Looks like two hawkies were caught with their pants down. If guilty wonder how the media will treat them, wonder if the HearldSun will have a full cover page of them.

Not saying what HB did was alright under any circumstances, but his bad boy image is greatly exaggerated when other players have done or doing much worse.
Hawks will just say whoever it was is a good bloke and feels bad about it. No suspension though.

To deflect away from this you blithely state, without proof, that "Hill is not a top 50 player" and when confronted with independent but contradictory evidence you simply dismiss it out of hand.

The appropriate context is that Hill finished third in the Doig for the third consecutive year in a minor premiership team with 6 AAs, and was rightly praised by club officials and coaches during and after the ceremony for this amazing consistency.

Contrast this with the usually un-tagged Bennell who failed to finish in the Suns' top 10 (under a near-identical voting system).

This is not to say that Bennell is not gifted or a great trade-in. But to compare two players executing different roles under different game-plans whilst deliberately ignoring the elephant in the room that is a tag is as disrespectful as it is erroneous.

I can safely say, I have no idea what you're talking about.

I have never said "Hill is not a top 50 player". I have done nothing but support Hill in this thread....

I am assuming that you have quoted the wrong person. ;)

Are you kidding! You realise he's guilty of knocking a cigarette out of a nightclub bouncer's mouth!

Apt analogy is apt when you choose to ignore logic and reality. You contradict yourself by acknowledging Hill does get tagged which implies the opposition are seeking to contain the damage his role as distributor can inflict. It's embarrassing that others, even an opposition poster, can see this and you can't.

Third in the Doig? So what?

Freo only had two AAs btw.

Get your facts straight before you lecture others.

Rest easy, I was utilising your (quite correct) comment regarding the tags that go to Isaac Smith.;)

So what??!!

Seriously noob, do you even know what it is?

FYI, it's the club's fairest and best, with votes determined by 5 members of the coaching staff. Where a player finishes is critical not only to a player's remuneration (i.e., bonus), but how the club would be recompensed in the event of a Compensation Pick should a free agency trade occur.

And in the case at hand I repeat: his consistency in finishing third for the third time was praised during and especially after the ceremony by far better judges than you or I noob.

That's 6 AAs by my reckoning. Statistically speaking I'd say that was 100% correct

why do all the controversial posters on here have virtually the same opinions on every topic. Its like you know the opinions of these contrarians before they even say anything. They live to be opposite, they are never surprising.

Players such as Wingard, who already has 2 x AA at the age of 22. But gets no where near the media coverage. He does the things that Cyril does, but consistently.

Agree, Wingard over Cyril every day of the week ... far more complete a player.

Wingard is super skilled, knows exactly were to be on the field, can genuinely play midfield if he has to and has close to the best goal sense in the league IMHO (well second best to the recent model Eddie Betts who has had an freaky year in front of goals). And as you say FR, he does it pretty much week in and out.

Bennell doesn't have the same goal scoring thing that Wingard does, but I'd actually put them in a similar class in that they have so much natural talent. In both cases, they are only a bit of hard work and discipline away from being truly elite.

Has anybody seen this one doing the rounds?? Can't believe it hasn't been posted here yet!! I think it's from the same guys that did the Crowley/Mitchell WWE vid. Enjoy!! :D

In what way does being top three in the Doig make him a top 50 player in the league. Josh Gibson is a twice Hawks B&F in premiership years. Is he top 50? I wouldn't even have him in my top 10 key defenders.

LOL, historical AAs? Clutching at straws.

Did Hill finish above Fyfe who did make all Australian?

It was you who emphatically stated that Hill was not in the AFL Top 50 as part of your fatally flawed comparison with Bennell. In contrast myself and others have provided independent, verifiable and unbiased facts (Doig, AA nomination, AFL release).

Who has the greater credibility?

And riddle me this. If two players have almost identical statistics and Brownlow votes over the course of the season and one finishes at the top of his club's B&F while the other is practically ignored in his, what does this say about your beloved statistics?

You say tamotoe, I say tomato, you say potato and I say stop acting like one.

Really noob, it's a serious case of myopia you have if you don't stop to think a while when you see "6 AAs" before firing off a melty response. You should go back and re-read the Bigfooty introductory email which advises noobs to take the time to understand how forums operate before posting.

It might say that Harley wasn't meeting expectations off field...and was suspended...which we know

Yes, missing games would have reduced his tally though Aaron Hall did finish 7th on the same number of games as Harley (Ablett figured 9th on just 6 games, but he's excluded as his freakish ability marks him as an outlier). Interestingly Harley finished 9th last year on the same amount of games as this year, though IIRC he was troubled with injuries.

But in my opinion comparing the results of the two B&Fs further underscores just how genuinely consistent Hill is. That he could average over 11 votes a game (23 games) while their winner could only average 6 shows both his resilience and ability to maintain an elite standard.

This of course assumes that the Sun's scoring system is the same as ours. From the research I did I could not identify any differences (5 judges, maximum 25 votes a game). The fact that their winner last year averaged 11 votes would seem to lend support to this assumption.

Wingard may be a more complete player, only marginally though.
Cyril Rioli is a player with the biggest "X- factor " (I hate using this phrase) in the competition. By far.
Not sure about all this negativity on Rioli (mean in general on the whole BF). Yeah he annoys me as much as anyone but...
He puts pressure about twice as much as Mayne (for example), is a ferocious tackler and is very reliable kick for goal. Not to mention his overall skills. He's way more valuable player than Wingard.
With Rioli in the Freo team we'd be 2-3 goals better side, guaranteed.
