Essendon should just cut their losses while they're ahead and push for a 2nd round pick. If he succeeds at another club well that's just the way the cookie crumbles. I know all of you are going to be like 'ohh but it's his first pre-season without being on the sidelines' etc etc, his not going to gain pace with a pre-season under his belt. Time will tell i suppose.

He is surplus to their needs. Hurley, Danahir, Ryder and Cramari will all play before him. They have been given two major gifts this year Goddard for nothing and the Number 1 draft pick for pick 10. They should just be reasonable and find the guy a club who wants him.

Saying his a required player is just a stunt to try and increase his market value. I'm certain if they get offered the right deal and Gumby is willing to leave he shall depart Windy Hill.

I have pointed out before how he is not "surplus to our needs".

Essendon will only trade him if he demands it. We're not going to get anything close to what his talent would demand, so we're much better off keeping him - as selfish as that may or may not be.

edit: Daniher is going to take a couple of years to grab games by the scruff, so Gumby has a spot to lose 'til then.

Am I allowed to disagree with your assessment?

Would you make Daniher take the monster defenders, every week from day one? Or would it smarter to play Gumby and let Daniher ease his way into it?

Besides Gumby earned his keep in his 6 games last year. Play 22 games and he would have been our leading goal-kicker.

Then piss him off when he is no longer any use to you. If you care about the guy let him get on with his new footy life.

-We don't know how long Daniher will take to develop
-We still don't know where Hurley will end up playing

There's a spot for at least this season for Gumby. After that it depends on what he can produce, but last season showed we'll play him at every opportunity.

Besides, why would we trade him for trucks like Suban?

If you want to keep him, give him a contract he is happy with and I am sure he will stay. We have been trying to get him to Freo for years but he wanted to stay at Essendon. You won't have to srcatch and scrap to keep him but he has to think of his future.

If his back is that bad why would you give anything for him?
Don't know if we will. No formal offer has been made for him.
His long history of injury must make him a bigger risk than would be considered reasonable for pick 16 though wouldn't you think?

Pick 37 might be a bit light - you probably need to look for a way to upgrade it to something like 25-31 and thats about fair.

If you wait till next season though - if things don't change for him, you could probably get him for pick 56 - its the risk the Bombers take.

I would imagine considering they used such an early pick on him though, they would be happy to take that risk - this year at least.

Is Griffith happy @ Freo after he missed out on finals? could he be used as bait - or even as a tool to upgrade your pick?

Agree totally! Would just rather keep him tbh. On a side note how Caddy can be worth 2 first round draft picks is beyond me...

I think Griffith used to play for your mob,the name your looking for is Griffin......but don't worry most of the so called experts on 7 couldn't get it right either.
Also Griff happy at Freo and is contracted for 2 years(signed last month)

Freo hold no risk in this situation (or his salary cap) the Bombers do.

Freo to offer 3rd pick if no deal, let him stay at the Bombers and they can take the risk for next year and potentially get nothing, or he has a gun year gets a contract and good luck to him.

Freo need a better KPF, but if Gumby isnt it then they will just move on.

There is always risk my friend it's just the level of risk you can afford to take.

Gumby to Freo for 4th round pick, very similar to how we got Keplar. Roberton to Bulldogs for 3rd round pick. Jesse to stay.

Straight swap for ROBBO would b a great trade
We don't need any more half-back flankers and we need a developed KPF
Essendon could use A half-back flanker to free up heppell and dempsey through the middle of the ground.
They do not need a KPF especially considering Danihers coming through

Why the heck would we need a HBF...especially one with poor kicking skills. That is probably the LEAST of our needs, I would consider a small forward/midfielder/ruckman as our most critical needs. Goddard will free Heppell up, we don't need an average HBF who is surplus to our needs.
