Preface this thread by saying it's purely here, on a public board for public discussion of Reid's contract developments.
More than likely an extension in some form.
It's more a public discussion place on the terms of the deal, as Harley is a bit of a test case in Australian Sport at the moment for domestic max earning capacity.
He's also a sample case surrounding some of the newer rules and functions around 3 year draftee contracts. I've seen Eagle fans allude to re-draw functions within the 3rd year of a draftee's contract, but I'm yet to see that confirmed anywhere and seems at odds with some of Jon Ralph's recent articles.
He's also a test case of post draft contract, max long term deals and how they might look into the 2030's with more TPP increases and CBA agreements.
Jon Ralph has stated that Reid's management may request up to $2m for his fourth season as compensation (for want of a better word) for loss of earning capacity due to the 3rd year, for a 1 year extension. Interesting if this becomes the norm for bigger name draftees.
Ralph has also stated that $18m x 10 year offers could be tabled by Victorian clubs, with him raising Essendon specifically as the most interested.
