Walsh, Curnow and McKay need to be paid a pretty packet, handy out huge 1.4+ contracts could be deadly.
And Dow.

And McGovern.

I'd think Weitering would be on a bit too.

And if they finish higher than 12th next year, watch them and others stick out their hands.

It'll be Sydney 2.0

The fact that the media are falling over themselves to nominate Carlton gives me comfort. We don't leak. Never have. The media have got no read on what we are doing here.

The only thing that will cost us this deal is low-balling. I trust Wright won't do this on this occasion - albeit we won't match the Carlton dollars.

I'm with Absasi - a bloke of this calibre would've made the decision a while ago. I'm confident that's us.

You'd think the first bloke Stephen texted yesterday when he thought it was an ACL was JOM - who was straight down to the rooms post match.

Cmon JOM, bring this home!
Yep. I said it a while ago but I really think Coniglio had conspired to leave along time ago and floated the idea to us to take a flyer on Patton too. Getting Patton might not mean a lot to most Hawthorn fans but I have always said that it means a fair bit to Coniglio.

Positives if Cognilio chooses Hawks

  • Plays with his best mate
  • Plays under the best coach in modern times
  • Plays for a club with a great culture and rich history
  • Working with Sam Mitchell developing his craft
  • Playing at a club with a proven record of injury management
  • Plays at the MCG on a regular basis

Very easy decision really …..

100% spot on. I'm not calling for a monster offer that's not how sustained success is achieved we know this from the cats, swans, hawks motto.

I would be comfortable with the club paying a lil extra over that, around the 950 k mark if that's what it takes given our current situation. So many retired recent greats and more to come this year. We are not the destination club right now but this could turn us back into that powerhouse again.

If We can get within 300k of a Carlton offer (which is half that after tax), and its not good enough i am happy we gave it our best shot.
i suspect those figures are grossly exaggerated and carlton wont pay over the 1.2 mark.

I agree however I think our highest offer will be smack dab on 1m over 5 years if it comes down to that. That’s likely 100k more than what Mitchell is on now but you’d assume his next deal will be the same if not a little more. These are all things you’d assume that get talked about when Petroro and Coniglio meet up with Wrighty. Things like so what’s Mitchell on and what not and so we’re prepared to offer you this. Now one of the reason we won’t exceed the 1m mark is that we’ll very soon have to give the likes of Sicily a considerable raise as other teams will likely be sniffing around.

It can’t be mentioned enough when discussing Cogs possibly heading to Carlton....they don’t have a coach.

If he jumps at the opportunity to be playing under Brad Scott, Paul Roos or Michael Voss over Al Clarkson he’s not overly bright.

I honestly can not see, under any circumstance that if he chooses a club to go to it's not us. Make no mistake how important it is for best mates to want to play together, it happens in the AFL, happens in the NBA, happens at local level, it happens across the board. If Cogs is leaving, then without doubt his first choice will be us, it will then be up to the club to sort out the commercials which is an area at times we have struggled to compete in (out of list management planning and strategy).

Getting a guy like Cogs, who is without doubt a top 10 mid in the league completely changes our dynamic, in essence we will have 2x top 10 mids starting on the pill with a pretty special complimentary piece riding shot gun, add in Worpel as a potential star and we go from the leagues worst mid to the leagues best.

Has anyone seen this weeks episode of bounce on foxtel?
Smithy is on the show (after Dunstall gave him a baking last week over a dribble kick, but I digress)
Smithy was doing the 'review' of the tiges v gws game. They showed Coniglio doing his knee and he said "so we're not happy about that".

I nearly fell off my couch! Was this a genuine slip of the tongue or just concern for a good player?

I agree totally, if he leaves GWS and its not to us, ill be really surprised. Not based of mail or sources, just gut feel.

You concerned about SOS at all mate?

If I may be a Debbie Downer, there are plenty of reasons he may choose other clubs than us. I love the confidence in this thread, but it’s starting to sound like a bit of an echo chamber.. Carlton have money, a building list, the promise of him leading them out of the wilderness of the last 20 years to adoring fans, he can still chew up his wealth of spare time with Jaegar just down the road.. no one took the Dons seriously last year and out of nowhere they came away with Shiel.
All I’m saying is I think people shouldn’t put all their eggs in the one basket, reading into totally innocuous things is a waste of time as far as I see. I’m sure the club has back up plans all over the place because there is a very realistic chance of him going elsewhere, or nowhere at all.

They don't have a coach mate.

None of the pro's you've listed for Carlton override the fact that the HFC have a 4 time premiership coach in charge who's keen for more.
