I just threw up from reading that.

Simon Cox.

After his immediate impact after being recruited, he started the Hawthorn culture of exclusively drafting left footers.
Cox was briefly seen as a shining light but faded away quickly. Those were some tough times with a team full of pretty boys that weren't up to the task. If I recall it was the dark days of knights and Schwab as coaches. We simply just lacked the cattle. Could never accept that constant feeling of losing week after week. It sucked. But here we are now. Happy days!

Lake was a player type we needed desperately, Gibbo has been a hawk all his life and just had to play with north for a bit. He is easily the one who has given the most to the hawks. Burgoyne is the best player so is probably technically the greatest mature aged recruit.
Salmon had a huge impact for us as well.

There's been some good efforts in finals by our recruits, probably a sign that we have picked up players that fit our needs well, but also players that are made for the big stage, we don't settle for second best these days like we had from 2002-2007

Dew's 3rd qtr display of brilliance in th '08 GF

Burgoyne pulling us out of the sh!t in the '13 Prelim

Lake in all of his finals

Clearly has to be Gibson. Has a greater body of work at Hawthorn than Lake.

We could have won 2013-2015 with Gibson but not without Lake.

Lake just completely smothered the gorillas who were tearing us apart before he came, whilst previously Gibson battled solidly against bigger men and got plaudits for it his assignments since Lake came over have been far easier.

You build premiership winning sides around great Fullbacks not around peel off 3rd tall defenders however good they are.

I'll choose the mark over the fist every day.....although I suspect Clarko would disagree as clearly do you!

Good effort, no Shaun Rhen.

It's almost as if we need some videos to decide.

Like this guy eating all the pies.

Edit... tell me again how this bloke missed out on a Norm Smith?!
To answer the edit, because he wasn't the best player for the other 115min of the game.

And no disrespect to the fatman, but 2 of those 4 moments in the video may not have happened if it wasn't for Buddy. In the first one, he intentionally brings the ball down to Cyril instead of going for the mark, and in the second one, he beats off Scarlett and Taylor before dishing off to Dew and providing enough of a shepherd to allow Dew to get his shot off.

Danny Jacobs can think himself unlucky to miss out. Wade skipper?

Really highlights what a difference it makes when you have the wright people running your clubs recruiting. ( one of clarksons great strengths is that he knows who can play and who cant ).

There are some awful players in that group, what were we thinking?!

Not a lot of recognition here for Russell Greene. 3 premierships, 300 games, all Australian and best & fairest. Hard to split him with Burger and Gibbo.....superstars.
This works for me. I wonder if its because of the age of the posters?

But even so I can't go past the piece, the last piece in the puzzle, Lake. I already miss him and we haven't played a game yet.

What about players from other non AFL clubs?

Platten, Buckenara....

That needs a whole other thread.

Cowgril Neil lobbied for years to get rid of Hawthorns zone, believing that was the sole reason for our success, the idiot never once considered that Hawthorn was the best at finding and signing interstate talent.
