Some people don't have the luxury of enough free time to watch every game mate. There's no need for that reaction to querying some below average stats.
It’s fine not to watch, we all make prioritised choices and that’s not at all what led to my reaction, which on reflection could have been more tempered so happy to apologise for that. But in that spirit, maybe don’t start your post with “some ordinary performances” when you haven’t watched the game. Acknowledging you didn’t see it and asking questions from the outset, I guarantee my reaction would have been totally different. Is that fair?

Yes, along with Meek.
I wouldn’t say that. Stephens is unlucky with injury and they couldn’t have forecast how well our mids would go and that we would have essentially no injuries. He is the sort of player Sam likes I still think he has a shot next year but needs to take it and show he can play a second position competently. Meek is a good backup to Reeves the problem is the position. Very few teams play 2 rucks anymore so it’s not really a bad call having a good player you can call upon like in the St kilda game is vital. You don’t win flags with a team it’s a squad as the saying goes.

Long and Stephens won't make it.

Hope Bennetts, JOS and Butler keep developing. It's frustrating that Butler hasn't really taken a step forward yet, he's got a big year three coming up.
Agree re Long.

I've still got hope for Stephens personally but if he wants to be playing every week I'm not sure that's at Hawthorn.

I wouldn't delist Long or Serong, no way.

This season is the first year in a long time, there has been competition for spots.

Players like Serong, Long, Stephens, Ramsden, Hustwaite, MacDonald, Bramble, Morris, Butler, Greene & Jeka will take your spot.

I don't envisage another mass clean out this season, I think 5-6 delistings/retirements.

Stability is the key.

Recall vividly that pretty much the same comments were made about Ned Reeves in his first few years - particularly years 1-3. Some posters actually suggested that he only got rookied because his old man was the CEO - that one always made me laugh. Yesterday Ned Reeves comprehensively beat one of the top 3 ruckman in the league Tim English. Ned Reeves was taken in the 2108 pre season draft

For the love of god please give a 19 year old kid still full of pimples a few years before we start writing him off

LOL - I was only thinking about that last night whilst watching the Dogs replay!

Wasn't there a poster on here who "guaranteed" that Ned would never play more than 30 games? Are they still around or did they do the right thing and ship off, does anyone know?

Why would anyone be saying Meek was a bad pick up.

Did anyone watch Ned stand the mark and then attempt to chase Tim English? If not have a look again.

The ruck situation at Hawthorn is a massive work in progress.
Did anyone watch English take the kick out and then attempt to run around Ned? If not have a look again.

Really can't believe you are potting Ned when the entire industry is saying WTF Bulldogs!

Not potting him at all as I thought he competed well during the day but have a look at the big fella trying to move. The QE2 has a quicker turning circle than big Noodle.

He has a huge amount of work to do on his endurance and having Meek on our list is a no brainer is the point here.

Fair enough points you raise here.

i reckon Ned was just knackered after running himself into the ground all game. I suspect Sam and the coaching team are quietly chuffed at how much Ned has progressed in the second half of 2023

Re Stephens, we must remember the point of the trade was not to get Stephens, it was to move Mitchell. He was just the steak knives to make the deal look fair. And the Cats would not have felt they lost anything by doing it.

Neds got height, he's got swingman written all over him. most likely he will become a mid sized forward- or a replacement should nash fall over. Assuming ned shows enough before the end of the year

One thing to consider is our amazingly small injury list this year, I really cant recall a year in which we have had so few injuries.

Assuming things revert back to the average then a lot of players like Stephens, Long, etc should get a better crack at it next year.

Cant cut too deep on any assumption that we will have two years in a row of bugger all injuries, that would be pretty risky IMOH.
