Both will be tough. But bring our intensity and effort from Friday and I don't think it will matter!

Both sides have elite talent. Gws have higher expectations so I'd rather face the older eagles. But then again, Mitchell and Petrie have given me nightmares over the years. Having McGovern and yeo pick off our passing and jjk kicking goals is pretty scary to think about.
Honestly a 50/50 game and potentially getting nicnat back could be a big factor.

Anyone actually 'wanting' to play GWS over WCE is a serious masochist.

GWS losing Cameron is kind of a blessing in disguise for them. Not because it was Cameron specifically but because it should force them to reduce the height of their team a bit and give them a bit more run & defensive pressure.

I'm seriously scared of a well selected, hard running GWS team on a dry afternoon/evening at the G.

I would think we are little chance against 80k Richmond fans at the mcg. Our peahearts would just be too intimidated.

Having said that, I think the pressure will be on your 22 to deliver the Richmond faithful from 35 years of disappointment.

I would like GWS if Mumford and Cameron are out. Sheil and Coniglio also looked cooked towards the end of the game this week.

Lids ran out of legs in the first quarter too. Still has damaging disposal and might take the odd contested grab, don't want to jinx it, but keep any defensive player in his zone and he's gone, he won't be chasing the rebounds either.

This thread is just begging to backfire.

I guess West Coast would be preferred, given they finished 8th and would be making their 3rd straight trek across the country. GWS beat them twice this year though so I think we'll be playing them instead, even if Cameron and Mumford are out.

Keep in mind, West Coast nearly beat us at the G early in the year. We should go into both games favourite but either could upset us on the day.
How is it begging to backfire? We have to play one of them in the prelim so we may as well discuss the merits of playing either side and a preferred opponent. As I pointed out in the OP I don't see either team as an easy opponent as we'll still need to play damn good footy to get through.

I want west coast to beat GWS in a hard tight game and beat the living crap out of eachother

We have an easy path into the grand final by playing at the MCG - Its upto us to make sure we bring our A game and desperation to the game

Both teams are suspect in pace, West coast with their older players and list demographic GWS with the amount of talls they play

Our boys will be well and truly rested after just 1 game in a month and an easy game at that with a full list to select from.

Run Run Run - thats what we need to do

Eagles are very slow, move the ball slowly and are stagnant at times.
I think they'd be a perfect match up for us.The other campaigners scare me because if they have a dry track and a day where it goes well for them, well I don't reckon anyone can stop them.

Sorry to intrude.

Just wondering do you think an extremely low scoring first half like on Friday
would hold up in a prelim against say GWS?

GWS best hope would be to start very fast and silence the nearly 100% Tigers crowd.
Geelong played with 10 or so defensive players, hence the low scoring game
Our coaches told the players to keep doing what they were doing as the good would open up
And then it did

Low scoring GWS is fine for us

WCE as they will be an easier opponent in the Prelimin. WCE winning will also make GWS 3rd round pick more valuable.

GWS very very suspect on the road dry or wet, not scary at all.

WCE will know they have to be extremely physical against the giants to be any chance.

All we can hope for is an extremely taxing game.

I feel like GWS are playing like a bunch of extremely talented individuals but not well as a team.

No Cameron for the rest of the finals series, mumford on crutches makes it interesting
Mumford and Cameron out will improve them. They're playing too
top heavy and have looked extremely slow in the last few weeks .
If any coach hasn't worked out how the game is being played nowadays then they're in the wrong job. They looked better five weeks ago when Cameron and Patton were out.
I'd prefer to play gws as our pace would swallow them up.
Eagles I only fear playing if it is a nice day as their aged , but experienced midfield could get enough ball to their mobile tall forward line to do some damage. Even then I still think we would overrun them in the end as like last night their mids dropped off.

Cats going back to the G this week aswell thought that would have been at simomds
I think MCG/MCC have some contractual rules that state one game must be played at the 'G. Not sure how far that extends in finals, but sounds like it might at least include Week 2.

If we play like we did against Geelong who gives a shit, these two teams will be lucky to not lose by 100. For the first time under Hardwick we can actually turn up the intensity of our gameplan and it's impact is huge.

I remember thinking at half time, there is no way we can continue this level of intensity, we did and may have even increased it, it was scary good!
