Wrong. Hawks did what they had to do by the rules of the AFL.
Correct. For reference below, once the HFC had the report outlining serious allegations they were duty bound by the AFL’s protocol to hand over the report to the AFL integrity unit.

I will pin this post, as it seems to be a constant query.

So we managed to get through the 90s salary cap rorting unscathed, and possibly dodged a bullet when Essendon went down with the drugs scandal, so perhaps this is Karma. Still, an absolute disgrace and heads must roll immediately if anyone involved (or complicit) is still at the club. If all is true, then North and Brisbane are looking for a new coach.

I just shared the story about Leigh Matthews being dead serious in telling players not to have sex in December so they wouldn’t ruin finals with a birth of a child. Obviously some coaches and officials have a weird take on what they’re allowed to demand of players.

I’d like to think people that pathological weren’t at our club - but unfortunately humans can be very bloody odd so you never know.
Wasn't it unprotected sex ? Don't think it's actually that bad of a request if You're wanting to have kids . Is it really that bad to hold off on unprotected sex for just around a month of a year ?

I think now it's becoming clear why former players recently were warning North and co of not letting Clarko have too much control. I've personally found his whole "man with morales and integrity" aura to be a crock of sh@t the last few years.

In saying that, don't want to jump to any conclusions just yet and turn it into a kangaroo court. Been plenty of cases this year when people have jumped the gun, for the story to be clearer later on.

Disgraceful.

Not something that I (or anyone else should) want to be associated with supporting.

To those saying now is the time to show your support and demand better (in response to cancelling memberships), I say we can demand better and also show we do not support or condone the way the club has been run.

My immediate reaction/mindset was that the club has given me much joy in my lifetime so deserves loyalty and support in these times, however upon reflection if that joy was built on a foundation like this, why should it?

Frankly, we should want nothing to do with them right now while also demanding change, repercussions and ongoing efforts to improve.

Whilst I will await further information and review, its going to take an overwhelming response from the club to win me over again from here.

Are you genuinely asking if I think it’s okay for somebody’s employer to ask their employee to regulate their sex life?

To remove all doubt - no, it’s not ****ing okay to ask your employee to refrain from any form of consensual sexual activity they’re having with their partner in their private life. It’s genuinely ****ing demented to do that.

AFL is a work place not a religion. I am pretty sure it is highly inappropriate and against any Australian work place laws for employers/management to suggest to any employees when how what where why regarding private personal matters such as sexualial conduct outside of the workplace.

Cliff's notes from Gillon's presser:

  • External, independent panel to be established by the AFL to fully investigate the allegations. Four people to join the panel, and it will be run by an appropriate King's Counsel.
  • AFL has had the report for a week. It's a confidential report and it is unknown who are the complainants, as they have been de-identified. There are no plans to release the report.
  • If I heard him correctly, Gillon mentioned that there were matters raised in the report from the ABC that weren't covered in the report.
  • Been discussed with Linda Burney (the Commonwealth minister for indigenous affairs)
  • Intend to increase the confidence of people to "tell their stories".
  • "Both sides need to be heard and the process will flesh that out". Inappropriate to comment about the positions of Clarkson and Fagan while the process will continue.
  • However, there will be an answer today about whether Clarkson and Fagan should stand down while the investigation is ongoing.
  • Question asked about Newbold and whether he should step down from the Commission while the investigation is ongoing. Newbold is currently overseas, but Goyder will have a discussion with Newbold.

I hope the afl doesn’t strip us of draft picks over this.

We shouldn’t care if we never receive another draft pick again if that’s what is deemed fair.

Shouldn’t even be an afterthought at this stage.

Good summation. Gil also said that he had spoken to clubs/representatives of people named in report and expects them to make some kind of announcement today regarding their future going forward.

To anyone mentioning draft picks - I understand why the thought goes to that. But let's be real. I honestly don't give a **** how we perform on field for the next decade. For a club that was, now formerly, called the 'family club', we have far more important problems to solve about the absolutely rotten culture that seems to have developed at the club and particularly towards our indigenous members. That needs to be solved first and take however long it needs.

The draft picks discussion is plain weird.

It would make sense for anything that was anti-competitive or cheating. But not for disgusting off-field player management tactics. Punishing the club with fines or draft picks is the wrong way to approach this.

Compensating the victims and putting effort into making sure these failures don't happen at Hawthorn or anywhere else is where the effort should go

Given Clarkson Fagan and Burt have been named will those making the accusations be named officially or will that leak out as well

Gillon McLachlan repeatedly said that the report will not be released and the names of the players who have stepped forward have been de-identified. The AFL has identified that protecting the identities of these players is essential to ensure that players can feel comfortable coming forward with these stories and allegations.

"No plans to release the report"

I fully and rightfully expect it to be leaked within a week. Nice try, AFL.
I think if you listen to Gil’s language the accused have to add their side of the story before the picture becomes clear.. The accusations are diabolical. It’s very easy to get heated but we need to understand the other side of the stories and context.. As mentioned maybe the club was more concerned with family and the welfare of a newborn …we don’t know..If the allegations made are accurate and are linked to club success over a family’s welfare then I agree with the complete disgust reaction others have and will for the first time in my life consider my support of the club..
