they could have released the report privately then done the further investigation with clarko and then release the report publicly

instead of publicly release allegations then investigate with clarko
I don’t think the allegations came out of the report , I think the allegations are an ABC investigation , just saying

The old adage If you're going to have a child, make sure you time it so the birth occurs in the offseason, not in the middle of finals.
What happens if you follow all the rules and plan a baby for the off-season and the baby decides to make its entrance into the world 2 months early?

You now have a sick baby in the NICU and it is finals time.

I’m not indigenous and I know many are in the habit of not speaking up for themselves, but he should have quietly informed the pool management that they were acting unlawfully and there could be consequences.
At a point you just get tired of it I imagine. He's said as much in the past.

Should he now.

I've heard him speak in the past about how often it happens and how above all it just wears him down and makes him tired.

He'd probably have to make an official report and stuff, all that takes time and maybe, on that day, he's like "I don't have time for this shit, why must I carry the burden of making change, AGAIN".

If it happens all the time, fighting the fight can be tiring. Maybe he wasn't in the mood for explaining to his kids what was going on, why they had to go to that office and talk to those people for so long. Maybe he just wanted to enjoy a day with his kids.

Sometimes it might just be a bit hard.

On the other hand you know what is easy? For the pool attendant to not be a racist campaigner.

And you know this how? How did Betts know this was the reason? This happened a year ago, how many times has he spoken up on racism in the AFL since then? Not once did he mention "I got kicked out of a pool because of my race?" Really strange how that didn't come up. He's big on calling out anonymous people on twitter, random people out of the crowd at the footy, but has no interest in doing so against this pool?
Cause everytime he speaks up about it he cops spew like this. This is the problem in this country. When are all you numpty's going to understand the problem isn't them, it's those like you and the spew that comes out of your mouths.

90-odd pages of Australia is/isn't a racist country, comparing ourselves to other countries as if that's relevant. How far down the list of nations do you have to be to not be a racist country? Where's the line?

What is evidently clear is that Australia has a problem with addressing racism. That the average knee-jerk response to accusations of racism is fervent offence and not empathy or self-reflection, says a lot. I've been to X other countries, they are racist, not us!" Listen to yourself. And then listen to the people calling it out.

You didn't answer my question. In what way is getting kicked out of a pool evidence of systemic racism?

getting kicked out of a pool because an elderly white couple didn’t think their grandson was safe being around an aboriginal man who is playing with his kids is not systemic racism?

Really? That's your takeaway from watching that piece? Can you not see the deep pain that comes from a lifetime of this shit happening.

i thought 360 was terrific viewing tonight and encourage all to watch their views on the news, My heart goes out to Eddie who has been through so much, and sadly will likely go through a lot more due to the lack of education in this country

When was the last time a high profile sporting figure was 'temporary' stood down during an investigation about their own misconduct, and was exonerated and reinstated ??

Really think it's very unlikely either Fagan or Clarkson will coach, and I think more heads will roll too out of the fallout from the report and investigation
I just hope for the sake of Hawthorn and its supporters that everything is laid on the table and full reparation occurs ...and its not a festering sore that keep on giving those in the media more chances to gleefully dance on a grave...like happened around Adelaides "Camp".

Interpersonal racism.

no it’s systemic. They asked a public pool lifeguard to kick him out, that pool operator is a company.

they didn’t do it themselves

that is a system

I’m just amazed at how credulous people are.
I may turn out to be wrong, but at face value, does it not seem far fetched that two experienced, well-paid, professional senior coaches would approach a young player and demand that he make his partner terminate her pregnancy?
It’s like some of you need these stories to be true to make your lives worthwhile.

Old mate is being a dog with a bone after misinterpreting a post a couple of pages back because he believes racism is pervasive rather than systemic and for some reason feels like fighting that fight at 9:45pm on Bigfooty. I would leave it

So what's the name of the pool? What date did this happen? Where's your witness transcript, since you undeniably know this to be true, you must of been there.

This happened last year. Maybe he was told to leave because he was breaching COVID restrictions. Maybe he was filming his kids on his phone and the pool dosen't allow vidoing. How does he know why he was told to leave was because he was black. The only way he could possibly know this would be because whoever told him to leave said, "I need you to leave, because you're black and it's making people uncomfortable." Seems a pretty openly racist place, a place Betts would probably want shut down quickly. Seems much more likely he was told to leave with no reason given.

The problem is people making statements like this, adding in details they could not possibly actually know, then everyone instantly declaring this impossible situation as fact, as everyone has in this thread.

Was he kicked out of a pool? Probably. Was it because of his race? It certainly could of been. Could it have been for some other reason? Possibly. Is there any way he could possibly know for a fact this was the reason? I don't see how.
He asks why he's being asked to leave
Lifeguard awkwardly tells him he's making the couple uncomfortable

That hard to fathom how he knew?
Eddie doesnt strike me as the guy who'd make it up for attention. Get the feeling he'd prefer to talk about footy.

On a side note, surely Russell Jackson gets a Walkley Award for this. This is what proper journalism is all about - telling hard truths that the world needs to know.

The Walkleys havent required truth in recent times :

Andrew Laming defamation proceedings and independent review

September 16, 2022

The Walkley Foundation Directors have resolved to commission an independent review of the awarding of the 2021 Walkley Award for Television/Video News Reporting to Peter Fegan and Rebeka Powell.

Sadly for you, people are innocent until proven guilty. People arent found to be innocent.

By your logic you are innocent of murder, rape, bank robbery and any other criminal offence without ever having been charged with any of those offences.

Or

It's just a presumption bro.

I think you need to direct those questions to Eddie Betts, not to other posters in this thread.
And yes, I believe Eddie Betts version of the events given I have no reason to doubt them.

I'm stopping here, the rest of your post is pure nonsense and deserves no response.
