I didn't watch the count last night but am amazed that Jack Scrimshaw didn't win a vote.

Yes, astounding. I think the umpires must've accidentally thought Gunston was a midfielder in one game.

Sicily with only 4 votes as well is a head scratcher.

Feels like this year is when the Brownlow finally "jumped the shark". AFL will really need to give the umps a bit of a talking too regarding their voting criteria for 2025.

The least number of players getting votes since 1986. And THAT's with 9 games a week.

100%. It's as if the umpires weren't interested and just took the easy options rather than think about the game and how it was played.

I find it hilarious for those arguing for the stats to be given to umpires to help their voting. How is that going to help with votes not being given to midfielders?

Cripps getting votes for a 19 disposal game.
Daicos for a 15 disposal game when subbed out.
Horne-Francis for a 13 disposal game last year.

Just a few examples.

They totally phoned it in this year.

They really have diminished the reward, it's basically just a popularity contest around who has the best marketing these days.

It is a midfielders award - You could pick the winner at the start of the year from a pool of 40 odd midfielders. Giving umpires stats isnt goign to make an iota of difference. Or do you believe giving them stats is going to ensure non-midfielders are given a hope of getting any recognition.

There has always been anomolies in voting over the years with missed votes. It is just that the critical mass of votes is now concentrated on so few. That is a bigger issue than soemone getting some votes in a game when they should not have.

Newc now has 53 votes for his career - bloody amazing effort. Compare that at the same number of games/full seasons for many Brownlow winners and he's ahead of them.

Sam Mitchell was a prolific vote getter across his career and ranks highly among all players for the rate at which he polled votes. It still took him over 100 games across 6 seasons to reach the same amount of votes that Jai has earned across 3 and a half seasons.

That said, it's not really a fair comparison given the teammates Sam had competing for votes and the fact that now players who regularly poll do so at a higher rate than those in past eras. But still an incredible feat.

I think the umpires have become lazy, there is no way that 4 will agree to 3-2-1 so they just pick the easy options.
I swear one year C.Judd got all 6 votes.

I think they are too worried about making sure the hyped up "Star" players get the award so guys like Priddis and Wines don't win it.

I remember in I think 2010 where Dane Swan was read hot favourite and didn't win. And Judd got heaps of questionable 3 vote games. Then in 2011 the umpires took care of swan and noticed him more, they didn't want the embarrassment so he won in a worse season.

Umpires no that nobody really goes through and analyses which games they voted poorly in, they just know if X doesn't poll they look bad because X is a star. Like now everyone is shocked that Bont wasn't higher, but i haven't seen anyone bring up specific games he should have polled in that he didn't. Likewise Cripps not many are actually bringing in games that he shouldn't have polled in.

I find it hilarious that umpires don't have mobile phones in their rooms.

It's easier to find games where players shouldn't have gained votes. I present Item A as evidence.

3 votes to who now?
