Something that has not got enough attention is that we are only paying Wingard $650K per year. That is a huge get.

Massive if true. In an era of fluid player movement, cap space is a valuable commodity. If Wingard can be had long term for a salary that starts with a 6 then that is as good as having a good draft pick.

Has this been verified anywhere?

Only source I can remember is that the Herald Sun were reporting a 4 year $2.5M deal, which would be $625k per season. Mid year reporting had Wingard's manager pushing Port for closer to $1M a season when it was reported that Wingard and Port were struggling to agree on an extension.

So it's a bit up in the air in terms of what the deal will actually look like, salary wise. Salary reports in the media are notoriously inaccurate.

The chaos and insanity of this thread aside, a reminder that Port can't be trying to push a player out (which they are) and then try to play hardball expecting a lottery windfall in exchange. IMO they are looking pretty ordinary at the moment. They failed miserably after being so active in the draft last year and now there does not seem to be a road back for them and Winged with what's transpired. They are under extreme pressure. And the media. The media is showing everything that is wrong with it and why nobody trusts it these days.

So what's the verdict on Scully's ankle, given his value as a player stems almost entirely from his running ability? A year ago it would've been a great get but now seems like a risky proposition, particularly if GWS expect us to pay heavily for him.

For those that can't read the article, here's the meat & potatoes of it...

- We offered pick 15 for Wingard
- Port rejected the offer
- Port counter offered by asking for pick 15, 21 AND Burton
- We said 'yeah nah, not gonna happen'
- However, we spoke to Burton and said 'hey if you want to return to SA, then we can work something out for you, but we'd like you to stay'
- If Burton says he is happy at Hawthorn, then we will take him off the table completely.

We're taking the upmost professional approach to this which is great to see.

Yep. Herald Sun reported last night the offer is 4 years 2.5mil total. roughly $610k per year
That’s a bargain then in the current paying overs environment.
He must have been on pretty average coin with the power to sign up for that.
I rate wingard very highly, but only at his best which we haven’t seen for a season or two.
Change of environment could be just what he needs.

Can confirm Port have flown a team of medics to the US to assess Burton.

I’d love to flog Kane Cornes

You can’t flog a flog that’s always flogging himself. It would boost the flogs floggery levels behind the level of floggery, that the flog would only add to his flog status. So don’t flog the flog
