Impey, just awesome. Moore: effort personified with the finish to go with it, Sicily: dislocates his shoulder and rolls his ankle in the 3rd and yet is still one of the most influential players in the game … downright astonishing, Hardwick: so adaptable, Nash: plays his role to a tee… Meek unlucky. McDonald, Scrimma annd Weds… not far off the votes.

And for mine, the Bont is the most impactful player in the comp… so fair enough.

I know I shouldn’t let this get to me, and we’ll cop it all year, but something that really chaps my ass is the narrative when a team down the ladder wins, it’s never they played well, it’s all about how the losing team has coaching issues/injuries/heavy training load/ loss they needed to have etc. For once, can they just discuss that we played well, beat them at the furnace, arguably could’ve won by more.

He didn't move for about 3 mins as the game went on, so it was a fairly sickening blow. In light of everything -- four consussions in 12 months -- at his age, i wouldn't be surprised one bit if that was his last game.

Geeze the Roar has let fly at Bevo and the dogs:
"To let a Hawthorn team without Mitch Lewis and Luke Breust, with a cooked Jack Gunston and first-gamer Calsher Dear as its talls, have 28 scoring shots from 49 inside 50s is the most disgraceful defensive performance I have seen all year.
"There comes a point where there is simply no alternative but to realise a coach has taken a team as far as he can."
Another week, another Bulldogs horror show. Is it the last straw for Luke Beveridge?

From his performance on the weekend, I'd say Gunner's not quite cooked, definitely not burnt. He may well enjoy some good performances still this year.

Sunday was a little like the best of Sic and the worst of Sic. He showed his grit by weathering the pain and distraction of the separated shoulder and the ankle, going forward and kicking what he kicked.

Unfortunately, he also carried on like Captain Porkchop with the Watson miss. It’s very human. There are stages in a game when we don’t need a human, we need a captain. That was probably one of them. That being said, and judging by his tackle a few moments later, Watson seemed to take it in good spirit.

Captain Porkchop Fawlty I thought. Understood his passion I have to say - and I have replayed it a few times for a laugh - but not the right thing and he knew it!
 
I feel so zen after a win!

Things I loved about the game:

  • The intent from our players from the get go, especially senior players from the beginning. Physically not taking a backward step or being bullied by the opponent for once this season which resulted in the scuffles off the ball during play. Frost, scrim and Sicily - love it , bring it each week please even when we are getting multiple goals kicked on us.
  • Thought the game and our season was beyond repair after Sicily’s shoulder, but to come out after popping it back in and play like he did - a truer captains game you’d be hard to find.
  • It looked as though the players weren’t as restricted in how they were allowed to play this week, seemed we let them play a more natural style of their own and they took the opponent on.
  • Killing the ball inside 50!!! Huge!! Jumping on it, holding it in and not letting it spill out makes a huge difference. Defence was massive on Sunday - best effort yet.
  • Conor McDonald making the most of his opportunities - how different does that make things?
  • Meek - saw him play like this in highlights before we drafted him. Didn’t get that last year and have been vocal about how meek he has played and wouldn’t make it. Has proved me wrong this year. Bullocking ruckman making a big difference to the side. Love it.
  • Calsher! Must admit I was nervous going in with only him as a target. He looks a natural, heck, he looks like the best tall forward on our list. Go son!
  • Gunston - stepped up big time for the team and his protege!
Didn’t love:

  • Was it a record for smothered kicks against us? Must’ve been at least 10 !
  • Some soft efforts when players were expecting contact from behind and missed absolute sitters which were momentum killers.
  • Not going to mention names, but there was a player that cost us numerous goals with limp efforts when the tough stuff was needed. Also, barely impacted the game. I expect he’ll be dropped this week.
Hopefully the boys build on the momentum and belief from this win! And hopefully, we don't find out Sic is unavailable for weeks after playing out the game.🤞🤞🤞 Go Hawks!

I can usually take it with a grain of salt, as they will indicate how well the winning team went, but this week its been almost dismissive on how we lifted.

Easy to come up with excuses for the other team when we don't do it that often, plus there's more clickbait mileage in speculating about what's wrong with an underperforming club than there is in talking about an unexpected win for a lower-placed side.

We take another couple of decent scalps and the narrative will change, just like it did last year.

I do get what you mean, but all things considered:
  • No Lewis or Chol
  • An aging Gunners and a first gamer as our tall targets
  • Day not fully up to speed
  • Undersized defense
  • Sic popped his shoulder and rolled an ankle
Given the makeup of the Dogs team and their level of experience compared to ours, there really is no excuse for losing to us. Yes, we played very well, but I can understand why they're copping it from all angles. They should be contenders, but are bloody average.

Listen, I’m not saying they need to pump our tires, but a little analysis of how we played would be alright
 
How good is Dylan Moore that after having another cracking game , leading from the front, no one bats an eyelid?!!! İt's become the norm. What a month by the heir to the throne.

"Cooked" is such a campaigner of a disrespectful word. A real keyboard warrior term...

He had 6 shots on goal in an AFL game, against an AFL defense.

Yes, he's past 30...as we know, anyone over 30 who has more than 2 poor games in a row has the internet yelling 'cooked'.

It's just poor.
 
Meek huge. Makes a difference when he can get a few games together and the new Ruck rules have helped him

Impey one he'll of a game. Good to see him getting back to the form he had pre injury

Moore is a little jet. He had a slow start to the season but I blame glandular for that and he's hitting his stride. A good leader too

Sic had a captains game. Took 3 hits that other guys would rightfully get subbed for and stayed on and was probably the difference in the end. Tough as nails. Absolutely loved it

Love Ginni. He has a real crack and even when things don't go his way he doesn't complain and just gets on with it

Weddle and Scrim are both steals.

I don't rate Finn most games but the last few weeks he's really earned his spot.

Calsh had a debut to remember and I reckon he gave Gunston a bit of pep in his step too.
