Gumby to Freo

Would Essendon supporters would prefer he failed at their club or succeed at another??

Supporters get attached to players and end up over rating them - you don't get a better pick because he is a good bloke. Most supporters are the same - McIntosh is not worth more than pick 36 but supporters want more. Why? Because he was good as in 2010 as a 26 year old. Does not add up. Gumby is the same - he is not worth much - BUT he was pick two and showed glimpses so supporters over rate him and want more than he is worth.

Classic UTG.

So Freo are only interested in getting him in the PSD, but it is Essendon that are being unreasonable?

Nice way to contradict yourself, but I suppose you always have to try and make Essendon look like dicks don't you?

Hang on, read between the lines. Maybe the reason our club is saying that we only want Gumby through the PSD is because your club's making unrealistic demands and being hard to deal with.

Unrealistic demands? Like taking a pick we won't use. Heaven forbid we might actually want him stay.

Offer him more then a one year deal and prove you want him would be the solution then.

We the supporters? or we the Essendon Football club offering a 24 year old a 1 year contract?

With Ryder, Hille, Hurley, Crameri, Daniher all able to play forward the one year contract tells me that he is on the list in case the Weapon strikes again and rips your foward line to shreds. If Gumby wants game time and security then Essendon is not the club he should be at.

at the end of the day gumbleton should realise if it wasnt for essendon football club hes career would be over!!!!! so i think he wants security but realises in the harsh reality 1 year is probably fair... i assume if he had some brains he would sign the one year and work hard have a good year and then get an extension.

Pretty simple.. otherwise PAY OVERS!!

He is an uncontracted player - he can walk and you get nothing - not sure why you are demanding overs??

As for security - if he is offered 3 years why on earth would he stay at Essendon on 1? If he breaks down he gets triple what he would have of. If he comes good he can get a better contract in 3 years.

That statement is just wrong

Yeah, ridiculous!

The 28 games he's played in 6 years clearly demonstrates his durability, and the fact that didn't play a single game in at least three of the seasons he's been on the list, well, to any savvy list manager that'd smell like a ripe candidate for a long-term deal.

Well we just offered Hansen 3 years coming off playing half the year in the VFL.

Maybe if it wasn't for Essendon's complete mismanagement of his injuries he'd have played a few years of decent football by now.

Don't delude yourself that anyone will pay 'overs'. He'll just walk to the draft.

I'm now thinking he may stay at Essendon due to a lack of suitors. Neither Freo or the Dogs are keen, while Carlton would prefer Dawes.

Agree - or maybe Freo and co are playing it down so they don't have to trade for him and can get him for zero in the PSD??

I think he is worth the risk - offer him 3 years.

1) Cheap - little salary cap used even if he does not play.
2) If he comes good it is a massive win.

Risk and reward is a green light for me.

You know what i'm saying smartass.

Of course, but the club clearly wants him. We didn't have to offer him a contract, yet we have. Obviously we are in the best position to know his situation and how to protect ourselves. The first priority is to retain him, if he chooses to leave, we want compensation that will actually assist our position.

According to previous posts, apparently because we're being cautious, makes us unreasonable. Hardly a fair assumption.

What compo do you think is fair for a player you can get for free?

We don't need to pay overs, he isn't worth more than Robbo or a third round pick. We could use him if we can keep him on the park (which is a fairly big if given his run with injuries.

Cheap or not at all. He's not getting opportunity there. He will here. If he wants to play football, he can walk.

Possibly, but there's nothing stopping Essendon picking him in the PSD before Freo.

He's cleary testing the waters, but with no one yet making an offer I now think he'll stay. Maybe I'm a tad optimistic.

That might be the case, re his value, but its basically giving us nothing. Its like us giving you Dell'Olio, when he wouldn't get a game in front of Ballantyne and Walters, its worthless.

If essendon want to keep him they simply need to offer him a two year contract.

I can't remember the last time a player went to the PSD and didn't get to him preferred club.
