There's no way we're losing draft picks for the review, we self reported for starters (nobody else would self report if it meant the club would put itself up for draft pick punishment), being penalised for individual actions also doesn't fit.

This is also and AFL-wide issue not just Hawthorn, however, I can already see the closed shop and this investigation will die a quiet death.

Picks will not be lost in this review

It will be a fine at most, AFL want this under the rug, any performance related penalties will be detrimental to what the AFL want

For this to go away
I agree. That's why I proposed a possible penalty whereby you keep your picks but have to trade them - thus improving your performance. It's a win-win for the AFL.

That wont happen, we wont be bad enough for that to be needed

We wont be finishing last, so the pick thing is null

They aren't tanking in the traditional sense. They will try and win every game, but clearly they have gutted their list to the extent that they won't be competitive for a few years yet. North did a similar thing. It may work, but the AFL will hate it.

The Hawthorn review may provide some convenient options for the AFL to avoid this situation. As an example, rather than penalise Hawthorn draft picks the AFL could let them keep their picks but ban them from the early rounds of the next few drafts. That way they are forced to trade for established players or lose their picks. This would immediately improve Hawthorn's short-term performance and make their games more profitable for the AFL. It would be similar to the conditioned compensation picks North received this year.
Or we could just be better than what most people think and not even go close to needing assistance

Amon covers off O'Meara in output
The club would be backing in the improvement of Ward, Newcombe, Worpel, Maginness would cover Mitchell's output
McEvoy played 8 games hopefully Meek covers for him

Gunston will be the hardest to replace but he only played 16 games which included 5 or 6 quiet ones

I would actually be disappointed if we go backwards this season

Some very healthy optimism here. Who am I to try and crush it.

That's the funniest thing I've read all year.
When you are somewhat successful yes

When you were the salary cap cheating, priority pick asking, coaching sacking basket case, They weren't showing up en masse

But thats football, when successful, crowds show up, when your not, they don't , every club has fickle fans

Good to see the Hawks haven't lost any of their arrogance  I think you'll find our average crowds through highs and low is at least on a par with the Hawks if not better. Your attendance this year was shit !!

So just accept we have the spoon for the next 3 years then?
Just add it to the the three we acquired over the last 3 years. Oh wait.

But seriously we seem to be considered a spoon favourite each year.

Did you post this with a straight face? Because I sure as hell couldn’t read it with one.

There will be no draft pick penalties for the first nations review. That’s just wishful thinking from nuffie opposition supporters.

Your user name is apt. That's certainly how I feel reading that second paragraph.

I'm just trying to think of creative ways to help you guys and the AFL out of your predicaments. No need to thank me. It's a service that I'm happy to provide.

Yeah if that happens then Clarkson and Fagan will be found guilty and removed from their positions.

Highly unlikely this is the way it plays out.
The boys club will protect all their favourites.

I think what hawks have done is ok. Sam Mitchell needs to phrase differently what he says. Something like
"Trading out experienced players might increase volatility of results in beginning of season, but overall we think a younger line up will run out the second half of the season more strongly than a more experienced line up. We hope to improve ladder position from last year in 2023."

I can’t see much of a market for your hot takes.

Not sure Hawthorn is tanking as such but I think they have made a pretty bad decision in regards to their list build. Going too young is an easy trap to fall into and it is a trap that almost never works.

Hawthorn's backline is good, and their forward line is passable but their midfield is dire, so the passable forward line won't see the ball much and the good backline is going to be under constant pressure in a lot of games in 2023.

The midfield has been dire for 3 years. Something had to change
