It sounded from the radio that in the end we were just a bit more composed with the ball. Lots of crucial turnovers from the Hawks during some tight moments of the game.

They'll still take plenty out of it. It will be interesting if we meet them again in the finals with a full line-up.

Geelong are a better side than Hawthorn. I thought that before the game and i still think it now. Geelong had players out and while Hawthorn had a few it was nothing in comparison.

However, this group of players have not played on the big stage before. Tonight we did extremely well and got some valuable experience and i'm tipping we'll play even better should we meet in September. Werther that means we will win or not i do not know but for tonight i was extremely pleased that we gave the best team in the AFL a real scare.

Aside from that 2 minute burst in the 3rd what did Franklin do in the 2nd half to turn it from a good battle into a spanking.

Franklin beat Scarlett more often than not but didn't kill him.

At the end of the day the four points meant little, won't make too much difference in the scheme of things. Great game, well done Geelong, shows though that they made lots of mistakes under pressure which they haven't had for a while and it will be a good eye opener for them and unfortunately probably make them stronger. Whilst disappointed about the result I was impressed with the hawks and they will take alot more away from this game than Geelong.

Tonight just proves hawthorn are bloody pretenders, Hodge and Lewis foot skills are a disgrace for guys that are asked to kick it more often than not i thought Croads game was solid and obviously mitchell. i don't think the hawks threw it away. i thought they played well. the cats are just light years ahead of the rest of the comp.

the cats played like sh111t by their standards, with plenty of big injuries and still won.

i reckon the hawks can take a lot of good things out of this game. They are developing well. But the cats are awesome.

p.s. yes, buddy spanked scarlett. he had the better of scarlett in at least 50% of their contests (a hell of a lot for a forward). the only reason buddy didn't embarrass him on the scoreboard is because he's inconsistent.

Well done to the cats... very good win with several top class players out. However one thing that came out of tonight is that Geelongs defence can be beaten Franklin had Scarlett on toast. Poor field kicking and poor set shot stuff cost the Hawks a game that they could have won given Geelongs injuries.

Having said that Cats deserved their win and deserve to be absolute flag favourites.

Hope to see round 2 in September.

Certainly. Hawthorn's pressure was great and led to some uncharacteristic errors, but you can't tell me they were the better team on the night. Not far off it, but still beaten and rightly so.
