I wasn't referring to tanking, I was referring to the post above mine which essentially said Hawthorn know how to win premierships so they will keep doing it. Carlton and Essendon both stuck on 16 premierships for a long time now since their traditional know how no longer works in the modern game.

Oh fair, we've completely forgot how to be successful, need to find the drive again no doubt.

Its a bold strategy as it could alienate players who are in their mid to late twenties. You are basically saying you will never play in a successful team.

They will finish 18th next season, no doubt about it. This is North in 2017 when they cut so deep.

Yes if you include players like Nahas and Ray. Only Petrie went on to play AFL football the following season.

Gunston, Mitchell and O’Meara will all play quality football elsewhere in 2023 and beyond.

And this has been proven to be incorrect time and again.
Hawthorn continually play the big clubs AWAY, and get stuck with the smaller clubs at home.

Sure, Richmond and Collingwood normally draw a decent crowd, but every other club struggles as the away fans just don't turn up.

Average is also down because of the tassie games - sure, our own fault there, but is evidence that raw numbers mean nothing without context

Its very very similar, but the players you moved on for peanuts are actually better players.

O'Meara and Mitchell both would have played 22 games next year for the Hawks. North moved on Jamie Macmillan and Shaun Atley.

You'll win less than 6 games combined in the next two years.

Last time we played home mcg games against Brisbane, Sydney, Suns and Dogs(our tassie games this year). Yea drawing 30k+ against those teams is awful.

Bulldogs ~ 40k
Gold Coast ~ 31k
Sydney ~ 36k

I think Hawthorn may have bitten off more than they can chew

North's stubborn mentality backfired badly....

Topped up heavily on old players from 2012-16. Made finals in 2012, 2014-6. 4 finals wins in 2014-5 was solid.

Dropped in 2017 when the squad was old and not a lot of youth coming through.

Finished 9th in 2018 and tried for one more chance for finals in 2019.

North then fell to a heap in 2020
