Collingwood fan on my flight had a “Country Road” branded bag as their carry on. It’s a sign.
My daughter has taken a "Country Road" bag to the footy for about 8 years.
The bag is showing its age though.

Todays Captain run was amazing. I’ve been fortunate enough to be the last training in Melbourne for the previous Finals games and some home away runs and this was at another level today. Standing ovation for Fagan was lovely and Fages looked surprised and appreciative. Didn’t go to the parade but there was a massive amount of supporters in the precinct area for the footy festival post training run. Walked past a Collingwood supporter out of the ground who was on the phone and said “I’m a bit worried about how many Lions supporters there are”. Yeh mate let’s hope so
The parade was a bit more sobering. Completely outnumbered everywhere I was (the start and the finish).

In 2002 I was camping at Kennett River in the week leading up to the Grand Final. On the last day of our trip, I saw a magpie that had been hit by a car and completely flattened. It was a SIGN. Please keep your eyes peeled people.

I asked open ai to write an "it was a night before christmas" but for the 2023 afl grand final:
'Twas the night before the 2023 AFL Grand Final, and all through the MCG,
Not a creature was stirring, not even a koala;
The banners were hung by the goalposts with care,
In hopes that the Lions soon would be there.

The players were nestled all snug in their beds,
While visions of premierships danced in their heads;
And Fagan with his tactics, and McRae with his plan,
Had just settled in for a championship span.

When out on the oval there arose such a clatter,
I sprang from my bed to see what was the matter.
Away to the window, I flew like a flash,
Tore open the shutters and threw up the sash.

The moon on the breast of the newly mowed grass
Gave the lustre of midday to objects en masse,
When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,
But the Brisbane Lions, with victory so near.

With a lionhearted coach, so wise and so quick,
I knew in a moment, it must be Fagan's pick.
More rapid than eagles, his players they came,
And he whistled, and shouted, and called them by name:

"Now, Neale! now, Zorko! now, McStay and Andrews!
On, Berry! on McCluggage! on, Rayner and Cameron!
To the top of the ladder, to the premiership wall!
Now dash away, dash away, dash away all!"

As dry leaves that before the wild hurricane fly,
When they meet with an obstacle, mount to the sky,
So up to the Gabba's roof, the players they flew,
With a team full of talent, and Fagan there too.

And then, in a twinkling, I heard from the stands,
The cheering and roars from the Brisbane fans.
As I drew in my head, and was turning around,
Down the race came Fagan with a leap and a bound.

He was dressed all in maroon, from his head to his toe,
And his clothes were all tarnished with grass stains, you know;
A premiership cup he had flung on his back,
And he looked like a coach just preparing to attack.

His eyes—how they twinkled! His smile, how merry!
His cheeks were like roses, his nose like a cherry!
The stump of a whistle he held tight in his teeth,
And the roar, it encircled his head like a wreath.

He had a broad face and a little round belly
That shook when he laughed, like a bowl full of jelly.
He was chubby and plump, a right jolly old elf,
And I laughed when I saw him, in spite of myself.

A wink of his eye and a twist of his head,
Soon gave me to know I had nothing to dread;
He spoke not a word but went straight to his work,
And filled all the banners; then turned with a jerk,

And laying his finger aside of his nose,
And giving a nod, up the race he rose;
He sprang to his feet, to his team gave a shout,
And away they all flew like the Magpies in a rout.

But I heard him exclaim, ere he drove out of sight,
"Happy Grand Final to all, and to all a good night!"
The Brisbane Lions were the champions this year,
And we'll remember this victory, that's clear!

Good luck tomorrow.
I have been a John Denver fan all my life but as a pies supporter I feel very conflicted about tomorrow. We all know that you’ll country roads after a Charlie goal but after he’s 5th can you sing a different verse please.
As if any of us know any other verses

Off to catch my 8.55 pm flight very soon. Arrive late in Melbourne.
Most likely no more posting till Sunday evening.
Hopefully the boys can do us proud and get the win.
If not, we at least extended the season to a GF match so one spot better than 2022.

What part of Section 5 are you sitting in tomorrow Section 5?

All my memories,
At the gabba

Brisbane's lions, greatest in the league

Will and Fletcher, aiming oh so high

Charlie takes a speccie,
Teardrops in my eyes

City roads, take me home

To the place I belong

Eastern Brisbane,

Woolloongabba

Take me home, city roads.
