Green v Jones Jnr

Biggest waste of $50 ever. I was looking foward to seeing Green on his back, lights out. Sad way for Jones to finish his career (you'd assume this will be it) almost embarassing in a way.. especially to lose to Danny Green in his last(?) fight.

Fwiw, if Mundine vs Green ever happened again, as much as I wanted Green to KO him last time, Choc would destroy Green again!

I watched this at Burswood Casino too. It went right f...... off! There was a deafening roar!

I sat right next to the fight in the crowd. I was so close, my wife took a guys bourbon all over her jeans when it flew.
Heard that fight was 1000X better and went longer then the green/Jones

Haha I must agree, infact there were 2 fights occuring just before and then after the Green fight. They were more exciting than the showpiece event.:p

When Green went on the attack after he got Jones, the level of noise was incredible I must say.

There isnt much of an age difference between Green and Jones- you can't use that as an excuse.

Jones was in amazing form going into this bout, just look at him in the fight before talking shit to Green in the front row whilst dodging punches! I've never seen anything more awesome... until,

Tonight! Aussie boy DESTROYS one of the greatest boxers ever. Not just in points. Not a late round KO. A TKO in the FIRST ROUND!!!

It was surreal. And to all you idiots that wrote Green off; "you dont know shit!" And you dont really. If all you guys are such boxing experts why didnt you jump on Green at $64 first round win?

You need to learn something around here mate, never let the facts get in the way of a good, yet embarrassingly stupid, hate on. Has likka, that perennial hater of all things Australian sports related shown his face yet? I got a good laugh out of his comments on the first page. Thought he must've thought Brett Lee was fighting.

to all those that are NOW saying that RJJ was past it and shouldn't have been fighting should pipe down.

firstly, Green's 36 too, and to add to that age he's nowhere near the boxer that RJJ is/was. everyone can agree on that. although you could argue that Jones has been in the business a lot longer.

secondly, whenever I stated (anywhere to anyone) that Jones was 40 and that Green's got a chance all I got back was, "look what he did to Jeff Lacy/he's still just as quick/Green has no chance/RJJ will outbox him etc. etc.", and I agreed with some of those comments, but now it's gonna be the same people saying that Jones should've retired a long time ago rah rah rah

thirdly, to all those that kept comparing Green to the Mundine fight (and i know it's been said already), that was years ago with Green at an unhealthy weight and with a lot less boxing skill that he has recently displayed. Another match with Green & Mundine will never happen, their weights are just too far apart (Mundine's apparently trying to move even further down according to his interview tonight).

earlier in this thread i stated something about RJJ not displaying much foot movement lately, and that Green's dangerous when his opponents are in front of him. well, Jones hardly moved, got backed into a corner, and got hit with a shot that pretty much ended his night.

the reason jones didnt start punching back? my guess is because those memories of being ko'd in the past and having felt green's power early put him into a shell. he wasn't going to risk removing those earmuffs. the fight was rightfully stopped because Jones wasn't going to get a chance to recover.

Green gets a massive notch in his belt, and RJJ lets down a whole lot of punters.

Also I agree fully with whoever mentioned Will Tomlinson as being a highlight of the night. I liked it how he said he might go on to fight Pacquiao at 50!

btw i meant to post that ^^^ last night but my computer is consistent as .... hmm... boxing??

mundine's a fool to think that anyone cares about what he does anymore

Explain why mundine dodged greens attempts for a fight at the peak of his career and instead waited till green started to lose a bit?

Because he wanted to win a world title not destroy a redneck? Green expected Mundine to cancel a title chance to fight him you know....

I was shocked and a little saddened by the outcome of the fight. Congratulations to Danny Green he caught him flush with that right hand but to see Roy Jones Junior go out like that was so, so disappointing for one of the greatest of all time. :(

Hopefully Green can go on with it now and cash in on his performance.

is it just me or did matty campbell say during the introductions Danny 'The Green Machine' Mean!!

god that was terrible

yep that's what he said

i facepalmed

he said his name three different ways throughout the night, and it wasn't till the third time that he got it right
1 - Danny "The Mean Machine" Green
2 - Danny "The Green Machine" Mean
3 - Danny "The Green Machine" Green

ffs

He did the same in the Mundine/Green fight in 06 as well. Called Green 'the Man...err...the Machine'

No he wouldnt, Green wouldnt be fighting him in the stupid weight class he had to last time.

Cant believe people were saying Jones Jnr was in great form going into the fight, clearly they didnt watch his previous fight. Was very sluggish even though he got the win. Jones Jnr should retire, its a shame though. He will miss that pay day against Hopkins next year.
