Have Geelong become too powerful?

So even if our old players aren't playing well, they contributed to all our wins even if they're just role players.

But when our young players play well, they're just role players and it doesn't count because reasons.

Gotcha.
Stengle is a small forward. He isn't the one driving the ball forward from the midfield or defence. His role is to kick goals or set them up when the ball goes down there. If Geelong aren't winning contested ball through the middle, his influence is largely diminished. Same goes for Miers who is a distributor, not a ball-winner.

Geelong have three critical dependencies for any prospective success: Cameron, Dangerfield and Stewart. All of them are 30+. If even one of them is injured or underperforming, Geelong almost always lose. It doesn't take a genius to understand how this state of affairs doesn't bode well for a club at all.

Meanwhile with a team like Sydney, we can lose one of our best players in Warner and still produce quality football. We are not critically dependent on a small group of old players.

Sure, Stengle and Miers have been pretty good, but these aren't the types of players who can drive a team to sustained success. They are role-players.

There is a reason you lost five out of six games as soon as Dangerfield got injured. Your club is heavily dependent on a 34 year old to carry the midfield, and it won't hold up in finals.

😂😂😂

Find us one Cats fan who thinks it will.

You don’t even know what you’re debating

Great example there, picking a guy who’s not missed a game all season. Even on Friday when he got injured, ‘your’ team - I think we all know it isn’t - was playing Essendon 😂😂😂

Wow, point well proven

the fact that we have 2 of the best 4 21 and under players in the league in Holmes and Dempsey really burns supporters of lesser teams doesn't it? Humphries not far behind either
Dempsey might've actually had a contender join him in the Rising Star race if Humphries played more games this year.

Dad's army was out scored in the second half by a team competing for the wooden spoon.

Damn, it makes last night's win even more noteworthy, does it not?

The real question is do you bring in Hawkins (which essentially means you lose the final) or throw the champion aside like a piece of garbage. Let’s see how Geelong treats loyalty.

They don't play Hawkins IMO.

They are doing well without him and unfortunately I think he's well and truly finished.

Should have a full cup anyway and let other blokes go for glory.

Geelong should pick their best side heading into the Preliminary Final, if that means not picking Hawkins then so be it. Loyalty only goes so far and is not a black mark on the club for not being loyal (if they don't pick Hawkins). So far the Cats are playing well without Hawkins.

Do they need him for the rest of this Finals series - up to them, we will see.

Poor trolling.

Scott's under no obligation to play a cooked champion out of loyalty. When he plays Dad's Army in finals, it's because they're still better than the next batch in the VFL.

If their body holds up and form improves, they can work their way in, as Stanley has. Hawkins body didn't hold up and his form prior was poor. Neale has taken the opportunity. You're creating a negative when it's positive, and doing so only reveals how bizarrely anti-Geelong your obsession is. Just give credit every now and again.

Not even as a sub? I just remember Jones with the 2021 flag. Tragic.

Immobile key forwards make terrible subs.

Hawkins knew at his age that this was a possibility. He made his way in the AFL through the same happening to the veteran forward he replaced. He said he's very happy to finish up in the VFL and Tom is a genuine guy. He has spent so much time helping Neale that I'm sure he is beaming with pride that he is taking his chance.
