Hawthorn played like Collingwood....

A little alike but we put far more tackling pressure on and Geelong did not have a chance to miss 20 odd shots at goal.

Not a bad game to watch though. It never really reached the levels the hype promised but was an entertaining game from a neutral point of view.
I know Geelong fans will have my picture on the dart board seconds after this but I thought Ablett was very ordinary, even soft at times.
Hodge was outstandingly single-minded and the deserved winner.

And....next time some Geelong galoot wants to post the pic of Licca crying and MM consoling him, we have one of a weeping Gablett getting a little hug from Bomber.
Not that I find anything wrong with post game emotions, but he response is there if required.

We'll have to see if the AFL can give us automatic entry to the GF next year then...

Seriously, what difference does it make, when we keep losing to Carlton/Essendon/Fremantle and miss top 4?

Gablett tried his heart out, he got hit like a hundred times and got up and kept going. Hawks clearly targeted him and tried to take him out of the game. He could of won the norm smith if he kicked a miraculous goal and geelong won.

I did not say he did not try.
And we will have to forever disagree about the Norm Smith.
There were plenty of players ahead of him on that score and the right guy won it

I agree hodge deserved it but Ablett was very good aswell and input was hampered by the opposition more then hodge.

Ablett has seemed close to get everything this year but hasn't Brownlow, premiership, norm smith. Poor bloke.

Watching that game from a strange view (at least to me), at the back few rows of the southern stand, gave me a different perspective on the game.

All Hawthorn did differently to other sides was they didnt turn the ball over coming out of their backline, if they were in trouble they just gave Geelong a rushed behind, great tactic clarko.

As for best on ground, Ablett by an absolute mile, if the margin had of been under 3 goals he would have walked it in, yet for some reason because its 10 points more he doesnt win, I dont get it.

Hodge was great, but Ablett showed he is clearly the best player in league footy.

I could name between 5-10 Collingwood players that are shit kicks. I struggle to find one player that is a genuinely shit kick on either Geelong or Hawthorn. Until those players are weeded out of our club we won't get anywhere near those two sides.

Collingwood will beat Hawthorn in the 2009 Grand Final. Bookmark it. This year Collingwood won a final with the youngest team since Brisbane in 2000. What did Brisbane do the following year? Although Collingwood's 6th placing this year was a step back from 4th in 2007, it was a definite step forward in developement. Hawthorn also finished 6th last season, and where did they finish this season?

Well that's settled then.

Let's start engraving the cup!

I agree. Are you disputing my post at all, and if so, which part of it, or do you simply have little to say?

I think you'll find it already has been. When it is presented next season, it will already have Collingwood engraved on it. By the way, I cannot stand negative Collingwood supporters, or negative people for that matter. Are you one?

Hold on people we've just discovered the magic premiership winning formula.

Apparently from now on the team that finished 6th will win the flag the following year. Damn! That means we can't go back to back.

There, was that negative? :D

Geelong is still clearly the best side IMO, and the one we should be aiming to catch.

Great effort by the Hawks though.

no we should be trying to catch hawthorn because over the last two years it is clear we can play against geelong but fail miserably against the hawks. we need to find a way to break down the teams that are good by foot wh8ich are the teams we struggle against. the teams that are quick by hand like the crows, swans and cats we seem to do alright against. our goals should not be on who is the best in the league but where we fall short....
