Disagree. We need someone equally capable of providing a good target who can take marks and kick goals. That's why Bud/Rough combo was so good. 2 genuine stars playing alongside 1 another. Bit like Naughton and JUH.
There’s no one way to do it, but the most exciting 1-2 combo imo are your big marking forwards who can outstrength just about anyone and kick pretty accurately from anywhere, and your tall yet super athletic forwards who are great at ground level and have that X factor to turn a game on its head. Buddy / Rough, Cameron / Hawkins a few examples…

Funny thing is when hawks had bud and rough and knew they were good, they still used cubsequent early pick on other talls
Always pick the best available with first rounders although Thorp and Dowler didn’t live up to that description. Our stock of tall defenders was also non existent at the time so assumption is that may have been the motivation.

Our threepeat team with Selwood and peddles might have triggered way more media types against us though

Whilst I do understand the lament towards Kosi's shortcomings, I'd like to know historically how many 23 year old key forwards have been delisted with a record of 51 goals from 44 games within the first 3 seasons from their debut.
Add to that quite a few of those games were down back too

Yep fair post. Some of our mids delivery at times is below par for sure.
Have people here forgotten us pre Lewis’ return from injury?!

I think Lewis is a top shelf KPF. Im not sure who of the stand-alone key forwards of a similar age would be any better. If Mitch Lewis is a problem we have to solve them we are looking at a dynasty team!

I remember him well. He probably was unfortunate to follow the great Huddo
and be overshadowed by Barney. He was still a goal kicking machine.
Yes, but on the other hand he did tuck his tracksuit into his socks so….

Between the 04 and 05 drafts we had 9 picks inside the top 43 picks can you believe.

Franklin Roughead Lewis Murphy Ellis Dowler Birchall Bailey and Muston.

Only bust here is Dowler - great drafting in hindsight. Muston would have been a great player had his knees not blown up.

One of ITKs said we asked the question, but you lot were keen to keep him. Situation might have changed given his game time.
Makes sense getting no game time forwards all re-signing or recent arrivals. At hawks he walks into best 22 especially with Breust and wingard near the end. And don’t forget the key factor, he was a max hawks supporter growing up!

Kosi is still the most interesting piece of our list management puzzle.

He showed vast improvement in the ruck yesterday. Also clunked everything that came his way.

He's now also played in our 3 best wins of the season (St.Kilda, Brisbane and Collingwood) and contributed in each one.

Is he, quite unexpectedly, the ruck/fwd we've been hoping for after all?

Liked his ruckwork yesterday.

I thought with Ryan coming in and doing well, it'd be the death of Kosi, but I think the setup we ran yesterday may be a saving grace for him instead! Ryan FF, Lewis CHF and Kosi as third tall/backup ruck.

Will be interesting to see how that combo goes in the last 3 games.

Also interesting that a few weeks ago all of Maginness, Kosi, Wingard, Morrison, Scrimshaw were candidates to move on in one way or another. Hard to justify getting rid of any of those blokes after that game.

Let’s not get carried away. Fantastic win but let’s make our List premiership capable. I am a little more hard nosed.
