Spoken like someone who didn't even see the game, just saw the teams in the paper on the Friday, who kicked the goals in the paper on Monday, put two and two together and came up with five.

Spoken like someone who has no idea what he's on about.

I saw the game, Scarlett was beaten by Johnson. Why else was he moved off him in the first place? The point of what I said was that he didn't have a good day and is the reason why Glass is ahead of him after 3 games.

Christ, even one of your own supporters admits it. Scarlett isn't infallable. He had a great game on Fev, but Glass is above him based on this year's performances.

Perhaps you should go out and actually watch more games of football.

Johnson was definitely beating Scarlett - but he did only kick 3 on him. Harley was moved onto him and had another 5 kicked on him. Not defending Scarlett but that's the way it happened. Personally I still think Scarlett is better than Glass or Fletcher. Late last year he murdered Barry Hall - again - so it's not like Fev's the only full forward he can beat.

As for comparing Hawkins to Fevola, well unfortunately there are some nuff-nuffs around. Pretty stupid really. Fev's a superstar, Hawkins looks very good but still has a long way to go.

Despite what you'll read, most Geelong fans are NOT getting carried away. But the kid looks promising.

Fair enough.

I'm just going by what I saw of the match. IMO Glass hasn't been beaten at all, nor broke even and that's why I rate him ahead at this stage. Can't say the same for Scarlett (even though he was at his best last week).

Don't get me wrong, I'm not bagging him, he can settle for 2nd best until Glass puts in a shocker, ok? ;)

Fev will never be a champion hawkins will almost certainly be a champion.

Geelong will never win another premiership Carlton will almost certainly win another premiership.

For all the superstars Geelong have had over recent decades they can NEVER put it together and actually win anything, pre-season cups aside. This is because they are in fact females. Poor kid will join the likes of Ablett, Couch, Bairsttow, Hocking, Stoneham et al as a flag-less champion.

Only saw his first half...what a massive unit and a great mark of the footy.

Bloody father-son....:(

Picked the ball out a pack like he was plucking a flower and handballed it to a running player for a goal.

Didn't see him do much else (no more goals) in the second half but I'm sure others will pull out other examples.

Took a one handed speccie over Jeff white, turned 3 players inside out, ran half the ground then did a reverse check side banana from the 50 meter arc and let it trickle through for a goal.

In the second half?

I find that surprising considering he kicked 4 goals in the first half and finished with 4 for the game. :p

Just like all your so called superstars at StKilda ?
Your piss poor mob are the biggest underachievers in the AFL [yes, worse than Freo].FFS,the AFL has given you enough early draft picks and you still f**k up in the finals.

Looking forward to seeing him play in Launceston next week, it's good to see great young talent coming through no matter who they play for, besides, he hasn't torn us a new one yet and given me reason to dislike him.LOL.

I wouldn't expect it next week to be honest. He's done ok in 2 games but things can change. Add the fact we don't travel well and next week is certainly a tough game. Not just for Hawkins but Geelong overall.

Forget taking it one week at a time, I'm taking it one kick at a time.

Saints fans are known for their venomous bile, but no matter how bad it is, it's always so hypocritical :)

I'm loving the kid. Even bomber had a smirk on his face when he talked about him after the game. I was actually more pleased to see his effect on the team. They just seem more "together" at the moment. Anyway, that's my 2 cents.

Just commenting on the second half, didn't kick any more goals but did anyone notice the two massive run downs at the Melbourne CHB position when he came from behind and got two holding the ball decisions. One was Bruce other might have been McDonald. Great tackles. The kid doesn't just kick goals he puts in a got defensive game too.

Glass is better than him right now. Hasn't been beaten, took Hall and Pav to the cleaners. Scarlett did thump Fev, but he got thrased by Johnson.

Talk about getting ahead of yourself.

Come back when Hawkins kicks 80+ goals and wins a Coleman medal and AA.

You hang your hat on Scarlett beating Fevola, but all that proves is that Fevola had a shocking game where the whole team fell apart and Scarlett's still a gun.

Doesn't have anything to do with future predictions at all
.

Was the comment directed at me? Because I never said that Fevola/Hawkins thing. Must have been someone else.

So it's actually an advantage to be...not the best? If thye think you'll win it in a few eeks, you won't get it?

Not exactly. They don't give it based on one or even 2 games. The best example is McGough. Had a great debut, won the Anzac medal on his 2nd game yet didn't get a nomination for a while. It is almost like there is a cue of players waiting for the nomination.

A super-impressive kid. (Kid? More like monster). But not surprising to anyone who saw him in the under 18s last year. It's funny that after all the players Geelong has traded for to try to fill the hole in its attack the seemingly ideal candidate has fallen into its lap.

FWIW, I thought he was highly impressive as a first-gamer against Carlton, but the actual reaction was a bit over the top because the Cats were so far on top it was a very easy ride. Nathan Ablett was the standout young forward in that game.

Much bigger tests to come, but even though he will have the inevitable quiet games in these first seasons, he looks as good a key forward prospect as we have seen for many years. Good to see exciting young players coming through.

I think what has to be remembered is that Geelong haven't had key forwards able to take marks since Ablett senior retired. We've had to endure such "talents" as Brett Spinks, Jason Mooney, Matthew McCarthy, Kent Kingsley and so on. With Hawkins, Ablett and Mooney it looks like we might - might - have some marking power at long last. Still not getting carried away however.

I do reserve the right though to turn into a drooling idiot if Hawkins kicks a real bag this year. Wait and see.

Hawkins looks like the best KP prospect to come from the draft in a long time. Early days but he could be frighteningly good.
