Re: Official GVFL Thread (part 2)

You are obsessed.

Does Kevin Sheedy being replaced by Matthew Knights mean that Knights is a better coach than Sheeds?
You dont make sense??
Essendon are going worse than they were last year. If Essendon were a good chance for this years Premiership you could maybe make an argument for knights. But their not. Rochester on the other hand is doing better, a lot better and its not the recruites that have made the difference (if you go on what has been posted). Maybe Dirty was lucky that his success came in a time when the GV wasnt the profesional set up it is now???????
He may be like that bloke who took over from Jeans to win at Hawthorn. I dont think its the local tallent that makes the difference now days!

Yeah and all of that make sense...

Re: Official GVFL Thread (part 2)

Midfield capitalises
Euroa played Mansfield's home ground to perfection as a seven-goal haul from Mark Jansz led it to a 62-point win in Goulburn Valley Football League on Saturday.
The Magpies' midfield backed up Jansz with a swag of goals as Euroa moved up to fifth position on the ladder with the 21.15 (141) to 10.19 (79) win.
Damon Clarke and Leigh Fox gave Euroa first use in the ruck and the Magpies' midfield capitalised with Shane Clayton kicking four goals along with two each for Klay Giovannini, Relton Roberts and Matt Ivill.
Jansz's bag of seven majors sees him stay top of the goal-kicking table with 38 for the season.
Euroa coach David Putamorsi said his side made the effort to structure up in a way that would maximise its run on Mansfield's small ground.
Euroa led by 14 points at quarter-time before seven goals to three in the second term opened a 41-point lead at the long break.
``It was a good win, our best for the year so far,'' Putamorsi said.
``A lot of players were keen to avenge the loss in last year's final and it was clear we went out there with the right frame of mind.
``We got the edge on Mansfield in the middle and it was Clarke and Fox who did that for us.''
Putamorsi said the unsung heroes of the win were the players who closed down Mansfield's avenues to goal.
Matt Mills held Ben Fagan to two goals for the day, while Craig Marshall kept Rick Saunders goalless.
``We saw Saunders as a really dangerous player,'' Putamosri said.
``Craig did a great job.''
Dan Roy and Matt Storer kicked three goals each to lead Mansfield's scoring while Adam Boshevski and Chris Gallagher were better players.
``I'm surprised Mark (Jansz) hasn't been picked for the interleague team,'' Putamorsi said.
``I suppose you earmark his position for a player like Saad Saad.
``But he's got strong hands, he moves well and he's in rare form at the minute.''

Tigers bolt away from the outset
Simon Cameron
A first-quarter blitz by Rochester was the catalyst for a convincing Goulburn Valley Football League victory at Echuca on Saturday.
The Tigers kicked eight goals to two in the first quarter, held Echuca goal-less in the third and ran away with a 22.12 (144) to 12.9 (81) win to solidify their position in the top four with a 4-1 record.
Rochester coach Daniel Schmidt is pleased with the way his side is travelling.
``The guys are doing everything that's asked of them, and everything we're doing seems to be working,'' Schmidt said yesterday.
``I'm rapt with the way we're going.''
Centre half-forward Elliot Bowen and on-baller Ben Duscher each booted five majors for the victor, while Dean Moon potted three.
Sean Murphy was the best of the scorers for Echuca with three goals.
``Our emphasis was to get out of the blocks quickly early,'' Schmidt said.
``Once we got a good start on them ... they rolled the dice a bit a couple of times and tried putting all their guns in the forward line and we were able to hold them out.''
Schmidt said Duscher and Bowen were among his side's best players, along with midfielder Ash Watson and centre half-back Kahl Oliver.
After Rochester led by 36 points at quarter-time, the Murray Bombers fought back with a five-goal-to-three second period to trail by 28 at the main break.
But they could only manage four points in the third quarter, while Rochester kicked four goals to maintain a match-winning 51-point lead at the last change.

Bulldogs no match for Ky's big guns
Gus Underwood
Big key forwards Balraj Singh and Paul Newman turned on a goal-kicking extravaganza to sink a brave but inexperienced and undersized Tatura under lights at Kyabram on Saturday night.
The Bombers romped home by 111 points on the back of a nine-goal haul from Singh and five majors from Newman, but the young Bulldogs never took a backward step.
The Bombers exposed Tatura's lack of key positional players and a dominant forward in notching their second win for the season and only their fourth in two seasons.
While Singh and Newman did the finishing off work, it was the efforts of their midfielders and on-ballers who maintained a steady supply to the Kyabram forwards over the course of the game.
The robust Linc Withers showed why he is one of the Northern Territory's most revered players with a powerhouse display of ball-winning in the midfield.
Chris Atkins was not far behind, with his penetrating kicks often producing one-out duels for the bigger Kyabram forwards, while David Newman was another to free up the ball for Kyabram in the clinches.
Zane Coventry rucked well again, while veteran Scott Hanson again did a lot of constructive work which ensured the Kyabram scoreboard kept ticking over.
Meanwhile, younger players Brad Mangan, Brad Edwards, Steve Thomson, Ryan Butler, Josh Pell, Ryan Edwards, Xavier Hilton and Ben Gentle all chipped in at times for the winners.
The Bulldogs could not be accused of not having a crack and, led by talented youngster Bill Hicks, co-captains Jarrod Pollard and Scott Thorn, Andrew Crawford, Joe Kelly and Jacob Chessels put it to Kyabram at times.
But with no players to take contested marks in their forward arc and a lack of big-bodied key positional players, the Bulldogs are going to struggle to be competitive against teams this season even though they lack nothing in desire, which is all their coach _ and supporters _ can ask for.

Saints have no answers for Swans
Tom Biddington
A clinical Shepparton Swans unit had no trouble accounting for a disappointing Benalla in their Goulburn Valley Football League clash at Princess Park on Saturday.
The Swans were dominant from the get-go, booting 10 goals to one in the first half before running out 97-point winners.
Swans coach Peter White was happy with the result, but particularly pleased with the way his players went about it.
``I thought we played very well in the first half, everyone performed their role and we stuck to the game plan and our structures,'' White said.
``The third quarter was pretty sloppy, but I was impressed with the way we fought out the last quarter, it was a good team effort.''
Glenn Dundovic was the main target for the Swans, booting six goals, while Lochlan Veale, who spent most of the day in the ruck, snuck forward to kick three.
Nathan Bell was dominant in the middle of the ground, while defenders Heath Barton and James Hackett also performed well.
But just as importantly for the Swans, captain Brett Warburton got through the game unscathed in his first appearance of the season, while Rob Montgomery and Lucas White also got more game-time under their belts.
The Saints struggled across the ground and were outscored in every quarter, with Brett Cooper, James Dalton and Brady Green their best players.
Shepparton Swans travels to Rochester next week in what shapes as the match of the round.
``That's an enormous game for us, they're one of the form sides of the competition,'' White said.
``We're going to go in as underdogs and we're going to have to be on top of our game to get the result.''

Digging their claws in
A match-winning performance from Mooroopna captain Rob Osborne has enabled his side to make it five wins from five starts this Goulburn Valley Football League season by holding off a tenacious Shepparton United by 26 points on Saturday.
Osborne kicked a season best nine goals as the Cats rallied from a 15-point deficit in the third quarter to remain undefeated, 19.16 (130) to 16.8 (104).
Mooroopna blew a good chance to set the game up by quarter-time by kicking a wasteful 6.7 to United's 5.1 and take only a two-goal lead at the first break.
The Cats turned the radar on in the second term to skip away to a four-goal lead before United kicked the last three goals of the quarter to cut the margin to seven points at the half.
United wrestled the momentum of the game back in its favour early in the third quarter and looked likely to go on with it when Mooroopna's Ty Parsons was yellow-carded for mouthing off at an umpire about the 20-minute mark.
Although a man down, the Cats continued to answer when asked the tough questions to lead by a goal at the final change.
Mooroopna's class and experience shone through in the last term as it rammed home 5.3 to 3.1 to join Seymour as the only two undefeated sides.
Osborne's haul made him the dominant forward on the ground, while Matt Forys led United's scorers with five goals, but perhaps what was more impressive was the performance of 17-year-old Sam Muggleton in his second senior game.
Muggleton _ co-captain of United's under-18 side _ showed he had all the skills and footy smarts to kick four goals and stamp himself as a player of the future.
Brad Lowe played his best game of the season for Mooroopna rotating between half-forward and on the ball, Blake Campbell had a brilliant first half before drifting out of the game slightly in the second, and youngster Simon Russell kicked three goals and ran the lines hard off a wing.
Ryan Normington was minded closely by Dan Collyer in the middle most of the afternoon but continues to show his class and was among United's best along with Peter Ralph, captain Tyson Sidebottom and Dom Barlow.
``It was pretty nerve-racking in the third quarter because they came back at us and looked like they were going to get on top of us, but I was happy with the way we fought back,'' Mooroopna coach Brad Campbell said.
``Their midfield started to get on top of us in that quarter ...
``Instead of going in and getting the ball, we were waiting out for the handball and we weren't pushing back hard enough into defence.

Lions flex muscles in display of power
Ashleigh Williamson
A devastating 10-goal-to-five third quarter gave Seymour an 84-point victory over Shepparton to leave it perched on top of the ladder undefeated along with Mooroopna after five rounds.
Shepparton was looking to topple the Lions for the first time since round five in 2005 but was put on the back foot early when Seymour flew out of the gates to lead by 23 points at quarter-time, a lead that was extended to 28 by the half.
Shepparton coach Richard Warburton gave his side a spirited rev-up during the break and assured his troops they were still in the contest if they didn't lie down and concede defeat there and then.
A couple of quick Lions goals early in the third quarter had them seven goals up and in control before Simon Thorsen, Andrew Gullick and Chris Cullinan goaled to bring the resilient Bears back to within four straight kicks.
That was where Shepparton's resistance ended as Seymour piled on a further eight goals to head into three-quarter-time up by 65 points.
Shepparton committed far too many skill errors on which Seymour capitalised with fluent ball movement in numbers as it ran away a comfortable victor, 23.23 (161) to 12.5 (77).
While the winning margin would have satisfied Seymour, it could have been much bigger given it had more than double the amount of scoring shots.
Saad Saad in particular was wayward in front of goal, finishing the day with six goals and just as many behinds.
Coburg reserves player Ben Clifton bagged three goals including two classy finishes from beyond 50m and is looking to establish a regular spot in the side after narrowly missing out on selection in last year's senior grand final.
Shane Schottner had the better of the centre ruck contests against Marc Harrap, Tim Hooper's rebound off the back line resulted in many scores, and Guy Pemberton racked up plenty of ball in the midfield.
Chris Cullinan bagged five goals from the midfield to be one of Shepparton's best along with Nick Allan in his 100th senior game, Daniel McIntyre and Tobi Kennedy.

I don't think you'd get a coach who was more professional than Williams, maybe a few other clubs weren't as advanced as them at the time but it's not like they weren't a professional set up through his time.

No matter where they were on the ladder you could always see they were well drilled.

Re: Official GVFL Thread (part 2)

The GV may not have been as professional (doubtful), but I would argue that Dirty was one of the most professional coaches throughout his career.

A large number of quality players (ex AFL) were playing when Dirty took over in 92 and the clubs were pretty smart and professional with regards to how they went about recruiting, paying, grounds etc...

I think that Rochy may be in a honeymoon period at the moment which happens with most changes of coach. A different style is refreshing, but by no means does the results prove that Lenny is better than Dirty. Give it 15 years and then make a comparison.

Re: Official GVFL Thread (part 2)

Doesn't say much for their other coaches then! From what you Rochy people post Dirty was too hard on his players, coached too negatively and is only liked by people in his own club. Didnt her also have the job for sooooo just because the club didnt have to pay him??

Rubbish.

Just admit that you hate Dirty/Rochester/the world and yourself and then the rest of us can go on ignoring your nonsensical, illogical posts.

How long will that last?
Cant say I will miss having him post crap everytime someone has something to say.

Euroa are having a good start to the season. Will Hyatt have to come back in throught the 2s with Jansz kicking heaps of goals?
How's buisness and the snow dropping going?

They lack direction, the players are selfish & when it gets hard like it is now they go missing & leave it to the younger players.

I think you put that first fullstop at the start there by accident... WTF???

Keep trying big guy... When are you in town next? We'll have to catch up for a beer... ;)

what are everyones throughts on the tatura, bears game next weekend?

Tat Thirds by 5 goals.

If we have same teams as last week, then the bears on current results should be able to win both the Seniors and Reserves by 5-10 goals. However we had about 7 players unavailable from our seniors and 7 players injured from our normal reserves team against Kyabram. If we can get most of these guys back this week then it will make us alot stronger and we should be able to beat the Bears.:thumbsu:

Re: Official GVFL Thread (part 2)

So Cellar Dweller got a red card. How long does this mean he is sent off and not be able to post any messages?

Would love to get down for a game at the Memorial Jim. Bit busy up here. But will no doubt catch a Yarra game and Pies game during the year. Might be a bit ironic if the little Putta man could break the Pies drought being an Ex Rochie boy..;)

Have Euroa gained a few since the start of the season? Watched them in a praccy game (on a friday night - lost by 7 or 8 goals) and they looked a little off the pace. I know you take practice games with a pinch of salt, however you still watch how players go about it.

Is it that they have a few new guys or were they missing half their team? They seem to be smashing a few teams now which is a good sign for the club.

The boys they got from the top end go very well.

The bears should be able to get over the line you would think, there form has been ok in the last few weeks with a win against benalla, and pretty good first halfs againt rochy, euroa and seymour, but they just dropped away in the 2nd half in all of those games, just a lack of experience maybe, but i would tip them to have there 2nd win this sunday V's Tat

explain. which younger players? i think they are relying on each other to do something special and noone is putting there hand up at all. i also rekon its being able to string 4 quarters together.

You weren't having a big weekend that week were you Johnny?; they played all their praccy games on Saturday nights!:D

Who did they play in that game by the way?

Correct - It was the labour day long weekend and was a saturday night. The extra day put me a day out... but not too much drinking at all.

Playing - Wang Rovers ???

Re: Official GVFL Thread (part 2)

So match of the round Shepp Swans vs Rochy - how are the teams looking? Who is missing from both teams? I think I'm gonna tip Swans to win by about 4 goals.

Swans may have one or two inclusions not sure if anyone's gonna miss due to injury.
