Hatred of Collingwood - What is the rational reason?

Really, you need to stop being so offended that you're not number 1 on the hate list of every supporter. Why should I hate Collingwood any more than most other clubs? I dont know many of their fans, and the 1 I do know isn't a c**t about it. As opposed to the many West coast fans I know....

Hating on Collingwood is a very VFL thing.

I quite like them - they are a worthy opponent. You know defeating them will dissapoint a substantial number of Victorians so its worth the time and effort. Ditto essendrugs and the crows. Major league clubs.

Put it this way, imagine if Kochie said some of the stuff Eddie did. Always whinging despite the dream run they get. They could play 22 Friday night games and he'd find something to complain about. Him having a whinge about having to play Carlton Sunday in 2014 night just shows the entitlement and the fact that no one turned up demonstrates the massive leg up they have been given. When they were at the top was when GWS were being mooted as a club and all he could do was bag them (calling them the land of the falafel), because it was all stop talking about them everyone look at me and how important I am. I also think the board was extraordinarily arrogant with how they handled the Buckley takeover. It looked a lot like they were planning dynasties, before they had actually cashed in on their time at the top. Their supporters are no worse than the rest. These days it is all Eddie. When he goes, I might like them again. He is a more arrogant ungracious person than Tony Abbott.

But making finals 7 out of 8 seasons and only a streak of 4 in a row isn't quite sustained success like 8 seasons in a row like Collingwood and Geelong. Plus it would've helped their cause if they could have won a flag for it to be really successfully.

Prior to equalisation measures like the draft and salary cap the Collingwood Football Club were a perennial powerhouse with a historically large support base. As with all successful clubs they were disliked by many opposition fans for this. When I was growing up through the 70"s and 80"s every Magpie loss in the Grand Final ( there were plenty) was celebrated as a blessed dodging a black and white bullet. For many of us the scary prospect of the Collingwood Army having indisputable bragging rights was an unpalatable misery. There is a generational handing down of anti Collingwood feeling that still exists today but it is fairly lame compared to the old days.

You underestimate the difficulty of winning premierships. Ask 14 other teams. Don't blame you though.

I've never had an issue with Collingwood or their fans. You only have to look at this site to see they are probably more level minded than a few other sides supporters.

The hate probably stems from being successful though.

Can anyone explain to me the logical reason for all the Collingwood hatred? My question harks back to the 2010 season when they won the flag and some people I know said that they wanted anyone but Collingwood to win. I thought (despite being an ardent Bombers fan) that they had been the best team that season and deserved to win the flag. Why the hatred, is it based on any logic or just the fact that they are Collingwood?

Regardless of the bolded... Nick Maxwell made it impossible for me to like Collingwood during those years, especially 2010. Worst captain ever.

The words "bloody joke" referring to tieing a GF will forever ring in the minds of those who disdain the jumper. Grade A example of the reasons to hate the Woods.
