Re: Hall offered 1 Weeks (Thread Title edited for accuracy)

Bullsh_t charge. He shouldn't be rubbed out for something so insignificant, and for him to miss a grand final is much too harsh a penalty. If anything, give him a suspended sentence.

And to those eagles supporters coming out with comments like "its his own fault", i suggest you open your eyes. If this happened to an Eagle you would all by crying & screaming how the AFL is conspiring against the WCE.

Yeah, players should have an open slather to punch anyone whenever they want, regardless of where the ball is, as long as they steer clear of the head. :p
ha ha ha

and no its shouldnt be open slather...but not a supension for somthing that wasnt though of as a suspention for the last half of the season....ive been told that Prelims and GFs shouldnt be different to other games...

well???

I'm guessing that all those people are condoning the use of thuggery in sport.

For a perfect example of "thuggery" as you could it.

Look at the NRL - Carl Webb KING HIT a Melbourne Storm player (Ryan Hoffman).

Now that's thuggery.

What Hall did was niggly, players do it from time to time due to the tension of the game. That doesn't mean he shouldn't be suspended though.

Do you think players that jumper punch are thugs?

Daniel Chick smacked Micky O'Loughlin in the jaw in the QF and DIDN'T get reported, let alone suspended. Both players were at each other all game. Now I have no problem with this. This is what football is all about.

A PHYSICAL CONTEST!! :thumbsu:

I really want Barry Hall to play. He is an excellent player to say the least, and his club need him. But i feel no sympathy whatsoever because as a captain he shouldnt be that dumb as to punch a guy (even if it was a tiny bump) and get himself into this kind of mess... Idiot play by Barry Hall, and it can now cost him to play in the finals, and possibly cost his team the cup!!

Terrific post. It is sad that a great player may miss the biggest game of them all, but at the end of the day he has no one to blame but himself. Too many people are trying to point the blame elsewhere when there is only one person at fault. Quit blaming the AFL and McGuire, because if Hall had of kept his fists to himself no one would be discussing this at all.

That's a pretty cheap comment to make to me. I stated my opinion, and just because it differs from yours, you are acting like I've offended you.

I fully accept any argument against me if I say that Hall will get off, blah, blah, blah. But I don't feel that I was doing that.

It's pretty obvious to me that you feel the Eagles can't win if Hall plays. I actually have THE OPINION that if Hall doesn't play, it will play into Sydney's favour, because O'Loughlin slaughters the Eagles when he plays as the key Sydney target.

I've had my say. Now leave me alone. I've no longer got the time for the likes of you.
I'm just pointing out that you don't understand the procedure.

You don't seem to understand what the Swans will need to prove in order to get Hall off, and you don't seem to understand that Hall's record is of zero relevance. Zero!

You made a stupid comparison with Ricciuto's suspension and claimed that as a reason Hall should get off.

You've got no idea.

Express all the opinions you like. Just don't pretend that they match up with reality.

As for whether WC can/will win if Hall plays, I haven't taken a stance either way on that, so there's another baseless conclusion you've been happy to draw.

You're on a roll.

But then he wouldn't get the 1 match discount for an early guilty plea
I wasn't aware there was such a thing as "1 match discount".

There's a 25% discount on the demerit points if you enter an early plea.

Hall can contest elements of the charge and then plead guilty to a lesser charge.

That's what most of the last 20 pages have been about.

Hall will probably contest the "location grading". He'll claim it was "in play" rather than "behind play". If he's successful, he'll only face 5 activation points which is a level 1 striking charge.

If he enters an early plea to that lesser charge he will escape with a reprimand.

Sigh. Yes, you do. They give it to you for pleading guilty, on the principle that you shouldn't be punished for the MRP not assessing the incident correctly.
It's tough explaining it to people isn't it?

It never ceases to amaze me how keen some people are to express trenchant opinions on issues they clearly have very little understanding of.

They may as well be arguing about crop rotation principles in the 15th century.

They seem to have as many clues about that as they do about the tribunal's workings. But that doesn't stop them from having an opinion.

Whatever you do, don't tell them off for expressing an opinion, no matter how uninformed they might be.

It might be worthwhile for some people to have a quick read of the 2005 AFL tribunal system pdf which explaines everything. I don't have the link for it - but if you can find the pdf pay particular attention to "example F" towards the end of the document if you're interested in what hall can do to get off.

Um, it wasn't insignificant. Macguire doubled over and Hall got free as a result.

Bottom line, YOU CANNOT PUNCH SOMEONE IN THE STOMACH & EXPECT TO GET AWAY WITH IT.

The AFL hates 'behind the play' incidents.
