In that case just give us the third riund pick by itself and we will send Kevin a pallet!
No way Markovic should be considered for a mini draft pick. Maybe as the icing on top of a mini draft pick trade, nothing more.

Rookie,

Thats what I mean by "package" - something like WB's #6 plus him plus something for MD2

Sorry to intrude.
Have any of you guys heard anything about you being interested in Marcovic?
It's looking like our clubs are going to be dealing a bit on trade week, and I think we would be open to offers for him.
I think we would be interested in Giles if Minson leaves too. What do you guys think would be the asking price?
2nd rounder and Marcovic for Giles and a pick you won't use anyway?

Markovic fits the profile of the player the club says they want.

That said, GWS are much more likely to be offering 3rd or 4th round picks for players like Markovic.

There will be a queue of clubs, starting with Adelaide, Port Adelaide and Collingwood, for Giles. I'd be expecting a player-for-player swap.

If you guys get really early pick for the MD which is a given then I'd be drafting, Whitfield, Grundy and Plowman.

Outside run, freak footballer
2nd ruck to Giles and best in TAC, will be a super talent
191cm def big bodied although not the 194-5 height wise and sensational rebounder
Plus the quick fix mature defender until plowman comes on...

You guys will do very well again this year.

Sounds right - but funny enough if Giles gets traded on then I can't see us taking a rookie ruck. We will need a ready made replacement.

Sheedy has given some indication for what we are mainly looking for, defenders if I am correct. With this in mind, I also think we should continue the successful formula by replacing similar to similar, whilst supporting the young players and allowing us to keep the salary manageable for when they need to pay full maket rate.

Given the above and anticipating that Brogan and Power will retire to full-time coaching, I'd suggest:

a. Ruckman: To keep Giles and get another mature ruckman to support him for a year or two (until Phillips or Downey are ready). David Hille from Essendon might come cheap or for nothing if he leaves Essendon. Will Minson would be an option, particulalrly if Giles leaves GWS. A smokey from left field is Daniel Currie who is in the SANFL, previously played for the Swans and as such is no stranger to the Sydney area.

b. Defenders: Brett Thornton as a KPD and Russell Jordan as the rebounder. Jarred Rivers is a consideration but he is more likely to be sought and seek an oppotunity with a club which has a more immediate chance at Finals.

c. Mids: Brent Moloney as the inside strong type. If he is actively sought by stronger clubs he may be in a smilar position to Rivers. Another outside mid like Xavier Ellis or Clinton Young would be good, plus I like the idea of bringing players from a variety of successful cultures and we have no-one from Hawthorn.

d. Forwards: One from far-left field, Nathan Ablett. He is 28, super talented and desperate to get back to the AFL. See how he goes in the finals with Werribee; If Geelong don't give him a third chance, I would give him a one-year contract. At least he would be a good remonder to the young players not to waste their chances before the years roll bye.

e. On a seperate note, Alan Richardson or Ken Hinkley look like good options for the Senior Assistant's role.

you dont want nathan ablett.
we have no forwards and still he couldnt crack our side.. the game has past him

Jayden Post 196cm 95kgs 22 years 2nd round pick #26 - Whipping boy at Tigers but thats Bigfooty played 5-6 games towards the end of the year, Might be worth a look .

Shane Tuck - For pure inside mid that can rack up statts - You would get him free out of contract
Daniel Jackson- another inside mid(not as good as tuck) but a pretty reasonable tagger - pick upgrade your 2nd for tigers 3rd (mentioned you wont be going that deep/ possible 3rd pick

Totally left field but as a Hack Ruckman untill Grundy,Downie,Phillips ready -Angus Graham free to good home

No Tuck - he's signed a one year deal with Richmond.

I guess that goes to show you can't read too much into rumours started from someone who reckons they overheard Giants officials talking at a game in Melbourne...

Tucky was never leaving, lives and breaths Richmond.
It was definitely one from left field when the rumour came about, and it's not surprising that it was nothing more than something someone allegedly overheard at a game haha now if only they'd named the other three uncontracted players and we could cross them off the list too. Good result for Richmond.

Fantastic News - Guys like Tucky are a rare breed & he will be on the vets list in 2014 so basically we will have a player of tucks ability for about $100k on our books,That type of deal gives us so much relief with salary cap availability.

I think GWS should go after Byrnes from geelong, free agent, dirt cheap, strong body and a good bloke who would help a lot next year. Still has 3-4 years left in him

That's not a bad call. I like this, it's a bit under the wire but could fill a small forward slot for a few years.

Sheeds is having a real crack at Greg Broughton from Freo who has been told he's a depth player from here on in.

No to Brent Maloney - we already have enough small mids
No to Nathan Ablett - too unstable
No to Will Minson - too much of a d*ckhead
Maybe to Shannon Byrnes - useful small forward but with some accuracy problems
Maybe to Clinton Young - although he's not particularly that anymore
Pity about Tuck

1 player that i think can do really well at a club like GWS and is part of our leadership group is Daniel Jackson, Not the most talented player in the world but a very good clubman and leader that can lock down players and add experience - would be cheap in both cost and dollars

Any way the mail about Bret Thornton joining us is getting stronger so would be a solid addition for a couple of years
probably one of the worst players you could get to your team i believe, constantly abuseing yelling and blaming others for his sh!tness ................. Hate to see him giving your young kids a spray for his mistakes

lot better options out there

We could fit in an honest veteran anywhere, including in midfield, but the single absolute key is they need to want to come to GWS.

Yes, this will be easier now that we have shown we arent a completely hopeless footy team. But if they dont want to come, they arent worth the list spot or the cap room.

While I don't know anything about Daniel Jackson, I really don't like players like this i.e. Not that skilled but a good team man. We actually need solid,
consistent players on the team to make up for the lack of consistancy from the kids. Players like that end up bringing the total skill level down too much. Plus we already have guys like Cornes and Reid who kind of fit that category. You could say Scully does as well...

But also, the young players will be guided by the senior players to some extent. Seeing how they train, how they respond to coach direction, etc. That is the advantage of recruiting good citizens. We could have had the same argument against James McDonald's recruitment. I'm happy for the club to recruit 1-2 older players who may not be top 10 performance, but have good mental attributes and help organise us on the field. Daniel Jackson would be a great example.
