Hawthorn flogs support drink driving because 'good bloke' Hodgey does it. Ice must be alright too!

Even the Victorian ones only turned up for a half. Or just maybe Hawthorn were just so superior to everyone else
Helps having home ground advantage too I guess... imagine winning 2 flags at another teams home ground who only lost 2 games all year like we had to do, now that's an achievement.

So driving pissed isn't a protocol at Hawthorn. Wow.

And Hodge wasn't just over. The average person's BAC goes down 0.015 an hour so at 0.068 Hodge may have still been over an hour after been pulled up.

Culture really does start at the top.

Wow, just wow Clarko... "you're allowed to have a drink" and then drive are you?

Thanks for confirming that you think missing a training session is worse than drink driving and putting people's lives in danger.

Disgusting culture at Hawthorn.
Well he didn't cost the club 2.5 million dollars plus so there is that.

There already is.

The AFL injunction has been lifted on Duckwood cheating for free kicks.

No wonder the umpire loving campaigner has been an a bender.
Lots of people are saying this about Selwood NTTAWWT, Ive always jokingly suggested it's reflex that makes him drop to his knees whenever a man touches him...

Oh hang on I just re-read your post, you mean 'Bender' as in a big drink dont you.

Clarkos insurance premiums on the MCG coaches box are probably similar to 2.5mil a year

By that standard if you bash, rape or kill someone you wouldn't be suspended at the hawks cause it's a legal problem, not a club protocol one. Culture.

No wonder that coward punching thug Matthews is so revered at Hawthorn.

As opposed to the real life Geelong thug they call "God" who was once let go by Hawthorn because of his criminal behaviour (break and enter, assault) but is still revered by Geelong fans despite hooking up with a starry-eyed girl who was half his age - young enough to be his daughter - taking her under his wing for a weekend of sex and drugs and then lying to her about the bag of heroin in his pocket which led directly to her death.

As if this wasn't bad enough, the Cats then loudly campaigned for his inclusion into the AFL hall of fame as though it never happened.

Geelong fans were at it again recently when an independent panel of experts voted Leigh Matthews as the greatest player of the past 50 years.
They complained bitterly about their scumbag "hero" being voted as the 7th greatest.

After his career was over. Coward punching someone on the footy field and breaking his jaw is just a dog act during the game.

And yes, Ablett was no saint.

Hodgey was a little over the limit and rolled the dice like most. Fined $450 by the police & $5000 by the Hawks.

Selwood nearly 30 clicks over the speed limit with two or three others in the car. Loses license for a month, costs his club a huge sponsorship. Cats do nothing.

Says it all.

After his career was over, Ablett drove around to some guy's house and broke their jaw.

Ablett was an on-field sniper just like Matthews, Brereton, Lockett, Merrett, Rhys-Jones, Williams, Weightman, the Shaw brothers and hundreds of others. Ablett lined up dozen of blokes and flattened them. He knocked out Gary Lyon with a kinghit behind play and then dobbed himself into the tribunal and got 4 weeks. He probably cost Geelong the 1991 flag when he deliberately elbowed Nathan Burke in the head and was suspended for the remainder of the finals series.

The shit which occurs on a football field doesn't even compare to civilian thuggery. Matthews ran around sniping opponents, just as opponents ran around sniping him. Neville Bruns was also a sniper. The squealing coward was reported for punching Michael Tuck in the face in the same game Matthews decked him. Bruns got his just desserts, just like Matthews got his nose broken by Steve Hocking. Eye for an eye… Tooth for a tooth.. That's how footy was played in the 70's and early 80's before the VFL introduced video review of violent incidents.

Ablett was thug on the field and a thug off the field. That's the difference between him and Matthews.

And yes, Ablett was no saint.
…was no saint?!?!?

Drugs, assaults, burglaries, fraud, tax dodging...

The guy is a degenerate scumbag. A rotten apple who happened to be good at footy.

Why bother when Hawthorn set the standard of not suspending someone who drink drives and puts people's lives in danger?

First offence was a fine and the second was a suspension.

Alrighty, confident Geelong will suspend Joel for his second speeding offence then, even though speeding is nowhere near as bad as drink driving
Magnitude comparison is needed. However the magnitude of the penalties Hodge and Duckwood received showed which of the two specific incidents was viewed as worse.

guys, can we please leave the good bloke alone

all he was doing was showing the new hawk captain how its done the hawthorn way
its just that the current hawk captain ventured out the next day

good old bloke was still just going home from a 21st
