Review Hawks vs Roos - Do the Autopsy Here

On the 2008 is fluke thing, (WHICH IT WASNT), the hawks were great in 2007 also, finishing 5th or something. Oh yeah and on an earlier post i forgot to mention Gilham, he was pretty solid.

With the facilities, coaching staff and membership base I want to see results. A bit like investing money on the Greek share market...allot is going in with little or no return. We do have the talent, we do have a proud history, we do have willing supporters but the question is do we have the talent in the coaching box and on the training field?

Too many unsure "first-year" players in our squad, I reckon. Just not consistent enough...the contagion sets in...every player starts fumbling...

This season is turning into a pile of sh--

Kayler-Thomson. Shiels and Stratton were in our best.
Ladson, Birchall and Bateman need to wake the feck up. Clarkson is the man that took ONE ruckman into this game. Making the late withdrawal of Renouf worse. Clarkson is out of his depth. If he had ANY honour, he would walk!

You'd beat us, easily.

Seriously add Mitchell, Burgoyne, Taylor, Renouf, Gibson to the team plus some more game time into Sewell. You guys are top 8 material for sure. It's a long season, things can change pretty quick.

I know how frustrating it is to go from the top to the bottom in a season or two but you're in a lot better position than we were/are.

Unfortunately, by the time some of those players get back to peak fitness, the season will be over. And even if we get half of them back, we will probably have lost 6 others to injury.
I don't honestly think we would beat you the way we are playing.
I doubt we would even beat Richmond!!
Maybe losing Hardwick & Viney has a lot to do with it..Strange that since they left we have hardly won a game!!
Maybe if we learnt to kick goals too, might just help us win a game or two. Pathetic goal kicking..How could Roughie miss that shot 20 metres out??? Apparently at training he never misses.. It must be psychological, a mental thing. Get him doing some relaxation exercises or something.
FGS, just do SOMETHING!!!!!!!!!!!
We need goal kickers!!!!!!!!!!!:footy::footy::footy:@#$$%^^&:mad:

How has the St.Kilda forward line gone since getting rid of JB?

JFK, time to make the tough call. We have the cash, pay him out and get Lethal! Someone who understands what this football clubs pride and history stands for. WE ARE NOT PORT ADELAIDE OR CENTRAL DISTRICTS!!!!

Excuses no longer welcome.

We should have won with our team. Talent is there. Play terrible football. Completely play AGAINST our strengths.

When I was at school the seconds could kick set shots goals from 20-30 m out - if we could do that 75% of the time today we would have won.

We continue to fail now at basic skills.

I
On a positive, great game by Hodgey and Buddy. Sewell, Lewis, Stratton and Gilham played pretty good games. JKT had a good one, his long kicking was a highlight when everyone was handballing.

Disagree about Gilham - this week and this season. So important to us but struggling big time.

For a side that picked blokes who could kick we are clearly doing something to them when they get here as they were, again, horrid.

Yeah...... they ARE doing something with them. The seem to be telling them to handball it around until someone gets caught with the ball.

I agree - had many chances in the second half to lock this game up.

Throw all our money at lethal at seasons end if things don't improve. OR, all our money at Hirdy to come coach us! (super unlikely)

Bad luck guys, I couldn't watch any footage today (no bloody streams) I reckon you have more than a good enough line-up to make finals and go far. I don't know what's going on but it's certainly not talent cause you have plenty of it. Long season fellas, plenty of time to turn it around, and I've seen teams come back from a bad start. Good luck for the rest of the season.

We overcomplicate what should be a really simple game

We over possess the ball dinking it around in the hope we blind our opponents with our overuse of the ball which will then see a miracle parting of bass straight so our players can just walk through the middle.

I think we need to look around the other faces in the coaching box as other than Clarkson none of those guys fill me with any confidence.

I hope those players feel as gutted as we do - I mean they just have to hit targets two hours a week - that's all. If I missed doing the things I have to do in my job - I'd be out of a job.

Have to agree with KS. Our coaching 'team' has been well and truly exposed now. I think that it's not so much perceived 'disinterest' in the playing group, as utter confusion with the so called game plan. As an 'oldie', I've been so fortunate to have seen all bar one of our Premierships, but right now this is not a Hawthorn team. The Little General is a shocker of a match day Coach. I've said it before, like many others on this Board...no Viney, no Hardwick...no Hawks, as we knew them. I have lived and breathed this great club for 45 years, and it really hurts to say that I am really worried..not with the talent, which is obvious, but these guys have lost their passion which is very sad. I do have to say that I too think that young Cyril is under duress physically atm.

Having said all of this, with the talent we do have, I want to be able to look forward to 2011/12. Clarkson is an immovable object and if he is to be there in the next couple of years..along with his offsiders, except for R Smith....nothing but the same to "look forward to" I fear.:(

The happy Handball team at Hawthorn!

Seriously heartbroken tonight, drowning my sorrows by way of VB. North is by no means a top 8 side, and showed us up. Lose to the Bombers next week, and then season over, though until then i still have hope. The handball tactics were our downfall tonight, sickened me when they kept handballing to blokes under pressure with 3 opposing players surrounding them. Put ya mates under pressure, yeah good one!

Buddy looked awesome tonight, Stratton was great and i gotta ask why he hasn't been played in the previous games. Not convinced with Shiels yet, Osborne pissed me off constantly and Bateman needs a good kick. Gilham and Birchall were ok IMO, but Changa and Ozzy, maybe even Peterson need a spell.

No more excuses. We should have won tonight, especially once hitting the front!

Think it's time you hit the road moron! Red card would be handy

So you're happy with the effort of senior players, think Clarko is coaching well and think the deeds of 2008 are worth resting on?

I've been a member since 1988, have barracked for Hawthorn since birth in 1976, and am ashamed of the effort of the current list. WE ARE HAWTHORN. WE DONT NOT ACCEPT GOING 2/11. If you do, head down PUNT ROAD.

Leigh Matthews, time to head home!

Congratulations to the Roos. They are a young team and it was a good win for them given it looked like we would pinch it in the last quarter when we hit the lead. As usual Rawlings, Wells and Harvey killed us and of course their big men dominated in the absence of a Hawthorn ruckman.

As for Hawthorn, we are simply not going to beat many sides without a ruckman and with so many players down on form. No ruck is a massive structural disadvantage. On top of that we have too many players playing on reputation who are just not beating their direct oppponents or getting enough of the ball.

My suggestion is to forget 2008 and throw any expectations for 2010 out the window. Recent history means nothing. We need to stop making excuses and thinking that everything will be all right if we get players back on the track. The reality is that AFL is a brutal competition, we are a very different team than 2008, and our rivals have passed us by over the last couple of years.

As much as it is a cliche, we need to get back to taking things one game at a time, picking teams based on merit and on a strategy designed to beat our immediate opponents, facing the reality of our personnel situation, and stop thinking that things will magically click into place if we can just somehow get a charmed run with injuries (which never happens for any team).

No more excuses. No more fear of losing or of not living up to the expectations we set in 2008. All i want from the Hawks each week is a red hot dip.

two of the best power forwards in the comp with rioli at their feat and his game plan is to handball and muck around in the backline until someone gets tackled or to hold the ball up as much as possible and wait for the other team to flood back and triple team buddy. also a top move going in with no ruckman.

needs to get mathews at the club asap and fire the jockey clarkson and that clown barker.
