Review Good vs Carlton

Watch the last 2 mins if you want to be really angry. Carlton player deliberate punches ball over the boundary line = free kick every other game

Then in the dying minute, as already mentioned, Izak is completely dumped off the ball = if a Carlton forward or P.Cripps it's a free kick

Terrible umpiring
With the deliberate - it was a punch in a marking contest so is allowed.

Waching it live (haven't seen the replay) I thought the marking contest was 'over' then the ball was punched away.

We had a similar one paid against us at home awhile back.

One of the big positives for me was that we not only used the right players in the midfield, but we rotated at centre bounce much more. Carlton got this wrong in my view, and it may have been a contributing factor to our win.

For the whole game, there was a total of 33 centre bounces. O'Brien took 29 and Gollant 4. Soligo (22) and Rankine (20) are our most damaging ball users right now, and they attended the most, which is something we've wanted for a while. Crouch (18), Dawson (16), Laird (16), Berry (5) and Rachele (2) made up the rest.
Comparatively, Carlton had three separate mids attend more than Soligo - Cripps (27), Hewett (25) and Walsh (23). The rest were Carroll (9), Kennedy (9), Hollands (5) and Durdin (1). They didn't really manage their players as well as we did.

As at this morning, we've played the bottom 5 of the top 8.
Next week we play the team sitting in 9th.
The week after that its North, that's our first genuinely easier one.
Then after that its Port (currently top 8).

In 3 weeks time we'll have played 7 of the top 9 (as it sits).

In the couple of weeks after that we get a couple of the lower teams but mixed in we also get Bris and Collingwood who would be by far the best teams out of the top 8 at the moment.

The second half of the year will/should be far easier than the first half the way things are shaping up.

Some of his games as a mid in 2021 were good (34 and 2 in the win over Melbourne and 38 and 2 against North were both pretty good), but some of the big contenders would round 20, 2022 (vs Carlton) and round 5, 2023 (vs Carlton).

He does seem to have his favourite targets.
I really like the role he has now, as another poster pointed out he had and does have brain fades, but his touches seem to be very effective atm.

Other way round. Crouch’ bump was worse than Butters. I’d imagine Crouch gets 1-2 weeks and butters gets off.

Also, Dawson will get one week
I just rewatched them ... Matt's was more front on than I saw it real time.

Butters just as bad.

Might both be in for a week off.

Just got back from fishing trip (Yorkes beach --- salmon, yellowfin, BIG mullet galore!) and GOOD GRIEF I am 24 pages behind  . 7 hours' sleep in 2 nights, so Ill probably be more obtuse/silly than usual, OR fall asleep while typing.
Apologies in advance.
At 3/4 time, 75-75, I said to my mates that if we lose it, it'll be because of Smith :poov1:, Laird and McHenry.

If we win it, somehow, it'll be the kids that win it for us (they had certainly stood up until then).

Great come-from-behind win, very un-Crows-like, YAHOO!!
The kids did it for us --- Rankine, Rachele, Soligo, Michalanney, Nankervis, Cook + some vintage Tex.
Loved it!! :sneaky:

Kane and media already trying to make a distinction between the two...Butters just lucky the contact wasnt more severe.

Can't stand Nicks, the test will be if he sticks with the winning changes, but really a coach dumb enough not to implement them to start with doesn't deserve the job.

I want Nicks gone.
Same here, even after such a good win.
Rachele had to go public two weeks in a row, asking for more mid time, because he could see it was not gonna come from the Coach.
It took Nicks 4 bad weeks/losses to wake up, at least 2 weeks too long.
All we can do now is hope like Hell he doesn't regress to his losing ways.

Our younger players showed barnacles like Smith and Laird how to run-on, play-on and deliver forward.
The transformation was obvious in the first 15 minutes of the game.
Deadset, I could not believe I was watching the same side.

Apparently the coaches aren’t happy with Rob, they want to look at our options and are going to make gradual changes until we get to the prime position.

We will start with:
Week 1 McHenry
Week 2 Hamill
Week 3 Nank
Week 4 Cook
Week 5 ROB

Nothing wrong with gradual changes apparently even if it means losing and blowing finals so everyone should be happy with Nicks in week 5

Should have been doing it at the start of last season bloody joke this football department

I think Butters was worse , Crouch didnt take his eyes off the ball , Butters was lining him up , look at the shoulders in this pic.. Even though it wasn't the best game from Matt ( excluding the last quater ), he has been a mile better than Laird. If he does go , I'm hoping it's only a couple of weeks as we are going to need him in the Showdown.. ( and 3 for Butters would be handy ) :)

I wouldn't look at North in a couple of weeks as being easy. We have a pretty shocking record down there in Tasmania, I think?

Both don’t panic, both try to look for an option, both are quick off initial steps. It’s what our midfield has been severely missing. Kudos to Nicks for seeing it 5 weeks into a season.
When you make elite decisions and have oodles of class at your disposal…

You dont need to panic. The subconscious side of your brain takes over. The rest of your body instantly follows.

He and Tex are the same type. More a traditional CHF who can operate between the arcs.

As you say, Fog is good up the ground. And the goal he set up was smart Footy.

Fog had cement hands though yesterday (ROB's been training him I think)...and having played the game myself, there were times when marks stuck and sometimes they didn't (I often felt my hands felt drier when I had bad days...but I digress). He did manage to stick at it and was still of value in the end. I still like Gollant in the fwd line myself...just adds something for when Tex and Fog struggle.

Woke up feeling too positive this morning so here is a little nitpick to get me back into my melancholy state of mind.

Never in a million years with 10 seconds on the clock with your team in possession should you ever concede a F50 entry.

There, change my mind.
Yep, Was saying it to myself at the game...Keays actually played on as well....didn't use his full 20 seconds...just mind-bogglingly stupid given the clock.

Just watched the last two minutes.

We were an Owies stubbed toe away from being 0-5. Nice watching another teams whipping boy lose a game for them.

*Owies is still ten times the player Murphy is - so we can't be too judgmental.
Missus and whole group of Carlton barrackers were blaming Fantasia for that stuff-up...LOL...
