Pick 3 - North Melbourne - Harry Sheezel - 184cm 77kg - Fwd/Mid

1667724061148.jpeg

STRENGTHS
:
  • Footy IQ
  • Forward Craft
  • Goal Sense
  • Kicking
  • Overhead marking

IMPROVEMENTS:
  • Limited midfield exposure
  • Speed

There are very little concerns or risks associated with a prospect like Sheezel. With a well developed game that highlights his strength there’s little doubt he will be able to impact at the next level, however with AFL players increasingly getting more athletic, Sheezel will have to find ways to impact against that type of opposition which he has at times struggled with this year, occasionally being troubled when met by lockdown focused or faster opposition. *rookie me central

Pick 4 - North Melbourne - George Wardlaw - 182cm 81kg - Mid

1667724210802.png

STRENGTHS
:
  • Clean hands
  • Competitiveness
  • Contested game
  • Power
  • Tackling

IMPROVEMENTS:
  • Endurance
  • Outside game

Wardlaw’s power is truly a weapon around stoppages, outpacing most opponents with just two or three steps to get front position and win the ball from the ruck's hands, and running into open space when it’s there to be taken. Around the ground, Wardlaw’s elite leap allows him to be a strong aerial option despite being short in comparison to others, taking the opportunity to get on to opponents shoulders, or get above packs when it’s there.
His tackling and general defensive work rate is nothing short of remarkable, arguably the best of the draft class in this regard, Wardlaw doesn’t let opponents get free when he gets a hand to them, generally pinning an arm as well to stop opponents handballing it out mid tackle. There have been times over the last two years where Wardlaw has pushed past teammates around stoppages to lay a tackle on an opposition ball carrier, highlighting that drive and competitiveness well. *rookie me central

up next is eth-dog with Essendon

With pick 5, the Saints select: Elijah Tsatas, the Saints had to take this player, his clean hands and contested work is a need for the Moorabbin based club, overall it’s a good pick. He has the potential of a game breaking ability that we need.

Pick 6, Gold Coast: Bailey Humphrey (Gippsland Power, 186 cm/86 kg, Forward/Midfielder).

Humphrey is such a powerful athlete that it's hard to resist such a prospect at pick 6. He probably plays mostly forward next year but I see him developing into a Petracca type as a player.

I did consider Jhye Clark and Jedd Busslinger for this pick, but I couldn't pass Humphrey up here.

Pick 7, Hawthorn selects Cameron Mackenzie.

An early favourite for Hawthorn supporters leading into this years draft, there is more to the Saints NGA product than simply being a Hawks fan.

Capable of bursting away from congestion and linking up with clean hands, Mackenzie offers a point of difference to a Hawthorn midfield screaming out for all the elite end talent it can acquire.
While Josh Ward and Jai Newcombe offer flashes of class delivering the ball inside 50, this is where Mackenzie excels. Those repping brown and Gold are salivating at the thought of Cam on the charge with Mitch Lewis in his eyeline.

Despite now having two C Macs on the list, Hawthorns rebuild gets a much needed injection of unique midfield talent in a player who looks capable of easily playing 250 games plus.

Brisbane match with 20% discount

1920 pts

lose picks 32, (584), 34, (542), 35, (502), 48, (302), for an overall gain of 10 pts

and receive pick 73, (9) in return.
It's 2013.6 points for a pick 2 match.

So they should lose 32, 34, 35, 48, 50 (273) and have a surplus of 160 points or pick 59

Pick 8, Geelong: Jhye Clark (Geelong Falcons, 181cm, 77kg, MID).

In my opinion the most well rounded player in the draft. Has good skills, can take a mark, plays consistently well week in week out. Clark is the perfect fit for the cats who have just lost Selwood and Clark is a like for like replacement for him. Could be a future captain option for the cats and is a low risk pick who will likely play over 200 games. Trained with the cats in the summer and is a local boy. Cats have basically gotten Clark for free as part of the Jack Bowes trade.

With the 9th pick the West Coast Eagles select Mattaes Phillipou.

I picked him because if we don't pick him in the real draft I will obliterate my testicles with a croquet mallet. For a more in depth profile on Phillipou I suggest you go over to Rookie Me Central, where every writer is more eloquent and knowledgeable than the last.

Fuuuuuuuuuu

Pick 10: Reuben Ginbey (East Perth, 188 cm/81 kg, Midfield/Defender)

I was hoping that one of Phillipou or McKenzie would slide here but no such luck. Ginbey is one I can see us taking here if we trade back, he's a big bodied defensive inside midfielder which is what our list lacks.

With pick 11, Carlton select Matthew Jefferson from the Oakleigh Chargers.

Height: 194cm
Weight: 76kg

Matt kicked 14 in four games for Vic Metro, 13 in six for Oakleigh, and many big bags for Wesley College. Usually, he utilises his speed off the mark to lose defenders and take grabs out in front, but has also proven capable of reading the high ball better than anyone else and using his sheer reach to advantage. He's mobile at ground level too, following up nicely and navigating space well for a player his size. (thanks Rookie Me)

Plays like Harry Jones and the King twins.

STRENGTHS:
+ Aerial ability, mobility, overhead marking, scoreboard impact, upside, versatility

IMPROVEMENTS:
- Set shot consistency, strength

Surely after he kicked 7 straight goals he doesnt need to improve his set shot.

With pick 12, and with delight, the Dogs select Jedd Busslinger

After several years of "surely we draft a KPD this year, right?", the Dogs finally get the best one in the pool. 196cm of intercepting prowess, The Buss will bring composure, game sense, and huge potential to the Dogs' shaky and ageing backline.
