See you in 12 months time and if that doesn't work Cam will walk to us and GWS will get nothing.

Not in 12 months he won't. Contracted for two years. And if he walks after that and we get nothing, well, that's ok, we'll have gotten two years of football out of him (which is exactly what we're paying him for) he will be thanked for his services and leave with our good will.

He signed a contract, he'll have fulfilled his contract. Can't ask for any more than that.

I think he meant in 12 months, and if that doesn't happen he'll go for nothing the year after ie to the draft when the contracts finished

That's ok. Good luck getting him in the draft if goes into it. If we can work out a trade (ala Treloar) then that's fine too. But after his contract is finished, he's free to do whatever he wants. That was my point. Don't have a problem either way.

You see, I come from a Rugby League state, and while you may not understand/like the game - I'm used to having players from my club sign contracts with other clubs a long way out. So I know, as a fan, they're not going to be there next year. I also then watch them put in week in week out (and I cheer them on) because they're professionals.

Look at Dangerfield this year. He almost certainly knew that he probably wouldn't be in Adelaide next year - went out and won their B&F.

I'm a realist. I know McCarthy won't be a one club player. I know he will most probably end up at Freo. But at the moment he plays for my club and I will cheer him on every time he gets near it. And if he is a professional, and wants to enhance his reputation, he'll do his best while he is here.

Sadly some of your fellow Freo supporters don't seem to think he is a professional. It seems I have a higher opinion of him than you do.

IN: Simpson, Johnson, pick 10, pick 34, pick 43, pick 53, pick 55, pick 58, pick 63, pick 64, pick 65, pick 70, pick 95, Collingwood's 2016 first rounder, Geelong's 2016 first rounder, Adelaide's 2016 2nd rounder

OUT: Hampton, Townsend, Plowman, Lamb, Phillips, Sumner, Treloar, Bugg, pick 8, pick 27, pick 48, pick 66, pick 84, pick 120, 2016 5th rounder

Pick 102 is the first pick that we both started and ended with.

I can't do maths but I call this a win. Stevie J. Ruckman 2. Plus Hopper, Kennedy and Himmelberg. AND 2 first rounders next year and a second. For essentially Traitoar and Plowman. If we can get that other young ruck in the draft I'll be stoked.

Only doubt is Traitoar stood up when the going got tough, but I'm confident one of Steele and Hopper could replace him. We had too many players in the mid. Now we have another star small forward which is much better balance. Devon, Stevie J and Cameron plus the General and Sunshine. Much better forward line than last year.

Not as high quality, e.g. probably not top 10, but up to four in the top 20.

Yep.
I don't understand the points thing. If someone bids do we have to give up the same amount of points - which become forfeits? - but get a 20% discount? Because they are our academy player?
So someone wants Hopper at 5 we have to surrender 10 plus other picks or just 10? And do we get a discount? So 10 plus a crappy pick 43 or something?

You take the points that bid is worth.

You take off a 20% discount.

You take however your next however many picks that add up that total.

Any points left over become extra picks that you get back.

Cheers Dianod.
Under the old system you just gave up your next available pick after a bid. Is that gone now?
Points - 20% discount only = pick 10 + 43+120 etc.

Yep.
With the points GWS have accrued in this trade period (3267 in total) they could get Hopper and Kennedy as long as they go no higher than picks 3 and 6, leaving very little change for later picks. They're unlikely to be picked that high though, so all up we will probably end up with those two plus a couple of later picks.

Apparently we lost bigtime. got the worst result (C-) along with Freo. Really?
Although they said we needed to stay strong on the Sunshine bid they slammed us for not taking value. Media sucks in your country. So biased.

The rating of C- must surely take no account of the future picks (2016 draft) GWS picked up, being two first round picks (Collingwood & Carlton) and 1 second round pick (Adelaide) to add to one in each of those rounds they will have already.
As long as the points accrued for the 2015 draft are enough to secure Hopper and Kennedy (which they should be), a C- will look like a typo in years to come.

Yep. We can also go into deficit in later rounds, which will be taken off our later picks in 2016.

Like you say end of the day he signed a contract if he didn't want to be there why sign it in the first place if anyone needs shafting it's Colin young, he's always been a dick.

Spot on. Some of the crap that comes out of Colin Young's mouth just tells you the real reason he wants a trade to happen is for him to get a transfer / contract commission fee i.e. nothing to do with the players best interest, welfare etc.
I really hope Stevie J can sit down McCarthy and others to explain that all the success Geelong had wouldn't have happened if players hadn't made sacrifices.

As much as I hated to see Treloar leave (especially for Collingwood), I think GWS had to make a call on re-signing Shiel or Treloar at market price rather than risk losing both. Therefore, the offer eventually made to Treloar was very low.
Agree that Steele really showed promise this year and could step up to fill any midfield void next year. Kelly on the outside shouldn't be discounted either, could have a breakout year.

These analysis are flawed for clubs like us as we were clearly positioning for the draft in 15 and 16.

We get 2 top 10 talents this year plus a brace of early picks next year.

I'd say we did extremely well

Yeah he's knob, i remember last year he thought Ross Lyon was a dick for hating on Mitch Clarke, when we'd got shafted on him aswell (before he left footy) bagging freo out after we made an stupid error on him. End of the day I'd love cam at freo, yeah he's homesick people will forget that.. But he's contracted end of the day if it happened to Fyfe we'd be wild. Just hopefully the GWS guys don't give him to much shit for what happened and he hates the club
