So current AFL commissioner Andrew Newbold, who was Hawthorn's President from 2012-2016, will be assisting the Independent External Investigation.
Talk about piss poor appearances at best and straight out corrupting the Independent External Investigation at worst.
Par for the course for the AFL

What is the point of proving that one idea is more racist than the other? What is the point in a dick measuring contest over which statement is more racist? It doesn't matter does it? If something is racist it's racist, there doesn't need to be some shitty scale for racists to feel good about themselves for being "less racist"
Thing is, what is the goal you’re trying to accomplish? Want less racism? You need to convince people. Does calling them racist assholes achieve anything?

No. It feels good and sure, I get what you’re saying, it makes me furious, but it doesn’t change anything.

I think it’s more productive to get them to explain their position. Like I said earlier, do they believe Indigenous people have a genetic predisposition to violence?

Do they believe Indians are inherently less intelligent than whites? Etc. Pick apart their flawed reasoning. Not online though, it’s a huge waste of time, effort, and resources.

Even in person can be draining and even go south but a less confrontational approach is obviously gonna achieve more than an angry one.

Eddie Betts' call for a league-wide review is correct both morally and optically.

The AFL needs to rip the horrible band-aid off and get all this sh*t out in the open at the same time. Trying to play whack-a-mole and cover up each individual incident at each club is just going to ensure the controversies keep coming out perpetually each year.

Better to deal with it all at once in order to eventually move on. It is the right and the smart thing to do.

I sincerely hope you’re right. However the cynic in me tells me that the AFL will endeavour to bury this, or resolve it in some way that it doesn’t continue to hurt their brand any more than it already has.
No way the AFL bury this. Racism is the hot button topic of the 2020s .

I'd suspect the motivation to be as followed.

The Hawks draft someone with "problems". They are hanging with a social group ( not necessarily their family ) who accentuate those problems
Hawks try to take it onto themselves to remove them from that social group.

s**t it does seem a bit "stolen generation" when i put it like that, but i can at least see a motivation there.
The more that is said the more I think this closer to the mark. I can't see how or where the abortion comes in, and that is concerning in its own right, but I do get the impression that people thought they were helping these players. All the more reason for the AFL to increase resources for Indigenous players at all clubs.

Can we let justice happen?

not saying clarkson isn't a racist but let's allow the process to happen 4 independent parties to interview everyone involved

Could destroy reputations before anything happens

If they lose their coaching jobs as a consequence then the damage is financial.

That's not how it works.
He would get compensation for reputation loss.

He won't get damages in defamation for losing a contract, that would need a different action.
He would have to sue North for breach of contract.
Whether he wins or loses that case would depend on clauses in the contract between him and North.

Been to 20+ countries, Australia the most racist or at best, second most racist of the lot
We had an election a few months ago where the leaders of the 2 main party were literally arguing who can treat refugees the worst to try and gain clout amongst all the non racist Australians

People don't sue Jo Blo because they usually don't have any money, that makes suing them kind of pointless unless you are doing it solely to clear your name. The average punter has far less scope to actually inflict financial loss on someone famous and you can generally give an opinion about public figures without being sued. Accusing them of something which gets them sacked is different. The people in question aren't random punters, they are past players and their partners.

If the intention was to ruin the career of Clarkson and Fagan then it could be seen as malicious, especially if evidence would materialise that suggested the statements were way off and thus intended to cause harm.

But we are just pissing into the wind at this point. It is just a sad day for football. I guess we will just have to wait and find out what this AFL investigation discovers.

It's actually precedent (ie a rule) in defamation cases that Jo Blo pays less damages...rationale being Jo Blo has less ability to cause reputational loss.
