I’m nervous for this one. During the early 2000’s I was an angry young man and everything was still too raw for me to really enjoy the wins.
Sure I wanted the Lions to win for all the fans who’d been through so much (on both sides) and seeing the colours and the Lion on the big stage was a thing of beauty. But it felt like being on the outside looking in.
Over the years, things like Fitzroy Football Clubs merger with the Fitzroy Reds to field a side at Brunswick St and seeing the Queensland based fans support the old Fitzroy fans over the paddle pop lion jumper have helped heal the wounds enough for me to admit to myself what I already knew deep down. I’m a Brisbane Lions supporter and this is my team.
