In the biggest match of the year the Gumbies lined up against the perennially successful Swamprats with a spot in the big one on the line. In a team game it is rare that you can pinpoint a loss on an individual or any single incident. The pre-lim was different in that respect where it is very east to see where the game was won and lost and who was to blame.
WHAT SORT OF CAMPAIGNER TAKES OFF RODNEY DANGFIELD AND THEN PUTS HIM IN DEFENCE!
Yeah, that campaigner in that moment cost the Gumbies a spot in the Grand final.
I guess I should talk about the rest of the game.
The Swampies got off to a flyer, kicking the first few goals before the Gumbies kicked backed with 2 of the next 3. From that point there was less than a kick in it for the back half of the first quarter with a couple of lead changes to boot. With the Swampies going into quartertime a couple points up.
The second quarter was more of the same, this game was turning into a beauty! The Gumbies kicked a goal early in the second to take the lead via talisman Rodney Dangerfield. Then insanity struck. Dangerfield off. The game continued with each side swapping goals, GWS Goose and StFly standing up in the absence of the big full forward. Thankfully the main man returns, but WTF, he is in the back pocket. The Gumbies get past this and go to main break in front by less than a kick.
The third quarter started well for the Gumbies despite a couple missed opportunities from Jivlain a goal to bone2468 took the Gumbies out to a 2 goal lead.
Unfortunately, the Swampies kicked the next 5 to get out to a 20 point lead. Normally we turn to Rodders to be rodders at this point but he was in defense. Stupid coach. A couple late goals saw us enter the last quarter with the Swampies up by 12 points thanks to a late quarter goal to hall of famer okeydoke7
The fourth quarter started with the teams trading goals before the Gumbies missed 3 opportunities which they would later regret, but were all of a sudden the lead was back to single digits with plenty of time on the clock. A Brick Loosener goal had the Gumbies within a goal and with all the momentum. Last to First was back on the agenda!
Alas, that is where the dream ended. The Swampies kicked the next 4 and it was all but over. A couple of consolation goals at the end to the Gumbies were too little to late.
GWS Goose & bone2468 each kicked 3 goals, with Rodney Dangerfield, okeydoke7 & Brick Loosener doing the damage on the score board.
The leading possession winners were StFly (30), Barrybran (27) and GWS Goose (26)
A sad end to a great season.

GWS Goose
GWS Goose joined the Gumbies after signing up to play in the Big Footy Tour of Qooty match on the GWS board prior to season 29. He took to the Gumbies and Sweet FA immediately, winning the krisholio Rising Star award and placing 3rd in the EKA Medal in season 29. Goose joined the Gumbies' leadership group this season and has been a fantastic contributor.
GWS Goose wins tonight's count by a single vote from cats2rise, the closest margin in my tenure as captain. Unlucky c2r - you've had a fantastic season and we've loved your contributions this season.
One of my favourite parts of putting these events together is reading comments when you already know the result. I would like to share this gem with you all.
