Rachele is playing at a level far in excess of GAJ first couple of years. If he can get to 75% of the little masters talents then happy days and big cheque books required

Classy: Hawk's ANZAC jersey. They certainly brought the ANZAC spirit.

So how come Reeves gets a free kick for smashing a shoulder into the chest of an opposition player but McAdam gets 3 weeks?

If Essendon beat Collingwood by a couple of goals or more* tomorrow we will be a top 4 side and Collingwood won't be (asssuming Melbourne beat Richmond tonight) ahead of next week's game.

*One goal if Essendon score 64 points, or any margin if Essendon score 102 points.

Settle down champ....

Maybe cool the jets a tad...

Good

Soligo

I was wrong for saying that he should have been dropped after last weeks game, His game yesterday was one of those games that I've all be waiting for where one of our young midfielders really puts a stamp on a game. 25 touches, 17 of those being kicks, 636 metres gained. IMO his best game for the club.

Sloane

Was absolutely massive for us in the 2nd half and pretty much won us the game in the last quarter.

Grinding out a win in Tassie

Other years we'd lose that game, The Hawks threw everything at us and to fight back like that to pinch the game was very un-Crows like.

Bad

The standard of the game

Talk about a snooze fest. We often struggled to move the ball with any real system and our forward 50 entries were really ugly. This one wouldn't be a game for the highlight reel.

Ugly

The Crowd

10,119 in 21 degree weather would be a concern for the AFL.

It's hard to know whether it's the combination of Hawthorn doing poorly and a growing disconnect between Tassie AFL fans and the Victorian sides due to them potentially getting their own team, but the AFL would have to be worried about only getting 10k to a game when the conditions were absolutely perfect (21 degrees).
