Hawks still in premiership race thanks to umpires...

No one can whine about Hawks fans complaining about umpiring after the massive whingefest after this game.

Dodgy decisions each way but it didn't turn the game. Well maybe the questionable 50 against Lewis which gifted Priddis a goal but I'm humble enough to accept it gracefully :)
Umm, dude - he tackled the guy to the ground after a mark

That's been a 50m penatly for 10 years

Laughable comment. If the game was played on an 'even keel' the Eagles would of won in a canter..
The hawks had EVERYTHING going for them tonight.

Um, no.

So Del Piero do you think this is an East Coast conspiracy by any chance?

In a close game the umpires making 3 stupid decisions that result in a potential changed result is poor. Worst umpiring ive seen for a while.
Obviously havent watched many of our games of late then.

I just watched a game of footy where for the first time in ages I was not annoyed with crap umps and then it is spoilt by this thread:(

On a serious note Glass got a bad one, Cox got a bad one.
Nothin else stood out for mine apart from a few 50 50's here and there which u always get. Particularly in the wet.

Any football fan neutral or otherwise who thinks Hawthorn vs West Coast was umpired well needs their head read.

WC copped a raw deal the whole game, and the ludicrous free kick against Cox which led to the Hawks regaining the lead was the final straw. In the same position Geelong probably would have piled on another 3 or 4 goals, but we'd done our dash by that stage unfortunately.

Of course the Hawks have the better team. They're the reigning premiers and we're a developing young side.

You guys had a side that was more then a year older per player on average and about 30 games per player.

I can't believe people are complaining about the hawks getting a somewhat fair run from the umpires! Perhaps this is the problem, if we aren't getting totally screwed over like normal, people think that the umpires are favoring us!

You do realise after tonights game Buddy is averaging a Free per game? If only once a game he is held/Scragged/pushed/chopped/etc I don't know what! Come on!

He was running full pelt just behind the mark and couldn't really stop in the wet.

The Hawks didn't get a "fair" run. Umpires are supposed to be impartial officiators, tonight they were not.

How many times is Kerr held/scragged per game? Judd? Ablett? I'd wager these guys probably deserve 10+ frees per game, but I don't see that occurring. Franklin regularly has his hands all over his opponent and often plays from behind, so I'm hardly surprised he doesn't have a great record with the umps.

That aside, it's an irrelevant point. If the umpires missed free kicks last week that should have gone to Franklin, then gifting him frees this week doesn't somehow make things right. It's not the umpires job to say 'hey I gave Buddy a bad run last week against Port, I reckon I'll give him a few this week against the Eagles'.

umpiring didn't affect the results today

lynch dropping two sitter marks, cox missing two goals and some clumsy work in defence gifting hawthorn some easy goals were the reason we lost

ump go both ways - the constant umpire bashing is monotonous.

last week's call against glass was laughable and worthy of dicsussion due to the shock on everyone's face and the umps description.

btw - if garry moss wasn't BOG today i'll eat my hat

killed kerr when he playing on him, kicked 4 goals and was the reason hawks won imo

Doesn't make it right or wrong, just means that like the players, they are human! (Apart from Goldspink because we all know he was a cheat that hated the hawks ;);)) Umpires don't favor any team. Some times the 50/50s go your way and sometimes they don't. Its part of the rub of the green.

I personally think that if there was a way that every umpiring decision was 100% right it would kill our game! One of the great things about it and about following it is that half the crowd could be calling for holding the ball and the other half for in the back or holding the man! In many ways its a silly argument as there is no realistic way to take the interpretations out of the game!

Boo hoo, what a bunch of whingers you lot are, you were lucky to be as close as you were, good win Hawks.

I didn't see much of the match, but bad kicking is bad footy. 7.10 is bad kicking. 11.8 is good kicking. Hawks know the conditions at Aurora, I daresay that would have helped enormously.

Carry on.

first game hawks get an even run in almost 2 yrs and its considered as the other team being r*ped, how humorous.

Franklin finally got a free, so lets also start a thread sayign how good of a run he (the most penalised player int he AFL) gets.

Hawks played crap, WCE worse.

WCE did not sdeserve to win so build a bridge.

Usually I agree that Hawthorn get a stiff run, but don't be so silly.

Says a lot when you serial complainers are actually happy with the umpiring of a match.

What irritated me was the inconsistency, where what was a free for Hawthorn may not have been a free for WC.

The Cox decision really hurt us and could have been a deciding factor in shifting the momentum.

That said we kicked ourselves out of the game and Hawthorn deserved the win. Neither team played crap as it was tough, ugly wet weather footy.

Congratulations:thumbsu: again, but there is no need for you to be such a douchebag.

It is not the players we had on the ground that will lead our revival. It is the 6-10 playing in the WAFL or injured that will. Many of the players on the field tonight will not be in the team by the time we are up there again.

On topic, the umps were shocking, however it was our kicking that cost us the game. It is not our year, but we will be up and about shortly. A lot sooner than people would have been willing to bet at the start of the year.

To the Hawk supporters that have said the umpiring did not favour them immensely, how do you explain the fact pretty much every neutral that has come in this thread has said we got r*ped??

Every "neutral" on bigfooty is extremely jealous of our success on and off the field over thel ast few years.

After bagging our club non stop for three years when we were down the bottom of the ladder they hate the fact we could give it back to them last year.

The umpiring was not good last night - there were terrible decisions both ways, you and the "neutrals" are ignoring the terrible decision that favoured West Coast and focussing on the ones against you.

Exactly, Franklin in particular, and Hawthorn in general get hosed by inconsistent umpiring every second week and not a word is spoken, but the moment we may have got one or two our way for a change we hear this garbage.

If we've finally got a few to go our way it's not before time.

When West Coast had Judd, I didn't hear them complaining about the aimchair ride they used to get with umpiring.

You're not good enough West Coast, that's why you lost. Get used to it.

Don't worry they just get unhappy becuase the MRP and the umpires can see through their bunch of thugs and 'unsocial' brand of football.

It must be exciting to get away with it sometimes.
