Good Friday v Carlton, "Lock it in"

...well you can take it that way I suppose...I was thinking more NMFC V * in the meme.
Sorry but the more I read, the more I see Good Friday being a Blockbuster game for Blockbuster clubs only.
So depending on when Good Friday falls it will be between Carlton,Collingwood,*,Richmond & Hawthorn.

No smaller clubs will be given a chance to take the date and develop it into a big game,The AFL will want a sell out straight away.

Breathe people.

It's Jon Ralph, the biggest caveman in a bunch of neanderthals.

Seriously, the blokes got no ****ing idea.

Can't see Essendon getting it

If they do, it will demonstrate that Gilligan is soft on cheating. He oversaw the investigation into Melbourne tanking and the findings of that were risible - no evidence of tanking but we will be suspending individuals for... ummmmm... look over there, a dog sniffing another dog's butt.

"But as much as the AFL wants to help develop marquee games for struggling clubs, it also believes maximising revenue through blockbusters will allow it to raise money to distribute across the 18 teams."

The big clubs will get it and equalisation will continue to be viewed as charity.

We will get this match. But Carlton are no locks, there's a reason why Essendon name has been brought up, it's because North vs Essendon always gets a big crowd.

The Carlton option is the best but it would be appropriate to play the vile fart of satan on Good Friday

The missing link here, and the one that the AFL has consistently overlooked or dismissed, is the notion that a 'blockbuster' is a somewhat self-fulfilling phenomenon. Is ANZAC Day the day it is because of Collingwood/Essendon, or does it have it's own independent cachet that in turn further enhances the reputation of those teams?

The AFL are operating on the notion of "popularity = best", and this becomes self fulfilling. Like English as the dominant language in the world. People get on board because it's the most broadly spoken, but it doesn't make English a better language; just increasingly popular because it's popular.

Could the idea of North being involved help elevate and shift thinking about the club itself, because it is involved in a 'blockbuster' (heavily sanctioned and promoted event)? If successful, it ends up reducing the need for equalisation support and may not cost the AFL. It may even enhance TV appeal due to the family/smaller/boutique club angle? Could it be that the event may be seen as just as popular, or popular in a different way, because the game doesn't involve the 'big clubs'? It may not garner quite the same crowd sizes, but that doesn't mean it won't gain considerable patronage at the ground, on the day from both clubs' supporters and many neutrals.

Just give it to * and Collingwood. There are two teams that really need a blockbuster.

Yeah, really feel for them having to play 4:40 on a Sunday against GWS and Gold Coast.

I think we will get it. Crowds are down, punters are disillusioned. They can't just destroy small clubs and think handing them a few $ is the key to survival.

Carlton v Richmond Thursday night.

North v Hawks/Dogs Friday

Hey fellas, as much as you hate us, none at the Essendon board want it. We think it should be you guys vs the scum/dogs. Hopefully common sense prevails and you get it.

I would personally prefer to play Carlton than the dogs. In saying that I have no doubt that if both north and the dogs went to the supporters in the lead up to the game and said the onus is on us to draw a big crowd to prove the justification of giving us good Friday I'd expect 45,000 plus at Etihad. If we cant produce that neither club deserves it!

In our language, your club is "the scum", remember to do as the romans do

In my language, Carlton are the scum, remember to be yourself no matter the crowd you're in ;).

The AFL would rather have the "smaller" clubs in their pocket than give them any chance to build a healthy independance. Despite the rhetoric that comes out.

We may get a token Good Friday appearance in 2015. I bet we don't get it in 2016.

If we get the game I'll most likely stay at home, record it on Foxtel and watch it on Saturday. As a member North already have my money so no need to go except to barrack for them but 1 game shouldn't matter.......
