Fair enough. I wasn't 100% sure.

If its the case of GC can just tear up his old contract I honestly can't see how they wouldn't accept a 3rd rounder? A spare $1.2 million over the next 2 years is surely worth more then picks etc.

Am I completely missing something?

Would you accept that deal for a contracted player?

I would offer them a second round pick and leave it at that. They sacked the guy, so there is no way they can expect a first round pick and it would be stupid of us to offer them that.

I am very confident that they will accept a second round pick for him.

What would be a bigger scoop Bennell or McCarthy?

Disagree. IF Bennell stays on the park he has the potential to be an out and out superstar of the competition. He was easily the no.1 pick on talent that year (they gave it to swallow because he was more mature).

Mccarthy is a good get no doubt. But Bennell's upside is enormous.

If I'm throwing them out of my club and saving $1.2 million over 2 years then I'd heavily consider it.

Other option is delist? Or keep and look like idiots?

They ain't going to pay someone 600k a year to play in the magoos (which is what rocket eade is threatening) just won't happen.

600k of cap space in the free agency era is equivalent to a 1st round pick.

Bennell is the footballing equivalent of the children's cubbyhouse you took down and put on your verge a week too late for bulk rubbish collection.

It might have a value, it might be really good but right now you want it gone and you need someone to take it away before it costs you a fine.

Harley has been fired. GCS will improve their trade position by publicly stating that they are happy to give him a second chance if no suitable deal is sorted out, but that will take a big step away from their current course.

If you're connected with the club and want to improve their position, lobby for that public statement because right now there is a $1,200,000 storm cloud hanging over your 2015 salary cap if he can't be moved on and there is one team at the table to take him off your hands.

Something for you to take into consideration is the GC need to be fair but tough in this negotiation, with players like O'Meara and Prestia coming out of contact we can't be seen as bending over and then other clubs will be looking to pick us clean.

I hope you get Harley as he will be a significant boost to your premiership hopes but understand this needs to be a win / win

We are on good trading terms with Gold Coast. We gave them Broughton for peanuts, they let us have Mzungu for peanuts. I can't see either club trying to shaft the other. We will come to some arrangement involving probably our second round pick and an agreement about the payment of Harley's contract.

I think your being a little naive here, but it's your board so I wont push it

All the best with the trading season and 2016 :thumbsu:

I think in this case GC need to send a message - if you don't tow the line then you are gone.

Rocket obviously had some cultural issues he is starting to get on top of. If he wants to shoot one to teach the rest a lesson then Bennell will be going for cheap.

Luckly GC is so loaded with talent they can afford to do this.

I'm not going to get emotional and kick up a fuss because you have a considered disagreement with me :)

Let's have it out.

Harley nominates Freo alone. That means one club is available to trade for him as no other will get consent required.

The floor is yours :)

Not being facetious but in the case of Bennell, you will lose. He has let you down and now you need to get what you can for him.

If all we offer is a 3rd - if I was GC, I'd just delist him.

If we offer a 2nd, shop it around and see what the value is ...it may get a Seedsman or Howell across the line.

If we offer a first, take it and leverage it with GWS & Sydney as part of their impending academy costs.

As much as I'd love to get him really cheap, I have a feeling it'll end up being 1st rounder for Bennell.

No need. They have sacked him so the wheeling and dealing is in our favour. I believe a second round pick is a good trade. Freo' certainly aren't low-balling GCS offering it as a trade.

That's what I'm hoping Bond does anyway.

I think de Boer and a 2nd rounder is a good offer. I know people will think it's not enough but now that he's nominated Freo GC have no power.

De Boer will give GC strong leadership and work ethic and that's something they desperately need. He also will give them toughness which they need. He also can play multiple roles and I think he'd excel in a half forward pressure role (GC don't currently have this player)

2nd is good for us but really shitty for them.

I'm hoping there is a fringe player that Rocket loves.

I'm getting the feeling bidding starts at our 1st rounder

Do Freo' need to offer them a player with the 2nd round pick? Bennell was sacked after all so that decreases his trade value IMHO. I think it's the other way around - Bennell has nominated Freo' so we hold all the cards.

GCS also somewhat shafted us over Broughton a few years back.

It may start at 1st round Moo but I sincerely hope Bond can stare down their negotiators with that one.

I still hold out some hope we can secure a KPF this trade period. I reckon we'll need it for that trade because clubs know to shaft us because we are desperate for that kind of talent.

you might not even need to offer a 2nd rd, everyone else has pulled out. Why offer a first rd pick when there are no other suitors? Hope it works out for Harley as what I have heard is not good.
