:) Just finished reading David Teague's report on the Bullants/Port Melbourne game. He mentioned in the report that they tried Hartlett down back and he found a lot of the pill. He finished as one of the best. It maybe that we have found a big body to go down back and take some of the big forwards. At 195cm and around 99 kg Hartlett might be a real find for CHB. This may place less strain on his hammys and give him a real chance to find a permanent spot in the first 18. It would also help out Jamo and the rest of the guys back there.

With Carlos looking at home floating around CHF and the middle, Hartlett might be just the player we need.

Thoughts! :)

I am thinking the same thing. If Waite and/or Thornton are playing key position we are doing it wrong. Jammo at FB and if he turns out any good there at CHB.
He's tall enough, athletic enough, and the right build to play as a defender. He's a good long penetrating kick and that will be valuable in defence. I would like to see him given a chance in defence if he continues to go well there. I can see him matching up on a Riewoldt or a Kosi or Franklin.

Waldo, love your work as a rule but can't figure out how a backline role will put less strain on his hammies than up forward.

Fair call Thy. Unfortunately, experience tells us we can't RELY on Harts for anything. This is despite my belief that he could be a useful KPP if he could stay on the park.

Hmm im ok with our KPs at the moment actually. Hopefully aussie will develop into a replacement if needed, but i think waite thornton jamo bower can handle most players well enough if we control midfield

Yes he could. We do need an extra key defender. If we lose a player, our defense is exposed badly. e.g. Jamison going off injured against Brisbane.

Jarrad Waite plays his best as a roaming tall, as evidenced against Richmond. A surplus of key defenders allows Waite to play on the wing or as a forward on a needs basis.

Adam's competing for a position with Mark Austin. Whichever player is physically better prepared and in form will get promoted if they can play consistently for a few more weeks.

Nah, I dont think so..

Between Jamieson, bower, austin, waite, thornton and o'halipan, i think thats enough. He would have to prove himself a bit more just yet..

But like the thinking:)

Wouldnt be the first time we change a KP forward into a KP defender. If I remember correctly Jon Dorotich came over to play CHF in the same year as another famous CHF and because he was outclassed by said other player (who wouldnt have been) he ended up our CHB for our 87 flag team.

My thoughts too but injuries? With Jamison: 3 wins. Without: 2 losses.
The irony of Hartlett and injuries will not escape readers... :D Still, he's on his last chance and would play for the next 17 weeks like his career depended on it.

It'd be nice if we had an extra option. Setanta has re-invented himself as a forward. Austin may be a year way from stamping himself physically on a game. Don't forget T-bird is one indescretion away from tribunal devestation.

With close to our best team in we're top 3 (currently). Lose a few players and we're back to 11th.

Is he a chance to play this week? has been good the last couple of weeks and with Johnson's automatic omision, perhaps a good time to give him a chance and see if he's up to it? Also provides another tall option downback, so we dont get quite as found out as we did against he lions.

Playing FB will be purley about him getting some touch and also for Team balance.....................don't write him off yet due to those bad hamstrings, there was a certain ex-Hawk who went to Freo with similar problems and has since been very very serviceable (ala Mcpharlin).

Think you'll find Dorra played mainly forward (pocket next to Kenny Hunter) in our '87 triumph if my memory serves me correctly 30yB. Of course Rhys won the Norm Smith eclipsing Brereton at CHB. :D:thumbsu:

Despite that Dorra did play some useful footy for us down back over the years post '87. It'd be great if Harts could stay fit, make a go of CHB and release Waitey. Austin's a much more realistic bet though.

I will give you the benefit of the doubt that you posted that with tongue in cheek.

Despite my recall error, the point I made is still valid, Dorra played CHB in our losing 86 Grand Final team and is best known (remembered) as a defender, but came across initially as a forward. That he played forward in our winning 87 Grand final and back in 86 illustrates my point. SOS also played a pinch hitting role as a forward and there was some discussion/speculation in the press at the time that he was in fact disgruntled at having to play fb and preferrred to play forward. The point clearly is that a player can forge a career in another role if places in the preferred roles are limited by other players at the club at the time.

I feel my eyes have been soiled reading someone compare a great like Dorotich to an crap, injury riddled hack in Hartlett.
People should wake up and smell the roses, Hartlett is a dud, should have been dumped at the end of last season IMHO. He is finished at this club.

IIRC, Walls pulled an early shock with Dorra opening up on the ball and going forward later in the game.

Yeah im pretty content with our KPP's ATM. But as someone mentioned, if Jammo goes down or waite, we're really exposed. Thornton and Bower are much to light on to take on the power forwards.

So having 1 or 2 KPP in the reserves would definately be handy. Which i think we have already in Austin and Sentanta. Not sure if there's room for harts. With promising rookies and next years draft coming up, we'll need to clean up our list and his looking a bit dirty.

I see your recent stints on the sidelines have not taught you much. Do you have genuine comprehension problems or do you just post rubbish like this to get a bite.

No one is comparing anyone to anyone else. The thread is about a player that had so far been tried forward without much success, could possibly play down back and have some success. Not at how good Dorra was or how bad Hartlett may be. And besides who's to say Harts might not find a niche as a KP backman and one day be up there with Dorra.

Sometimes your posts become really tiresome.

Sigh ... the great apologist is at it again ...

I have seen Hartlet many times close up at either the Bullants or I've been to most, if not all the games he has played at senior level, and sorry but Hartless is just not up to it.
His marking skills are only just passable, His skill level is deplorable, with his kicking skills worse then a pirate with one leg.
Not to mention he has a body that is more vunerable to breaking down then a mexican with swine flu.

I will give u Hartless won't be at the club next year, i'll cut u some slack because u clearly aren't in a position to watch carlton as closely as us, nor the Bullants, but honest to Christ, the man offers this club nothing and will be culled at season's end.

Sigh...again YOU are arguing something that is not being debated in my post. I do not mention in my posts whether Hartlett will be any good at CHB just that it wont be the first time our club has switched strategy with a kp player.

Here I will make it simple for you to understand. This is analogous to the way you debate:

I might say something like: "At night, navy blue and black look quite similar." Your argument in response. "Black is a crap color, I have seen black on many occasions, it is an insult to my intelligence that you would compare black to navy. But I will grant you that black is losing popularity and most likely wont be used next year".

Like I said, you seem to have comprehension issues. (to say the least).
