Speak to cats supporters directly and see what their view is. They beleive they have been too inconsistent this year to look any further than week 1 of finals against Freo. It's going to be tough for Geelong to even make the grand final let alone win it
Where in my post did I say Cats fans? Of course Cats fans are going to be different to the media. Same with any teams fans (bar Adelaide). That is a stupid thing to say, especially when I never even mentioned it in either of my posts.

Doesn't change the fact that freo are in fantastic form, plus geelong doesn't have a great record against them, if the cats win it will be by less then 3 goals

while i think tonight will be hard, and i am by no means penciling in a SF, freos form has been greatly overstated...

last 9 weeks, 8-1, 5 of those wins against the bottom 5, 2 wins against 5th and 8th, and another win against 12th.

while they have been good, a little perspective is probably necessary.

Probably won't happen. Everyone (except Hawks supporters) want it to, so it probably won't, much like the Derby final everyone was predicting. I have a feeling this finals series is going to be very one dimensional and anti-climactic...

Everyone writes off the top 4 losers this week... they come out next week and have comfortable wins... prelims go as expected... Hawks walk away with flag.

this is quite likely.

To be fair, they did beat a red hot North Melbourne in Melbourne.

Yep, but it will still be very hard to beat the Cats in Melbourne.
Cats by 24.

That is more or less how I see it going.

Will be a tough, physical game where we grab the ascendancy towards the end and take advantage of mismatches in our forward half. I will not be surprised if there are only a couple of kicks in it though. Should wake me up well and truly at 5:30 on a Sat'dy morning.

Generally how it goes, although the WCE are the only team I can remember to lose the first week and still make the GF and win

More stupid is to expect level and unbias commetary from the media. The media get themselves off by fantasing about fairytales, like Geelong meeting Hawthorn in the PF or Geelong to win it again this year.

When Freo have achieved what Geelong has in the past 5 years then maybe you can get your rocks off over reading a similar article Carolyn Wilson has written about the Purple Haze

Cats have to beat both Freo and Adelaide/Swans interstate.
Even if they get through we are refreashed after a week break.
Refreshed maybe, in need of a new pair of undies for certain (should match the guernsey)
If Geelong get anywhere near the preliminary then the 'Choke' is on! The media will have a field day with the game in the lead up to it, the Hawks will be swallowing long and hard all week. The Cats have to get there first and they must be regretting their two poor performances against the inferior Collingwood this year that prevented them qualifying top 4. Geelong is the only side that can stop Hawthorn winning the flag, no other team can beat them in this year's finals, not on last nights performance.

If the Cats make it to the Prelim I'll probably cry. :(

edit: Tears of happiness once we finally get rid of that monkey, smash them and their dynasty and roll on to the Grand final.:thumbsu:

Hawks supporters should be lapping it up. When was the last time Geelong beat them in a final? Hawthorn would be an absolute lock if the cats even make it.

On the other hand if it was a regular season...

You think so?
Geelong have won 9 of their last 11 games against Freo.

That said they will be tough competition tonight. Geelong won't be taking them lightly.

LOL. Have you forgotten about last year?

Pretty much how Melbourne media has treated Freo this entire finals series.. like we don't exist.

There's been plenty of talk about Fremantle and how good they've been in the back half of the season, but you're playing Geelong. A team that won more finals last year than Fremantle have even won in their entire existence FFS. That's why you're not getting any respect.

If anything, people aren't treating Geelong with enough respect. They're good enough to win it all from sixth place. They're a bit older and can't switch it on all season anymore, but they still lift for the big games (see: Hawthorn) and once that calendar flips over to September they start to roll.

I actually think Geelong's toughest challenge will be tonight as Fremantle match-up okay against them. The first quarter will tell everything. If they get past the Dockers they'll just roll straight through the semi and come up on Hawthorn, who will be shitting themselves at that prospect.

They're still the second best team in it.

Geelong have won 9 of their last 11 games against Freo.
And Freo have never beaten Geelong in Victoria.

That said they will be tough competition tonight. Geelong won't be taking them lightly.

They have beaten us in Geelong, 06?

People have short memory's, this game against freo is the one the cats love where they come out hungry and obliterate their opposition whomever that may be. No offense to Freo they have done well to get to the finals but this is going to be ugly. Gonna be windy, running and cold - Cat heaven.
