How can you have 50 disposals at VFL level and not be ready for AFL football?

The VFL isn’t u16 football.

Let’s not also pretend like the current AFL product is the 1980’s either.

He wouldn’t be playing in the center square either.

When most people refer to as a young player not being ready for AFL football, it surrounds endurance, which isn’t an issue for Binns.
Once again, have you actually watched Jaxon Binns play a game before?

What are you talking about?

I’m calling out your shitty assessment as to why he hasn’t played.

‘Physically not ready’ is garbage.

Go deeper.

It’s not just one poster making this statement though. It’s many who have watched him play VFL. He’s developing nicely but simply not ready yet. That’s not a garbage or throwaway line. He has amazing endurance and he has ball winning ability. But those two qualities alone does not make one ready for AFL. What he lacks at this stage is strength and clean disposal, both of which he will need to improve to get a call up. He needs to be able to impact without the ball in hand. He can take a shortcut and head to a lower rung team where he will be gifted games only for that team to also realise he needs to keep developing in the VFL or he can stick out his contract, buckle down and work hard on his deficiencies. At which point he’ll get a call up and likely be in a position with a well rounded game to become a best 22 lock. So many players look for easy way out these days.

The spot is his to take when he’s ready because like others have said, Cottrell is a placeholder. The path into the best 22 is there for him.

I reckon he's been ready for a while.

He's cleaned up his disposal compared to last year and is working harder off the ball in regards to tackling and zone defence.

I've watched most games this year also.

Vossy obviously doesn't rate him like he does Hollands otherwise they would've been switched around a while ago.

We have 4 dedicated wingers on the list plus Lucas Campo next year. I'd love for him to get a run at it but for his sake he may just call it. I could see him getting a run at least 5-6 other teams.

Well he's still a ways off being a ready made AFL footballer, needs a big pre season in the gym... But I thought he's been pretty good for the last 2 weeks and has free'd up Ollie Hollands to play a more half back style role where he's been much more impactful. Good signs for the future.
