G'day guys! I'm a new poster here. Just think this Wingard trade is a reflection of how little we rate the draft in general. Still disappointed about Burton though :'(
Ah, you don't think that the Wingard trade is a reflection of how highly we regard Wingard?

Slightly contentious hypothetical: If Hawthorn wasn't as successful as we have been i.e. sans Alistair Clarkson, would we be happy with Graham Wright as our List Manager?

A big part of the reason we have been so successful is identifying key targets and trading for them. If we weren't successful after 14 years I suggest we would have parted ways with both Clarko and Wrighty years ago. But as it stands we're arguably the most successful club of the modern era. We back ourselves in with trades and usually they work out. In 10 years I think we've only done two bad trades - Kennedy and O'Rourke.

So if our list manager hadn't achieved the goals for which he is employed to achieve, would we be happy with our list manager?

:drunk:

Let me get this straight - Collingwood lose the GF because they're a pack of chokers and West Coast's KPPs are vastly superior. So what do they do? Trade for no KPPs whatsoever but hand over 2x 1st rounders for Beams, when their midfield has never been the problem to begin with. o_O

When was the Tim Allen trade and how many years after that did it take us to recover, 15 years from memory.

And he went on the be a star, too :'(

"From what they've been telling me, it's a very welcoming club for the (Indigenous players)," Wingard said.

If that is true... David Koch needs to pull his head out of the sand and sort out the way his club treats indigenous ppl especially, but perhaps all people.

That is the most damning statement I've ever seen. Their club is welcoming... what the hell is Port Adelaide... R,R,R won't say it.
I think you have that wrong. Port have an excellent support system for indigenous players. Clearly that support is something Chad valued in his new club

Now, I don't generally defend the Cats. But the dockers were going hard for Kelly. If he was truely homesick then, a 20km drive from Perth CBD to Fremantle shouldn't be a hassle.
Yes no doubt he would of been back home if he was interested in Freo.

Wow our key position stocks rivaling the worst in the league right now

Clarko loves Chad

Perhaps he still loves Mitchell and Lewis.

If only they were tall. Or you could combine them and they'd gain height and have almost the same name.

But I completely understand where ur coming from. The above while hopeful is a lot 2 ask for.

He didn’t want to go there. It might only be a two horse town but just like those returning to Victoria he should be entitled to pick where he wants to play.

It’s disappointing because the cats know too well what it’s like when a player wants to get home and the afl bent over backwards to accomodate “only geelong” so it’s disappointing cats didn’t reciprocate that when one of their own asked

So, Let’s look st how much more cash we spent this trade period ayy!

Chad - Cyril
Scully- Vickery
Scrimshaw- duryea

In fact, I think we’re in the + side of the balance from when we finished our trades .
Still can’t see where our 1m + offer for Lynch has gone!!!
With at least four retirements next year we are going to have a seriously big trade/fa period in 2019 imo.
But I also wouldn’t mind the Hawks drop a bombshell between now and October 31! Even if you retire during the season, I’m sure no player is officially off the list until that set date, right?
Dreaming? Hoping? Wanting!

Next year will be interesting, Langford and TOB would be on decent cash and with Silk and Roughy probably gone thats alot off the books.

Well that was a fun ride- thank you Hawthorn and Tops, HBD and other info givers. Much appreciated. Hawks living the never complain don’t explain ethos. Port, well.... So rapt to get Wingard, Scrimshaw and Scully. Upset for Burton but someone has to make the tough decisions. Wingard and Scully make us better in 2 of our weaker areas and with Burton we slight weaken a stronger area which should be covered. I hope he has a great career.

Cats wanted a 20, 22 and a future first for Kelly.

Here is his season side by side with Mitchell's 2016 season prior to us picking him up..

I think Geelong were never really interested in moving him on, they were merely interested to see how much value they could extract from him. If what I've been told is true surrounding his family then he will be pretty shattered with the outcome.
