Is FTA f@ck they're average, or finalists they aren't?Not our fault the AFL and Channel 7 rate the Blues as the most valuable FTA club in the competition (oh wait, it is )

People can moan all they like, but the fact is that the "Big 4" Melbourne clubs have the largest following/memberships, with the exception of West Coast.
The AFL will always want to kick the season off with a big game, under the lights, at the MCG. Collingwood and Essendon have Anzac Day, so it's natural and understandable to give Carlton and Richmond the opening fixture.
AFL finally come around to their senses.
Weather aside. Should be a packed 85 K crowd for this round 1 blockbuster between two of Victoria's most successful and loved power house clubs
I can't help you if you think two AFL teams playing in front of 70k at the MCG is boring. It's also very boring, which is why everyone other than Tigers and Blues supporters dislike it.

We won’t be calling it the Q-Clash anymore, the Berry Bash seems more appropriate nowExtended pre-season I guess.
Call me when the real thing starts (and by that I mean the Sydney Darby or QClash).
Is he trying to jerk himself to a boner? The AFL knows what the fans want.
Good to see you're still watching footy in September.
Great news for Richmond supporters.
Lucky pricks.
Did Carlton even show up for the 2022 season?Hopefully Richmond show up for Round 1 next season
Fortunate then that there are enough Carlton and Richmond supporters to make it one of the most watched games of the year. It's also very boring, which is why everyone other than Tigers and Blues supporters dislike it.
Footy followers would turn their tv's on to watch freshly coated paint dry at the MCG if that was scheduled for the opening event of the footy season.Fortunate then that there are enough Carlton and Richmond supporters to make it one of the most watched games of the year.
I agree with this about same two teams for opening match, Easter Monday, Anzac Day and Queen's Birthday. It is boring, when it is the same two teams in the same season opener constantly.

We need to mix it up. Love it to be more random like it used to be as a little kid following the sport. These clubs tend to draw big crowds whether it public holiday or not so I'd rather mix it up and see teams that might normally draw only 40,000 be able to have more on a public holiday. Having said that, next season I do not mind it being Carlton and Richmond as first time it decades I geniunely feel both sets of fans have expectations of being premierships contenders so it will be a lot more interesting than many other times in recent decades where only one or neither team is expected to be in the mix.
Exactly.I'd be happy to see Richmond v Blues as the season opener from time to time, just not every year.
Keep it as the back up and give the 2 grand finalists the choice if they want to play in the opening game or not, as someone else mentioned its just another game, our crowds wont be hugely different if we play the opening game or not.I'd be happy to see Richmond v Blues as the season opener from time to time, just not every year.
