See the Hawks fall

The Hawks have been playing well above themselves.

Tonight was a good reality check for the Hawks- they are not a contender in 2007.

It was a finals' intensity game tonight and the Hawks were lacking.

Expect tonight to be the start of the Hawks' fall.

Re: See the Hawks fall

I don't think they've been playing above themselves, but playing the Crows and Eagles interstate will find most teams out.

Re: See the Hawks fall

That is the problem when you have young kids, when things don't go your way they can be a bit brittle at times when they get molested by a more experienced side.

I wouldnt write them off after one bad game

Re: See the Hawks fall

lol yea what a terrible game... But you dont get to second position on the ladder without earning your wins. We have beaten every other top 8 side. We have a ways to go but i hardly think it is time for crisis stations

We've been hearing that since the end of round 2, yet have been able to pick ourselves up again and again. BTW how are the mighty "Unlisted" going? You sound like a bitter Magpie fan. I'll check your profile to make sure.

On the game, it was a reality check for us. The wet ball may not be our forte.:(

Update: Checked Bushies profile, he is a fair weather Collingwood supporter. At least most of the other Magpie fans are courageous enough to list their club in their profile.

Re: See the Hawks fall

Playing above themselves, so says the mighty Unlisted :)

vs. Richmond MCG
vs. St Kilda TD
vs. Kangaroos YP
vs. Essendon MCG
vs. Brisbane MCG
vs. Port Adelaide YP

That's a pretty soft 6 week stretch, with winnable games following against Sydney and the Bulldogs mark down 5-6 wins in the run home :thumbsu:

Lucky for us there's not too many 'experienced' teams.
Seriously though, the Crows came out firing and we were totally outclassed. Big test next week to see where we really are!

Well the Hawks have been shown what real footy is all about, they have not really been physically challenged this year and tonight were shown what is needed if they want to be a real threat come September. Tonight they were out muscled, out coached and out classed.

They have been flying along looking like a very good side for the most part so I just wonder is it just as a result of a good young team having one poor night or is it the bursting of their bubble?

Personally I don't think it is, I think they had one of those nights where the Crows were on song and were just too big, strong and experienced for the Hawks in the clinches. There is no shame in losing to the Crows in Adelaide as they are a very good team also and this is in no way taking any credit away from them.

Re: See the Hawks fall

Look, the Hawks will make the finals regardless of what happens in the 2nd half of the season. Look at Port Adelaide, they topped the ladder and couldn't do anything in the finals. Aslong as the young side get some finals experience this year, then it's a good season.

They haven't been playing above themselves, other teams have just been playing badly/injuries.

Re: See the Hawks fall

Fantastic result. :D ;)

Considering the Eagles won quite easily at AAMI last week, I'm shocked the Hawks could be thumped by that much.

Re: See the Hawks fall

Those matches will be tougher than some Hawks supporters think, especially if Jacobs and Changa are added to our injury list. Our depth will be sorely tested if they are not fit to play next week, given that we're already missing Williams, Clarke and Boyle who would be heavily considered to be best 22 players at this stage (Dixon and Vanders coming back next week may offset that to a certain extent).

We may need to blood somebody like Mitchell Thorp, Travis Tuck and/or Beau Muston next week, depending on injuries.

Tigers have been a bit of a bogey side over the last couple of years, so this will be a test to see whether we can bounce back.

The same reason why the Eagles got thumped by the Lions on their home track.

We were caught out against a much more experienced side on a wet track, wasn't totally unexpected. We've still beaten 6/7 top 8 sides thus far....not a bad achievement for the youngest and most inexperienced squad in the competition...

At a dry MCG in September the result could be different...

Re: See the Hawks fall

You disagree? Until this season, the Crows have been fantastic at home, and the Eagles are always hard to beat, especially at Subiaco.

Dixon is a snug fit for Boyle. Jacobs and Batemen will be hard to cover but, fortunately we won't be exposed that much over the next few weeks as opposed to if we were playing Geelong, Adelaide, West Coast etc.

Vandenburg, Boyle and hopefully Williams will be back at the buisness end.

All up and coming teams will suffer through something similar, probably shows that maybe a Grand Final appearance is still a year away, but a top four finish is still something that they should be aiming for.

Well said, I agree the Hawks are a year away and still have some lessons left to learn before a premiership cup arrives for them. But I think they are still heading in a good direction.
