Greens blame Coal miners for Qld floods

"It's the single biggest cause - burning coal - for climate change and it must take its major share of responsibility for the weather events we are seeing unfolding now...It is costing billions of dollars, besides the pain, the anguish, the loss of life, the destruction..."

australian coal miners should be tried for manslaughter :D

The Wivenhoe dam was built in the 1980's I believe.
Officially opened in 1985, first used though in 1983 to mitigate potential major flood. Without Wivenhoe most believe the peak would've been about 6.5m rather than 4.5.

On Bob, he really should stop smoking the green stuff, he's lost the plot.

The mining industry is actually contributing quite heavily to cleaning up the areas along the Fitzroy river, by sending out their employees to work on the clean up until the mines can re-open.

This may be an easy to rubish murmur right now, but in the years to come this may become a chorus after each new disaster.

dunno man; don't you think the gag will get a little old if he keeps reusing it?

hopefully bob can keep reinventing his style and stay comically relevant for future natural disasters. :thumbsu:

Well maybe.

The funny thing is though that those who jump on the "this is not caused by global warming" side seem to want to use 200 (odd) years of flood data to prove that this is a natural 100 year event.

.... then rubish global warming proponents use of only a few hundred years of data for their predictions.

Sounds to me, like we can be 100% certain of neither (normal or induced).

hhuh?

thinking that bob's hilarious comments are mind bogglingly inane /= jumping on the "this is not caused by global warming" side. regardless of whatever "side" one takes, anyone who can appreciate the complexity of climate science and climate cycles etc. would surely know that bob has made a major league dick of himself here (and personally, i love it :D). if it wasn't a case of "par for the course", re: bob making a dick of himself, people might actually care.

Typical Bob Brown following the script.

Promoting GREEN propaganda at the first opportunity. Typical of the Greens.

Soon to be typical of the World Wild Life Fund, Greenpeace and the Australian Conservation Foundation ..?

You can bet these clowns will jump on board with Bob Brown in the near term supporting these ridiculous claims.

What can be 100% certain is MOST, if not ALL of the climate science that supports AGW, has been shown to suspect, if not downright bogus.

Bordering on fraudulent.

B. Brown is morphing into G. Pyle.

When i heard what he was about to say this morning I went 'surprise surprise surprise' here comes Gomer.

Seriously who votes for him.

There is no direct link between recent floods and global warming, but this is a good heads up as to what the world will be like if we dont act on CO2 emissions.

All the modelling of Co2 increases show more extreme weather being more common.

What BS with regard to Co2! And i love your "conclusion" that Co2 is the culprit. Nothing said about cosmic rays, nothing said about the Solar cycle. Nothing said about the 21,000-year combined cycle of precession and advance of the perihelion which drives long-term climate.

Typical of modern day climate scientists.

Show and link these climate models?

Heads up Jolly. I am just a layman.

Start here. Be warned, Steve McIntyre is on the ball

To quote our intelligentsia such as Pazza.

"Instead, Tony Abbott immediately went the build more dams approach. Failure of leadership. Made the issue political. Not fit to be even considered as a possibility of EVER being PM. Just shut the @#$% up and get out of the way."

Oh wait ... wut ?

Why is it so hard for people on both sides of politics to understand that there's actually two completely different debates in the global warming debate?

One is obviously is the world getting warmer.

The other, also obvious, what is the cause IF it is getting warmer.

Both so obvious, yet people confuse the two.

Well maybe.

Hang on. Global warming proponents are saying its all unprecedented and is only occurring because of man-made carbon emissions. Those on the other side say its all happened before, many times over millions of years, and goes in cycles of cooling/warming.

Bob Brown, Tim Flannery et al are looking very stupid for their overblown hyperbole during the drought now that it has been broken in such a spectacular fashion, just as it was in '74 and at other times before that.

I think Grog has the best summary of this issue. Brown is a fool for what he said, but Abetz bring Noah into the discussion was just a stupid.

Reading the Oz to get unbias news about the Greens is a waste of time too

Crocodile tears from a guy who lives in a huge house and drives a 4WD.

.. which sits in the carport most days as I ride to work, and while at work the solar panels on my roof cover all my electricity bills and some.

I have the carbon footprint of a chinese peasant, which just proves that going green does not put you back in the stone age.

No, extreme weather is competely in line with global warming predictions. The fact that we have had a very severe drought, and very severe flooding one after the other merely reinforces their models.

And its not just us that is coping the extreme weather.

And has never happened before, of course? :D:D:D
