Watched that vision on First Crack, pretty impressive leadership by Dawson and ballsy coaching by Nicks.
Yes that was excellent, now we just need to drill into our players not to do what Soligo did unless there's really no option. Love Soligos game yesterday but he & all the guys need to learn from that. We probably got a little lucky. The Milera tackle late whilst the ump called it correctly it's a line ball one they may pay at times.

I don’t think Soligo had a choice, didn’t look like he did. We really should have been able to kill that contest, we allowed defenders to take way too many marks. We’ve got 3 big blokes up there FFS. That’s why a guy like Gollant has benefit as he flies at everything.

Yeah I'd need to see the whole ground to know, it could be he didn't have a choice and that our other players didn't work hard enough to provide him an easy uncontested kick. I might flick the replay on later & see if I can spot anything. Doesn't matter really, we got the win and if there's something that wasn't done right Nicks & co will definitely educate it.

I do like Gollants effort too. Just a bit unlucky down the pecking order at the moment but his flying at contests and pressure at ground level is good at AFL.

I'll add a couple to the GOOD from yesterday:

  • First win in 18 years against Hawks down in Tassie I read. (Not sure how many times we've actually played?)
  • 4 wins in a row isn't anything to be mocked either even if the last one wasn't pretty. Not an easy comp to win 4 in a row so thats tick, first time since 2019 we've done it.

On hating Hawthorn, does anyone else remember a Friday or Saturday night game at the MCG circa 2015 to 2017 ish where the #freekickhawthorn was worse than the 2012 Preliminary Final?

Or have i imagined this?
2016. We lost from two goals clear with like two minutes left I think.

The Crowd

10,119 in 21 degree weather would be a concern for the AFL.

It's hard to know whether it's the combination of Hawthorn doing poorly and a growing disconnect between Tassie AFL fans and the Victorian sides due to them potentially getting their own team, but the AFL would have to be worried about only getting 10k to a game when the conditions were absolutely perfect (21 degrees).
Does make you think about the "stand-alone" success of a Tassie AFL team .....people won't travel North-South

The AFL will end up, financially propping up 3 teams for the next 25 years .....Tassie, likely forever, as the cost of running an AFL team escalates

That free to Fog in the 3rd decided the match. Was technically there but soft. I wouldn't have paid it and don't want it to be paid in games going forward.
Soft my ass the campaigner intentionally tripped him...free kick every time.

Another thing I noticed ..... on several occasions - at least twice - but could have been more, a Crow, running free from the centre, would kick it low to a leading forward - either Fogerty or Walker, only to have it chopped out by a Hawthorn defender unexpectedly arriving in no-man's land ten to fifteen in front of the leading player. Because the kick was a low dart aimed at the chest of the leading forward, it was low enough for the interception. My memory says Rachele but it might have been him and another. I reckon that was a conscious coaching decision - and it worked well. Just one of the many good plans made by Mitchell in preparation for the game against us.

Yeah that was a shocker but from memory Brodie Smith lost us the game with a botched 15m pass that missed Seedsman at a crunch time

I was at both.
Also had the displeasure of the 07 Elim

I've stopped going to interstate games now.
I was at the 09 semi. And that free kick was right in front of me. Bloody Rutten

Good

Soligo

I was wrong for saying that he should have been dropped after last weeks game, His game yesterday was one of those games that I've all be waiting for where one of our young midfielders really puts a stamp on a game. 25 touches, 17 of those being kicks, 636 metres gained. IMO his best game for the club.

Sloane

Was absolutely massive for us in the 2nd half and pretty much won us the game in the last quarter.

Grinding out a win in Tassie

Other years we'd lose that game, The Hawks threw everything at us and to fight back like that to pinch the game was very un-Crows like.

Bad

The standard of the game

Talk about a snooze fest. We often struggled to move the ball with any real system and our forward 50 entries were really ugly. This one wouldn't be a game for the highlight reel.

Should have been at Norwood

Soligo could have had 2 goals as well, he missed an easy set shot and gave one to Walker in the square. Clearly Mitchell went into the game with a plan to stop our run by pushing numbers back and congesting the contest, they even scored a few goals on the quick counter but this is a very taxing game plan to play which is why most clubs don't play this style anymore. Anyway, we found a way to win with our opposition throwing another game plan against us.

Looked to me like he had a free Crow 20-25m away at his 10 o'clock, just outside the square.
He could also have used up a few more seconds. No doubt Nicks will have a word to him about it.

Ended well.

Agree! Disappointing we couldn’t cause a spillage and ball up in our F50

I remember us giving away a free, and Jacobs just threw it back instantly, not giving his team mates time to set up defensive positions, conceding a quick goal.
