The cancelled season is really going to hurt Geelong's prospects with their aging list.
Nevermind their list, their finances will be absolutely ****ed. Most people have no idea how precarious they are already, which is why they've been harping on about playing more & more games at the Cheat Ground - it actually has very little to do with the on field advantage but simply because they make an extra million every time they play there and upgrading it multiple times has basically sent the club broke.

Coronavirus has come at the absolute worst time possible for the Handbaggers, financially they are in EXTREMELY deep shit far beyond most other clubs.

Yes, imagine wanting to play at a ground that delivers a financial advantage as well as a home ground one

I know I'd rather leave a million bucks on the table to play at my opponent's home ground

Hawthorns list was just very boring and mediocre to watch. Being blessed with elite sides Geelong/Collingwood/St Kilda only seasons earlier made Hawthorn look worse than they actually were. They did win 4 flags from that era

@handbaggers, what’s the future looking like financially?
Extremely poor. Coupled with the likely cancellation of this season nailing their Dad's Army list's window shut.

The other news is they put many of their eggs in the upcoming draft with three 1st round picks, in a year draftees won't play so its a crapshoot. :straining:

Unless the draft age is raised to 19 (should have been done years ago) and is pushed forward a year, then we got 3 first rounders from a more developed crop. Got me salivating just thinking about it.

Relying on SHocking to change the rules to getcha out of the woods? Yeah as a club who alternatively begs the state govt & Frank Costa for handouts I can see why you'd be locked into an entitlement mentality.

@handbaggers, what’s the future looking like financially? Do you think you will get any more government funding?

Its really not that shocking, current 18 yo draft age ***** up a lot of kids education and subsequent career pathways, realistically not many of the crop will be able to make a living outta footy yet the most important year of their life so far for both football and education happen simultaneously. You don't have to be the sharpest tool in the shed to see why that ought to change.

lol, we’d still have more cash on hand than them if they merged with all the other bottom 10 clubs.

The Handbagger board is in meltdown.

A few more are onto "Scotty from marketing" but still a few who just dont get it.

They even turn a blind eye to his 80% losing record in Finals as long as he wins a few Home and Away games.

Its staggering how Scotty is trolling them from within.
Well he is a Hawf supporter

Varcoe chokes

The whole Geelong side chokes

Ah that Ottens one. I was there in that near pocket. We got a lot of the highlight moments down our way. Dew’s one stepper, the Williams/Dew combi, Rioli’s bread and butter and then that. What a pisser.

I'd probably throw a few grand at them to acquire their VFA cups and use them saucers at Waverley Gardens...

If for nothing else, it'll throw newcs off the bell end
They don’t even have cups from that time. Just a few clippings from the Geelong Advertiser and the Colonial Times mag stuck in a scrapbook.
