I think blues remind me of collingwood of circa 2018 about them.
kind of going through what you would call a false dawn and just cant match with the big guns of the comp.
a good team but times ticking and might need to bottom out for a couple of years before having a real shot at it.
like what pies went through 2017-2021
i think they need to move on some of their older players and go again.
might need more assistance in the coaching panel
voss cant do it all himself

What arguments are being made? We had some All Australians this year so we can't improve next year?
JAB JAB should just leave the actual rebuttals to carlton_99 though as his content is really just banter-exclusive gibberish.

On the topic itself, I think it's unfair/unreasonable to expect any more from Carlton's top 7 or so players (as a collective) besides TDK. They can hold their elite level though for a couple or maybe even a few years. Depends how Cripps and Newman hold up as they're the oldest of that group.

A significant improvement from the rest of the group is definitely possible and I would say is what could push Carlton into top 4. If they can do it for a full season.

How much improvement there is in any teams best 6-7 players is a red herring though isnt it? Carltons best 6 or 7 is as good as any other team's same number maybe better than some ...however

It takes 22 players to play a game and a squad of more than that to be able to cope with a full years AFL football...

To argue that Carlton (or any other Club's) list has peaked is a different question than that which was not asked in the thread title - but to which you refer to and that is the top7 players...

To lower my standards though and respond to the red herring ...

I can see the possibility of improvement in the perfomance of Walsh/Cerra/TDK/Curnow(all injury constrained in 2024 and Mckay - not so much in Cripps or Weitering - although improvement from all these ( fitness and form leading into finals and in finals if they make it ) would be enough to improve team potential perrfomance ..

MORE significant would be improved possible performance from the Holland brothers/Williams , Motlop, Durdin and a lift and continued development in Moir/O'Keefe/Lord/Binns and Wilson - players no one has really heard of ..a bonus might be how well Smith can intergrates into AFL when he gets a gig.

I see the Carlton list as a list nowhere near having peaked- too many young players with ability coming through and will benefit from continuity.

Same can be said for a lot of teams I guess - but I wont speculate on teams I am not familiar with as far as total depth and potential for growth goes.

Well said. Everyone knows what we're going to get from most of our top stars, just like with every other team in the comp.

What happens in the group below that and our role players is where a difference will be made.

Just like with every other team...

Agreed, good post.

Huge seasons (career best or close to it) from Walsh and Cerra would go a long way as that would make Carlton's the best midfield in the comp.

Curnow's numbers remained fantastic in 2024 but I agree that his ceiling for overall influence is higher.

And I really don't think Carlton have the worst batch of kids, all you need is a few stepping up and a couple of surprises and they can be useful role players.

Like you allude to, the same can be said of many teams in the comp. Carlton are in the pack that can both improve and contend in 2025.

Kennedy and Owies will be a loss for them. Hewett will need to play all games to provide that bollocking protection for Cripps and Walsh in the middle and it’s critical he stays fit. Jagga comes straight into the side and may give that midfield a different look straight away.

Not sure of the role of Haynes. He doesn’t replace Newman or Saad down back. Might be back up coverage in case one goes down perhaps.

A fit Motlop should replace Owies but losing him is a risk, particularly after they offloaded Cuningham and Martin (the right calls on both) but leaves them thin up forward if there are injuries.

I like Williams as that third option up forward and the side looks more dangerous with him up there.

Their squad has got weaker over the off season but their best 23 is probably just as strong if they get all their players on the park.

Their biggest recruit over this time may have been their fitness and conditioning guy. Hopefully the rumours of the coaches overruling the previous one when it came to playing under
done players last year is just sour grapes from Russell.

Haynes will be replacing Kemp down back as a third tall/2nd KPD as Kemp has now shifted to playing with the forwards.

Oh jeez. Here we go again. Deja vu from the media. The same author predicted 12 months ago that the Blues would make the GF in 2024. Now he's gone a step further for 2025 and it seems a strange prediction given the way 2024 ended. Time will tell if this constant pressure to qualify for the GF is a positive or a negative for the Blues. Seems like more of a negative to date.

The premier will be... Carlton

30 years on from their last moment of glory, it finally happens. And yes, the Blues did Steven Bradbury their way into an elimination final last season, then were scoreless for what felt like an eternity. But the Carlton side we saw in the back half of the season, when they faded from 11-4 to 13-10, was ravaged by injuries (as they always seem to be). And even on that losing streak that nearly cost them a spot in September, they had just one loss by more than 14 points; they weren’t THAT far off even at their worst. This list is simply too talented to have another wasted season, and even if they can have a normal run with injuries, the top four is easily within reach. In that scenario, with the city buzzing, we see them carrying that momentum all the way to the decider and then beating Hawthorn to become the first club with 17 V/AFL flags. After all, as we’ve seen with multiple premiers this decade, curses don’t really mean that much. Melbourne was a perennial struggler until it wasn’t; Brisbane couldn’t win the big one until it could.

We had two losses greater than 14 points for the year with the worst injury list in the afl.

Lord is there to take Hewetts role
Motlop to replace Owies after an injury year which you mentioned, BUT…
Jagga and fit Walsh and Cerra are huge improvements on ball.

Curnow to be able to run again and with a more damaging forward line having either kemp or JSOS back in the side to force defenders to go one on one with our two monsters.

Sometimes, it's just a matter of sorting the wheat from the chaff..

Voss is definitely one of the coaches under the most pressure.

If that Carlton list is as good as everyone keeps saying it is well 9th, 4th and 8th isn’t really acceptable so far.

Carlton would want to make a Grand Final in the next two years or the talent has been wasted.

I'm pretty sure this is the guy that deathrode Geelong harder than anyone on BigFooty all through 2024 and claimed they were incredibly lucky not to go out in straight sets.

Has been crossing all his fingers and toes for Carlton to break through for a while.
