Hawthorn - four peat?

Hawthorn won the 2008 flag despite being 0-3 against the top 4. Playing the Hawks at the MCG in a cut throat final rather than a 10k fixture on a Sunday twilight at Spotless is an entirely different proposition. As for Geelong, well that was round 1 so it probably holds some credence but not a great deal. Its pretty difficult when you start preseason 5 weeks after your rival...specifically when that rival builds the game up to be its Grand Final.

Hawthorn ia top 2 for both off/def over the last 12 weeks (10-1) so they must be doing something alright? I guess its unfortunate the Cats and Giants played Hawthorn in the first 6 weeks of the season

Still using the 'we started preseason late/it was Geelong's grand final' excuse?

Its not like those extra 5 weeks of finals football would do anything for the clubs skill level and experience as opposed to riding bicycles in the summer, hey?

I dunno. Geelong have gone 11-5 since that game and have been pretty putrid in parts. 1 and 5 have special semblance for this Geelong team under Chris Scott and Joel Selwood...

If you think a round 1 game provides any indication of how a PF or GF would roll clearly you have bought into the 'mission accomplished' kool aid :drunk:

I guess we'll find out soon enough then we'll know for sure who has the edge in finals football.. Personally winning this year would be a bonus but I'd also like to see the Crows win it after what they had to endure last year or the Doggies because of their drought. But I think that we'd give Geelong or Sydney a spanking when it really matters just think we find that extra gear for those 2.

Still 2 bad losses from 7th although that'll be shapped by Crows v Eagles, Giants v Eagles, Cats v Dogs, Dogs v North, Swans v North and perhaps the Showdown (as well as Hawks v North and Eagles v Hawks)

Win 5 from 5 keep the minor premiership
Win 4 from 5 and probably keep the minor premiership

If we are 2 games clear, if we only drop 1 game, how do we not end up on top?

Don't think Box Hill can make the VFL finals now whereas in recent years they've made grand finals.

I'm wondering if this will make it harder for the Hawks, particularly if they have injuries. Any thoughts?

I think its to be expected. We have 5 or 6 guys who were in Box Hill last year who are now playing in the 1sts.

I dont think it impacts Hawthorn.

Though it is interesting that Hawthorn have won a lot of close games, Box Hill have lost the close games.

Come on man don't you know anything, our round 1 form will come back to haunt us come finals:cry:

Because Bikes :bicyclist:

They are 1 win and 3 losses against the other top four teams. If this top four stays the same I can't see them winning as they will get flogged at the contested ball and won't be able to make it up with their precision passing game.

You guys should just worry about beating the likes of Collingwood, St Kilda and Carlton.

I reckon the Hawks know what needs to be done.

Where in my post did I say anything about finals? You brought up the excuse that the only reason Geelong beat Hawthorn was due to Hawthorn's shortened pre-season and Geelong treating the game as their Grand Final.

Regardless, looking at current season form it is easy to see that if Geelong and Hawthorn meet in a final this year the Cats will smash them.

Funny that you bring up the 1 and 5 'semblance', seeing that Chris Scott has a 9-5 record and Joel Selwood has 13-7 record vs Hawthorn. I guess there is a 1 and a 5 in there.

Are you simple?

Have a look at the ladder.

Ladders don't do it for Geelong people, never have. I guess thats because theyve found themselves under them for most of the clubs 155 years of largely mediocre, certainly vanilla existence
5 wooden spoons to 11. Next

2 premiership ago actually.

Its been 4 years since Geelong actually won a final, another number with great semblance for Geelong 'people'
Again you've got nothing so resort to bae level of trolling. Talk about headf***ed

Unfortunately clubs are substantiated on the back of the ultimate success and no amount of bush pennants can take away from Geelong's vanilla existence (hence handbaggers)

I guess if you retort with the 5 Geelong West VFA pennants Hawthorn will just bring up their 9 Night Series flags and 3 Championship of Australia's...

Simple one actually. Hawthorn is 2 games clear on top of the ladder, without their CHF (who is also their VC) conducting a rebuild on the run, chasing their 5th Grand Final and 4th flag on the spin. Do you remember the challenges faced by Geelong in their hilarious attempts to defend their 2007  , 2009 and 2011 premierships?

Meanwhile Geelong are struggling with the weight of being 2nd favourite for the flag, having not won a final for 4 years although they do have their tails up having dispatched of Adelaide on a suburban dung heap that shouldn't be commissioned for AFL use. Arent you due for another mid game capitulation anyway. My favourite was the way Sydney smacked you down on your home deck 3 weeks ago :)

Are you actually that dumb? You said Geelong has been holding up the ladder and I showed you proof that we haven't, and in fact your club has done more often. Jesus christ, go back to the bae you absoloute flog

Ladder means jack shit, Geelong v top 8, 7-2, Hawthorn v top 8, 5-3. Hawthorn v top 4: 1-3. Geelong v top 4, 2-2. Geelong v Hawthorn 1-0.
If that's what your basing your confidence on I wouldn't get your hopes up.

In that game you kicked 11 straight in the first half time, your accuracy hasn't come close to the since.

Dangerfield had 46, very unlikely he plays that way again.

Since that game Hawthorn have clearly found better form, Geelong not so much. Since round 6 we have had both the second best attack and defense while Geelong are ranked 7th for both

All of this and we were still infront at 3 quarter time and missed 3 easy shots at the start of the last. The scoring shots were even that day.

You have a very poor finals record in recent years and only a week ago half your supporter base had written you off. I wouldn't be that confident.
