Hatred of Collingwood - What is the rational reason?

As a Carlton supporter I do not hate Collingwood. I respect them as worthy foes.

Collingwood have an amazing history of giving themselves a chance, year after year.

Yes, the strike rate has not been flash hot but the fact they keep presenting all the time over decades and decades deserves some praise.

The other thing about Collingwood teams is the spirit of how the game is played.

You cannot fault most if not all the Collingwood teams over the years in terms of how they have played the game.

This is one area where we (Carlton) are to a certain extent brothers with the Magpies.

The two teams on the evil side of things have been Hawthorn and Essendon.

These are two team cultures where 'whatever it takes' has been the mantra for decades. Both willing to smash the spirit of the game for flags.

Collingwood, of course they are the enemy, begrudging respect though.

Hawthorn and Essendon. Nothing but contempt.
Why I've always said, if I was t Collingwood, I'd be Carlton, no other team is worthy

I don't really get it. Watched The Club as a kid and it was great so guess I felt because they were in the movie they must be an important club. Got to be impressed with a club with such a huge following. Being a Swans supporter I'm only of recent years getting to know what it is like to be a supporter of a hated club and can only imagine that it must get tiresome with all the bogan toothless rubbish fired at Collingwood supporters. I respect a great club like Collingwood even if their president tests my admiration at times.

don't hate Collingwood more a rivalry thing swan is my favorite opposition player enjoy watching pendles and Jamie Elliot. mcchins is annoying but passionate cant stand travis cloke. as for hate easily carlton and Essendon both self entitled cheats

Part of lies in their current attitude.

How many players coming out of contract are straight away linked to Collingwood? Too many to mention. And yet in the case of Freeman, they lose their shit about him leaving!

It's Collingwood's arrogance over generations that has been the main driver.

Take the clash strip nonsense.

Wouldn't say I hate Collingwood. Back to back premierships or something might change the arrangement a bit, but overall I just see them as a neutral team.

Putting your obvious ferals aside, I've even found quite a few supporters to be somewhat guarded and pessismistic about their seasonal prospects, almost as if they feel you're gonna jump down their throat as soon as they mention it.

I definitely don't hate them
There's no logical reason to
Sure , I don't like them quite as much as I used to (because Malthouse is gone , and Buckley is coach ), but that goes for a few other clubs
They are still one of my most liked (or rather , least disliked ) Victorian teams

I don't hate Collingwood by any means but living in the western suburbs there is a perception from their supporters that they are a rarity and our supporters are a dime a dozen. There also seems to be more aggravation from there supporters than anyone else we play. On field I do admire the club but I wouldn't mind if I didn't see them win another flag for a while

People don't understand hatred in regards to football.

Hatred of Collingwood is jovial...

...In South Australia the hatred of Port Adelaide, especially from the late 1980's, has been systematic and toxic, especially from the incompetant SANFL.

So why u mad that we wouldn't particularly hate you?
I'm not mad about that, I'm mad about the irrelevant comment because it's too much of a troll to let slip, especially coming from a Freo supporter. If there's a more irrelevant club in the AFL, it's the Freo Dockers. You've achieved nothing in your entire existence!

Yet this isn't a thread about why anyone hates us.

I simply don't hate Collingwood, and that's mainly because they haven't done an awful lot of winning in my time following the league. You might think it's a troll, but it's true. I'm a lot more likely to despise the better teams.

No confusion, it was always there, just like with Ess, Norf and Geelong and Carlton, along with well I guess Richmond. And that is just to start with.

So Collingwood is not that special really.. no reason other than being an enemy.

The arrogance of the club and supporters is often intolerable. I absolutely HATED Collingwood back in 2009-2012. The Collingwood chant absolutely drove me up the wall.

Collingwood is everywhere in the media and in the AFL's current money seeking system, benefits more than any other club from fixturing/broadcasting arrangements. Then they have their annoying (obviously great for them) president who whinges no end the moment they are even slightly wronged in his eyes.

Nowadays my hatred towards them has mellowed somewhat, and has probably been surpassed by Hawthorn and Essendon, but this should still provide some insight into why I, and I'm sure many others, dislike them.

Did you only jump on board in the last 4 years? Because we were very relevant and did a lot of winning for 8 years straight prior. Which is a lot longer than every other side in the AFL in recent years.

I hate Collingwood because in my personal experience most pies supporters I know constantly bang on about how everyone hates them, they also seem to be the first group of fans to brag about a win to the opposition supporters and rub it in their face. They also refuse to wear a proper clash jumper (yes i know ours looks shit) and that pisses me off.

Other than that I love Eddie McGuire, such a great President of that club and I love his commentary. One of the most unbiased commentators and thought it was a great idea when he went to do the "bias commentary"

And how much of that comes out of Collingwood - vs how much is a beat up by the media or agents.
Bucks, Balme and Hine were always very clear to not specify any particular interests. Even when it was apparent Treloar wanted to come to us, the comment was still - "He's currently a GWS player, and until he tell's them he wants out, we have nothing to say - and at that point we will negotiate".

As for all the other names that get linked to Collingwood - it is mostly pretty laughable. Every club, doing its due diligence, will have a think about every possible player... that doesn't mean they are "linked".
For the most part, I reckon agents love leaking that someone is "linked" to Collingwood coz it's another way to drive up their asking price... it's also easy fodder for the media, coz it's always easy "clicks" just to mention Collingwood in a headline.
